WITHOUT BUHARI, NIGERIA WOULD HAVE BEEN A BETTER COUNTRY, ONUESOKE REPLIES SEGUN ONI
correct or wrong?
A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Delta State, Chief Sunny Onuesoke, says Nigeria would have been a better country without President Muhammadu Buhari. Onuesoke spoke to journalists at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, in reaction to the statement credited to a former governor of Ekiti State and now Deputy National Chairman (South) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Engr. Segun Oni, that without Buhari Nigerians would have been refugees by now.

He said it is unfortunate that people like Oni would continue to make excuses to justify the failure of the APC administration instead of rolling up their sleeves and getting down to doing the serious job of growing the economy. The PDP chieftain said: “When a lie is repeated over and over, it begins to sound like the truth. In the darkest period of military regime, did the Nigerian people become refugees? This is just a poor way to keep on with the excuse of failure and ineptitude. Segun Oni should realize that Nigerians are not only refugees under this present administration, they are also suffering from kwashiokor and mental affliction induced by the poor mismanagement of the economy by the APC-led administration.

Segun Oni should realize that Nigerians are not only refugees under this present administration, they are also suffering from kwashiokor and mental affliction induced by the poor mismanagement of the economy by the APC-led administration. Move around all the nooks and crannies of the country, from North to South, East to West and you will admit that things cannot be worse than what Nigerians are experiencing under this administration.” Onuesoke argued that since the coming of the APC administration, inflation rate had tripled, adding that the price of a bag of rice has increased from N6000 to N20,000, dollar exchange rate increased from N168 to N500, a bag of beans from N6,000 to N15,000; PMS, that was N86, now N145 and diesel 135 then now sells N220. He stated that there is no hope that the inflation will stop.

BUDGET PADDING: ONUESOKE CALLS FOR IMMEDIATE ARREST OF JIBRIN

Chief Sunny Onuesoke, former governorship aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Delta State, has called for the immediate arrest of Hon. Abdulmumin Jibrin over his role in the budget padding saga currently rocking the House of Representatives.

Onuesoke who made the call in an interview also said that the suspension of Jibrin by the House of Representatives Wednesday was in order, saying there was nothing like padding of budget in the Nigeria Constitution.

Onuesoke said, “When I say we don’t have anything like padding in the budget, it’s a very simple thing. It is the duty of the executive to bring their proposal to the National Assembly, and it’s the function and constitutional right of the National Assembly to remove, add, input, include, make corrections of what the president brought to the house.

“If as a legislator you noticed that nothing in your constituency was inputted in the budget, don’t you have the right to protest. If you give 50 per cent priority to the north, what stops you from giving same 50 percent to the southern region by virtue of the federal character?

“What Yakubu Dogara did was that he scrutinised the budget and found out that the area he came from, much attention was not given to it in the budget and of course he added to it, what is wrong in doing that?

“It is the principle of the legislature all over the globe to screen, delete and add to the budget. That is not padding. With this ongoing padding issue, I am very convinced that many Nigerians are yet to know the tenets of democratic politics; they are very ignorant of the legislative business. There is nothing like budget padding in the legislative arm, they only screen, remove and add.”

Onuesoke also said, “If a legislative arm receives budget proposal and passed it without screening, removing and adding, it will be called a rubber stamp house. What Yakubu Dogara did was very okay, it is the duty of Abdulmumin Jibrin to alert his colleagues of all wrongs before passage of the budget. Assuming he raised alarm and told Mr. Speaker that the projects he added were much, and advised him to spread them, it could have been better, not after the passage of the budget and he started crying wolf of budget padding.

“I am disappointed in Jibrin, I wonder the kind of school he attended. I think Jibrin is crying over spilled milk, I believe he is jealous of Mr. Speaker, if not, he could have made his observations as chairman of appropriation committee before the passage of the budget. If at all that the security agents should investigate issues surrounding the budget then, it must be Jibrin. In line with this I call for the immediate arrest and prosecution of Jibrin.”

