The NBMA staff led by the Director Planning Research and Statistics Mrs Bello Scholastica and the Director Biosecurity Dr Agha Ukpai Agha visited the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) and the National Biotechnology Research and Development Agency(NBRDA) labs, on a tour, aimed at strengthening biosafety and biosecurity capacity.

NBMA, in collaboration with AUDA-NEPAD, successfully concluded a two-day stakeholders’ training and review workshop on the Draft Guidelines for Hybrid Seeds Derived from Biotech-based Hybrid Seed Systems (BbHSS).

The engagement provided a platform for experts and stakeholders to strengthen regulatory understanding, promote biosafety compliance, and advance responsible innovation in agricultural biotechnology in Nigeria.

Today, final year Biotechnology students from Nile University visited the National Biosafety Management Agency (NBMA) to gain practical insight into the Agency’s mandate and regulatory activities.
During the visit, various departments gave presentations on the workings of the Agency, while the Director of Planning, Research and Statistics encouraged the students to strive for excellence and greater achievements in their careers.
The students were also taken on a tour of the laboratory to observe some of the equipment used in NBMA’s regulatory operations.

Today, the DG/CEO of NBMA Dr Fatima Suleiman Zuntu held a strategic meeting with the Head of the AUDA-NEPAD African Biosafety Network of Expertise (ABNE) Programme Samuel Timpo, to discuss strengthening partnership and advancing Nigeria’s biosafety system in line with global standards and emerging innovations in modern biotechnology.

The discussions focused on regulatory preparedness, capacity strengthening, institutional collaboration, and new partnership opportunities that will support safe, science-based, and responsible deployment of biotechnology in Nigeria and across Africa.

NBMA remains committed to building a credible, transparent, and globally aligned biosafety regulatory system that protects public health, the environment, and national interest while supporting innovation and sustainable development.
