The Embassy of the Czech Republic extends its sincere condolences to the families and loved ones of the Nigerian Air Force personnel who tragically lost their lives. We share in the grief of the Nigerian people and honour the service of the departed. May they rest in peace.

Yesterday, Nigeria lost brave men and women of our Air Force in the service of our country.

This is a painful moment for our Armed Forces and for the entire nation. Our Air Force personnel put their lives on the line every day to secure Nigeria. Their sacrifice will never be forgotten.

Behind every uniform is a family. A spouse, a child, a parent, a brother or sister who expected their loved one home. Nigeria grieves with them.

I have declared three days of national mourning and directed that our flags be flown at half-mast throughout the country in honour of those we have lost.

The Chief of Air Staff has briefed me, and I have directed the Nigerian Air Force to immediately commence a thorough investigation into the cause of the crash to prevent future occurrences.

I also commend the Nigerian Air Force for activating an immediate search and rescue operation following the accident.

We honour their service. We remember their sacrifice.

May the souls of our departed heroes rest in peace.

🇨🇿🤝🇳🇬 From Abuja to Prague: Strengthening Czech-Bauchi Cooperation

Earlier this year, we had the pleasure of welcoming H.E. Dr. Aishatu Bala Mohammed, First Lady of Bauchi State, at the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Abuja. We discussed opportunities for closer cooperation in education and development, building on the long-standing partnership between Bauchi State and the Czech Republic.

Now, we were delighted to welcome H.E. Dr. Aishatu Bala Mohammed to Prague! 🇨🇿✨

During her visit, the First Lady met representatives of the Czech University of Life Sciences Prague (CZU) and Nigerian graduates of the Faculty of Tropical AgriSciences from Bauchi State. 🎓🌱

The discussions focused on education, food security, climate-smart agriculture and sustainable development, as well as opportunities to further empower women and young people.

One particularly exciting topic was the possible renewal of scholarship opportunities for students from Bauchi State. The First Lady also had the chance to meet some of the Nigerian graduates who studied at CZU and are now putting their Czech education and experience to work in Nigeria. 👩🏾‍🌾🎓🇳🇬

The visit also builds on the EU-funded Twinning Project on improving food security and food systems in Nigeria, in which CZU is playing an active role together with its Nigerian and European partners. 🇪🇺🇨🇿🇳🇬

And the cooperation will continue! 🤝 Following the visit, the First Lady requested a follow-up video conference with the CZU team to prepare for their upcoming activities in Nigeria. She also formally invited the Twinning team to visit Bauchi State, where she will host them and introduce them to the state’s agricultural and development activities.

From scholarships and university cooperation to climate-smart agriculture and food security — it is encouraging to see how different strands of Czech-Nigerian cooperation are coming together and creating new opportunities. 🌱📚

We look forward to continuing this journey from Abuja to Prague and back to Bauchi! 🇨🇿🇳🇬

🇨🇿🇳🇬 On 23 September, Czech Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs H.E. Petr Macinka met with Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, on the margins of the 81st United Nations 🇺🇳 General Assembly in New York. 🤝

The meeting focused on expanding bilateral cooperation between Czech Republic 🇨🇿 and Nigeria 🇳🇬. We are delighted to see our partnership flourishing and look forward to many more successful joint projects! 🚀

🇨🇿🇳🇬 25 years after 9/11: reflecting on the future of counterterrorism, peacebuilding and research

The Embassy of the Czech Republic in Abuja was pleased to take part in a workshop marking 25 years since the 9/11 terrorist attacks, bringing together academics, policy experts, practitioners and public institutions to discuss evolving security challenges in Nigeria, West Africa and beyond.

🎙️ Chargé d’Affaires a.i. Marie Nwanyanwu highlighted education as a cornerstone of Czech-Nigerian cooperation – from vocational and primary education to university partnerships and academic exchange.

🎓 First Secretary Ondřej Neuschl, in charge of Political, Cultural and Media Affairs, contributed with a lecture addressing the workshop’s theme and the evolving security environment.

🇨🇿🌍 The strong academic dimension of Czech engagement was represented by Assoc. Prof. Jan Záhořík, a leading Czech Africanist and a pioneer of academic cooperation and research engagement in Nigeria. He chaired both panels discussing terrorism and security challenges, counterterrorism, technology, policy research and peacebuilding.

The workshop was organised by the Knights Institute for Policy and Social Research, with the support of Czech company BTL Medical Care.

🤝 Education, research and knowledge exchange continue to be important bridges between Czechia and Nigeria.

🇨🇿🤝🇳🇬 Nigeria and the Czech Republic strengthen their defence partnership! 🛡️⚙️

From 19–23 September 2026, H.E. Honourable Minister Bello Mohammed Matawalle, Minister of State for Defence of Nigeria, visited the Czech Republic with a high-level delegation focused on defence industry, technology transfer and local manufacturing.

📍 At the Dny NATO v Ostravě / NATO Days in Ostrava, H.E. Honourable Minister Matawalle held the meeting with H.E. Jaromír Zůna, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence of the Czech Republic, to discuss closer defence-industrial cooperation. He also met H.E. Andrej Babiš, Prime Minister of the Czech Republic.

🏭 The programme gave participants an opportunity to learn more about 🇨🇿 defence and security technologies, engage with industry representatives and exchange views on future cooperation.

🤝 The Minister was accompanied by H.E. Chimezie Ogu, Chargé d’Affaires of Nigeria in the Czech Republic.

🚀 The participation of representatives of NASENI and PITTC underlined Nigeria’s interest in strengthening domestic production and innovation through partnerships with Czech industry.