ONUESOKE URGES NIGERIANS, DELTANS TO EMULATE GUANAH FARMS

Chief Sunny Onuesoke, chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party in Delta state has called on Deltans to emulate Hon. Raymos Guanah, Director of Guannah Farms Limited to cushion the effect of the economic recession that is currently bedeviling the country as a result of the APC misrule.
Onuesoke who made this known in Patani, Delta state, said emulating Guanah Farms Limited will help Nigerians especially Deltans to have a shift in our monoculture economy by diversifying from over reliance on crude oil especially at this time that the price plummet, which is seriously affecting the economy negatively.
He said, “Agriculture will provide food and raw materials for the Nigeria teaming population and the development of the manufacturing sector, which in turn will also discourage heavy dependence on importation. The sector is also capable of reducing the country's level of unemployment on the account that the sector is labour intensive”.
According to him, “now that the APC has nothing to offer Nigerians, emulating Hon. Guanah, a notable farmer in Delta state will curb the effect of rural-urban migration which will help to decongest the urban areas and make life easier for people both in the rural or urban area”.
“Agriculture can help the government to make more effort in developing the degrading infrastructural facilities throughout the nation in attempt to ease movement of goods from one location to the other, likewise for preservation of Agricultural output. Agriculture sector will also help in improving other sectors and thereby curbing the level of the existing corruption in the country”, Onuesoke said.
Onuesoke pointed out that the relatively diverse variety of climatic conditions in Nigeria makes it possible to raise a wide range of crops like beans, cashew nuts, cassava, cocoa beans, groundnut, gum Arabic, kolanuts, maize, melon, millet, oil palm, plantain, banana, rice, rubber, sorghum, soyabeans, pineapples, cherry, citrus and yams across the country, saying that the climate varies from the desert like and savannah climate in the north and central regions to the thick rain forests of the southern region.

AGBARHA-OTOR PDP PASSES VOTE OF CONFIDENCE ON OKOWA

The Peoples Democratic Party, Agbarha-Otor Ward, Ughelli North Local Government Area has passed a vote of confidence on Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta state over his good governance which they said has brought about visible developmental projects in all nooks and crannies of the state, particularly in Ughelli north.
The vote of confidence which was passed weekend, during the swearing in ceremony of new ward executives at Agbarha-Otor town hall had leaders of the party from all walks of life in attendance.

Speaking at the swearing in ceremony, Chief Sunny Onuesoke, Special Project Director, Governor’s Office, Asaba thanked party faithfuls for their support for the party and urged them to remain steadfast as better days are ahead for the party in the future.

Onuesoke called on party faithfuls and leaders to remain united and ensure that men of impeccable character and integrity are elected into various offices as the party gears up for their forthcoming elections in 2019.

Onuesoke, who is also a former governorship aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party during the 2007 elections in Delta state tasked party elders to ensure unity in the party by wading into any perceived grievances in the interest of the Agbarha-Otor ward and Ughelli North Local Government Area in general.

He further urged elected and appointed party members to use their positions to promote peace and unity in the local government and to better the lives of the people.

Onuesoke stated that Governor Ifeanyi Okowa deserves the confidence vote because he has shown to Deltans that he is a detribalized leader who wants development in all parts of the state.

DELTA APC CRISES: RESPECT COURT ORDER, ONUESOKE TELLS EMERHOR

Chief Sunny Onuesoke, chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, has told Olorogun O’tega Emerhor’s led All Progressives Congress to obey the court order that ousted Prophet Jones Erhue led executive of the APC in Delta state if they are really the ‘change’ ambassadors they claimed to be.
Onuesoke who made this known at Agbarha-Otor during the weekend said, “I am not in position to comment on issues of a drowning party like the APC but since their activities threatens the present peace in Delta state, I will advise Olorogun O’tega Emerhor to call his men to order for the sake of peace”.
It could be recalled that last week some members of the All Progressive Congress, APC, in Delta State where arrested by the Police, following a violent clash by supporters of the two factions of the party in the state.

The party in the state had been engulfed in leadership crisis with a faction loyal to Olorogun O’Tega Emerhor and the other loyal to a Second Republic senator, Spanner Okpozo.

Onuesoke in reaction stated that he sees nothing wrong with what Second Republic senator, Spanner Okpozo did by inaugurating a caretaker committee under the aegis of Elders and Leaders of APC to oversee the affairs of their party in the state because according to him, the state High Court had sacked the Prophet Jones Erue-led executive that was elected at a congress held in the premises of a church in 2014, following a suit filed by Chief Adolor Okotie-Eboh.
Onuesoke appealed to the O’tega Emerhor led faction of the APC in Delta state to respect the court order that sacked the Prophet Jones Erhue led executives so that the present peace that is been enjoyed by Deltans which was made possible by Governor Okowa will not be jeopardized by crises of the drowning APC.
He added that it’s not healthy for the state capital to be engulfed with APC crises which led to thugs armed with dangerous weapons including guns invading the city and allegedly molested members of the public during exchange of gun-fire between thugs suspected to be loyal to both factions.

DELTA STATE AT 25: MY WATCH AS DELTA STATE GOVERNOR ; A REFLECTION *By James Onanefe Ibori*
Let me begin by paying tribute to my predecessors in office who piloted the affairs of the state before the Peoples Democracy Party (PDP)administration was inaugurated on May 29, 1999.
From Air Commodore Luke Chijiuba Ochulor (rtd) who was the pioneer Administrator on creation in 1991 to the first elected Governor, Olorogun Felix Ibru, after the demise of the civilian administration, Abdulkadir Shehu, Bassey Asuquo, Ibrahim Kefas, John Dungs and to Walter Feghabo who supervised the conduct of the election in 1999, and eventually handed over to me as Governor.
I want to say without fear of contradiction that Delta in its 25 years of existence has been a success story. It is indisputable that the state has overcome some very challenging times.
The Warri crisis was my administration’s first challenge. At the inauguration of the PDP administration on May 1999, Warri and its environs were boiling. There was a full-blown attack on Escravos on May 30, which spilled over to the surrounding villages and eventually reached the Warri metropolis.
The level of destruction was such that it shocked the entire country and dampened the joy of the transition to democracy.
Its genesis can be traced to 1997 when the Federal Government of the late Gen Sani Abacha created a number of Local Government Areas including Warri South-West LGA, with headquarters in Ogbe-Ijoh, – an Ijaw town between Aladja and Warri Metropolis.
With the relocation of the headquarters of this LGA, from Ogbe-Ijohto Ogidigben, an Itsekiri town, on the Atlantic coast, riots followed and hundreds of people died. Six Shell Nigeria (SPDC) installations were taken over by protesting Ijaw youths, leading to a drop in oil production.
As head of the PDP administration at the time, I knew I had to act swiftly to stem the destruction of life and property. I then summoned a meeting of the major ethnic groups in Warri at the Government House, Asaba.
I recall vividly that the meeting stalemated, as the leaders disagreed on almost every issue. I then directed that the leaders of the delegations be taken to a room in one of the VIP Guest Houses and left there until they reached an agreement.
One of the leaders said to me, “Governor, we will not speak to each other even if we stay there for days”. In response, I then said that was exactly my objective.
On reflection today, our modest efforts have been blessed with some level of peace and understanding. As if the ethnic discord was not enough, Asaba’s position as the state capital threw up a different challenge of its own.
During my campaign to be Governor of the state, it was clear to me that some leaders from the Delta South and Central Senatorial Districts were deeply unhappy with Asaba as the capital. Conversely, leaders from Delta North Senatorial District were very emphatic on the status of Asaba as state capital, and they impressed on me to respect it if I became Governor. I assured them that I would always sleep in Asaba as long as duty did not take me out of the capital. This was my way of committing to the status of Asaba as capital.
Now, I look back with pride. Asaba is a capital city that everyone can be proud of. The PDP administration also set out to avoid the mistake of other states where only the capital was developed.
So we made sure that Delta did not become a one city state. Apart from Asaba and Warri, we identified another tier of development to include Agbor, Ughelli, Sapele, Oleh, Oghara, Abraka, Ogwashi-Uku, Burutu and Ozoro.
My prayer is for this dream to endure. Deltans will benefit from a multiplicity of urban centres with well-developed infrastructures. On the political level, I agonized over how to banish the feeling of second class citizenship of some sections of the state.
Many, who felt left out in the political arrangement, especially, the Ijaws of Warri, were brought into government at the local and state levels.
We held tenaciously to the PDP mantra of equity and justice. And this gave birth to the principle of power rotation.
The result is that for the first time in Nigeria’s history, a minority ethnic group, the Itsekiri, produced the governor of the state.
Most of all, I am pleased to note that today, all three Senatorial Zones have produced the governor of the state.
In 2007 the baton of leadership went to Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, an Itsekiri from Delta South Senatorial District and from him to Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, an Owa man from Delta North.
I thank God for their lives and their commitment to Delta State. And to all those who will come after them, I wish fair weather, smooth sailing, but most of all, I wish them inspired leadership as they pilot this most strategic state in Nigeria to greater heights.
The fourth issue that engaged our attention was true federalism and Resource Control. I embraced it for obvious reasons. We won some battles; more will surely come for the journey has just begun. Some of us are paying the price today for our perceived audacity.
Some other comrades in the course of the struggle have made the supreme sacrifice. May we never forget them. On a personal note, my greatest regret is that I’m not there with you to savour this special moment.
However, I must put on record on this historic day, my gratitude to the people of Delta State for the opportunity given me to serve as Governor from 1999 t0 2007.
And it is to the people that I have reserved my last and greatest tribute. I also say to them that the journey has not been without its challenges, but we have made much progress.
Congratulations on this your well-deserved celebration. I wish you and our dear state peace, unity, and prosperity in the years ahead.

CULTURAL DISPLAY AS DELTA KICKS OFF 25TH ANNIVERSARY
AS ONUESOKE AND OTHER EMINENT DELTANS SPEAK ON DELTA @ 25
THE silver jubilee celebration of the creation of Delta State, Thursday kicked off with cultural display by all the ethnic groups in the state. The ethnic groups which took their turns to perform, thrilled Governor Ifeanyi Okowa who was clad in white native attire matched with red cap, his deputy , Mr Kingsley Otuaro, Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Chief Monday Igbuya, other top government functionaries and guests with their dance steps, drums and traditional songs. The cultural display at the Cenotaph was heralded by street performance with Okowa leading Delta North, his Deputy, Barrister Kingsley Otuaro leading Delta South and Chief Monday Igbuya leading the dancers from Delta Central. Speaking during the ceremony, Okowa said that the events for the anniversary which climaxed yesterday with economic and investment summit, were wholly sponsored by the private sector. Okowa said; “At 25 years, there is reason to celebrate Delta State, one thing that I know is that Delta is a land of peace, a land where love flows; though, tongue may differ, we are united and with what I have seen this afternoon, I am convinced that I am leading a set of people with strong will to succeed, we are on a progressive path.
Some prominent Deltans who spoke to Vanguard on the 25th anniversary of the state, held that the creation of the state with its capital in Asaba was not a mistake but the hand of God at work. They said the fusing of Anioma into Delta State was the greatest thing that ever happened to the State and it’s citizenry Those who spoke were Senator Emmanuel Aguariavwodo, Comrade Ovuozorie Macauley, Olorogun John Oguma, Olorogun Taleb Tebite, Chief Denis Omovie, Chief Sheriff Oborevbori, Mr Sunny Onuesoke, Mr Patrick Ukah, Mr. Newworld Safugha, Chief Henry Sakpra, Chief Chika Ossai, Mr Steve Ovedje, Chief Smith Asohro and HRM Obi Nkechukwu Osadume 1.
On his part, Mr Sunny Onosoke said; “It is marvelous; everybody is seeing what is happening in Delta State at 25. Delta at 25 is something you have to understand that the great men behind the scene have done it before. Olorogun Felix Ibru was the first, he laid the master plan, Chief James Ibori and Dr Emmanul Uduaghan came and consolidated it. So most of the things you see today are legacies of these past Governors which Governor Ifeanyi Okowa is a part of.

THE GREATEST GOLF PLAYER OF OUR TIME WAS NAMED TIGER WOOD.

Imagine somebody naming his child after animal and fire wood. There is a time I saw in a hotel in Benin City where a dog was called sunny---- which is my name. Did I have to challenge why the owner of a dog named his dog after me. What is wrong that somebody named his dog as Buhari and not after Buhari. Get it very clear, named his dog buhari, but not after buhari. is high time we face issues than sentiment.....Onuesoke

IS THERE PDP PUBLICITY SECRETARY IN DELTA?

by Fejiro Olivier

Elections has come and gone, but the gainers are yet to be known in Delta State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Since he assumed the office of Delta PDP Chairman, the opposition party has been having a field day, lampooning the ruling party and the state government. But the blame of not speaking out cannot entirely be on him. For heaven’s sake, who is the party’s publicity secretary who should be in charge of mending the battered image of the party and also project its programme? If I may ask, what is he doing to reposition the party which Delta All Progressives Congress, APC, media men have made mince meat on both online and mainstream media? I owe no one apology for not knowing his name. Since his or her emergence as the mouthpiece of the party, not one single press statement or rebuttal from the opposition party in the state that I know of has come from him. A good publicity secretary ought to have capitalised on the state APC crisis that followed the appointment of the Niger Delta Development Commission NDDC Executive Director (Projects) to attack the opposition. The only voice of the party in the state unarguably is that of Delta State PDP 2007 governorship aspirant, Chief Sunny Onuesoke, who has taken it upon himself not only to project Governor Ifeanyi Okowa’s image and programmes, but also defended the party from internal and external attacks. Because of Onuesoke defensive antics of PDP, a Delta APC online media guru once described him as ‘self acclaimed’ Delta PDP publicity secretary. You see what I mean, the man who is not recorgnise within his party is already being crowned by a member of the opposition party. I am still wondering why Okowa and Delta PDP leaders did not deem it fit to draft him into the race to contest for the position of publicity secretary. There is no week he doesn’t defend PDP and its policies both in the social and mainstream media. Is the PDP Executive just sitting down comfortable while Onuesoke performs their functions daily? Is the party just collecting money, while Onuesoke invites journalists to his Warri office to tell them of government and party programs? No. The party leaders think over the contribution of this man to the development of the party both at the state and national level. Even during the 2015 general election, Onuesoke erected PDP bill boards in all the nooks and crannies of the state projecting the image of the party and soliciting for votes for the party candidates both at the national and state level at his personal cost. Sacrifice for a party could not be more than that. For all we know within and outside the state, the mouth organ of the party is Onuesoke. While other publicity secretaries are defending the party in their various states, the one in Delta is yet to find his or her feet, while Onuesoke performs his function. People may think I have been influenced by Onuesoke. But my conscience is very clear. I am speaking out of what I have personally observed from him. If the party knows what is good for them and if they want to excel in the coming elections, they should as a matter of urgency co-opt Onuesoke into the PDP media team either at the state or national level. The Onuesoke I know is media friendly and has good relationship with journalists. The party needs an established public relations person because 2019 is around the corner and the time to carry out image laundering and propaganda is now. A word is enough for the wise.

DELTA APC, COLONY OF FAILED POLITICIANS – ONUESOKE

ASABA—A former Delta State governorship aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Mr Sunny Onuesoke, yesterday, described the state chapter of the All Progressive Congress, APC, as a colony of failed politicians. Onuesoke who was reacting to recent media report credited to one Chief John Orido of the APC, said that the APC does not have the capacity to unseat the PDP in the state in 2019. He said: “The APC in Delta State is made up of politicians, who have failed several elections in the past. It is a known fact in the state that the author of the story is a drowning politician that failed several elections he contested. “So if such a statement is coming from such a politician, it’s laughable. The APC in Delta State is made up of politicians who failed several elections in the state. A proper perusal of their leaders will prove to my position that the APC in Delta State is made up of failed and rejected politicians. “There is no way failed and rejected politicians will take over Delta State come 2019. It was lack of their tactical political ideology and outright rejection by the electorate that led to their failure at several elections in the state. “They are yet to learn from us, the PDP, they are still neophytes when it comes to issues of politics in Delta State. It will be very difficult for the APC to win election in Delta and Nigeria come 2019 because they have failed Nigerians with their unguided economic policies which have crumbled Nigeria’s economy. “Despite the economic challenges, our amiable governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa is still souring high in the area of infrastructure, employment, education, health and many others in Delta State, which has added credence to the PDP chances of retaining power in the state come 2019.”
