Yobe State must rise above identity politics and embrace leadership based on merit. This is how we build institutions, not just loyalties.

I Refuse to Be Defined by Ethnicity in My Politics

I need to say this clearly and from the heart, my politics has nothing to do with ethnicity or tribal lines. I refuse to reduce my beliefs, my values, and my vision for society to what language I speak.

To me, that way of thinking is retrogressive. It keeps us stuck in cycles of division, suspicion, and missed opportunities. It belongs to a past we should have outgrown a past where identity mattered more than ideas, and loyalty mattered more than progress.

I believe in leadership with purpose, policies with direction, and a future built on competence, integrity, and vision. Anything less is a distraction. Anything less holds us back.

We cannot keep choosing sides based on tribe and expect a different outcome. Real change demands that we rise above that.

My stance is simple, I stand for progress, not division. For vision, not sentiment. For a future that includes everyone, not one that fragments us.

That’s the politics I choose

The Illegality and Dictatorial Nature of the So-Called Yobe Consensus

Our great party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Headquarters, in its wisdom and fairness, commenced the sale of Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms for the 2027 general election on Saturday, April 25, 2026, and is scheduled to close on Monday, May 4, 2026.

However, a group of self-imposed “dictators” announced their so-called consensus candidate on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, In doing so, they have effectively looked the people of Yobe State in the face and declared that even if one purchases the Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms for the governorship position after April 29th, 2026 or on the official closing date of Monday, May 4, 2026, as stipulated by the APC timetable and in accordance with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended), the Electoral Act 2026, and INEC’s revised timetable and schedule of activities for the 2027 general election, the decision of the so-called “Emperor” has already excluded such aspirants from the contest.

This so-called Yobe consensus has rendered the APC timetable and guidelines for the 2027 governorship contest in Yobe effectively of no effect for any aspirant who has purchased or intends to purchase the governorship forms before the official closing date of Monday, May 4, 2026. This is clearly an attack on democracy, fairness, and justice, and a slap on the faces of the masses of Yobe State.

The procedures and guidelines of our great party regarding consensus are clear:

i) Only aspirants duly screened and cleared by the Party’s Screening Committees shall participate in the consensus process.

ii) The process must be voluntary and conducted in good faith to ensure inclusiveness and fairness.

iii) Each cleared aspirant must execute a written consent indicating:
(a) Voluntary withdrawal from the race; and
(b) Unconditional support for the agreed consensus candidate.

The so-called Yobe consensus is, therefore, a clear violation of the APC’s guidelines and constitution, as well as the Electoral Act and the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The reported anointment of the SSG by the former governor of Yobe State represents a clear assault on democratic principles. It is deeply troubling and highly irregular for a single individual, acting in isolation, to influence the leadership of millions without due process or respect for the will of the people.

Such actions are unacceptable and undemocratic. They contradict the core values of fairness, representation, and collective decision making. Yobe State belongs to its people not to any individual or select group and its leadership must reflect the genuine voice and choice of its citizens.

We strongly reject any form of imposition, injustice, or oppression. We call on all relevant stakeholders to uphold democratic norms and ensure that governance remains transparent, inclusive, and accountable.

As citizens, i remain committed to lawful and peaceful means of expressing our concerns. I will continue to stand firm in defense of our rights and work collectively to safeguard the integrity of our democracy. No amount of intimidation, segregation, division, or exclusion will be accepted.

We reject these negative tendencies in the interest of unity, justice, and the progress of our dear state.

Long live Yobe State.

Senator Ibrahim Mohammed Bomai.

We Stand for the Common man of Yobe State

Our dear supporters and the good people of Yobe State,

It is important at this moment to address the issue of the APC gubernatorial ticket for 2027.

Our commitment to leadership and the unity of our people remains unwavering. However, any pursuit that does not serve the greater good of humanity ultimately serves only personal interest and not the collective future we all share.

Today, I speak not from a place of privilege, but from a place of responsibility. As I serve in my second term as Senator of Federal Republic of Nigeria, I have the opportunity to return to the Senate for a third term, a path that has, in many ways, been laid before me on a platter of gold.

But my vision goes beyond personal ambition.

My heart is with all the people of Yobe State, our youth, our women, the masses, and even generations yet unborn. It is their future that must guide the decisions we make today. It is time to sacrifice our today for their tomorrow.

History and prosperity will favor us if we choose courage over convenience, if we prioritize the will of the masses over personal desires, and if we embrace a new direction that reflects the true voice of the people.

For nearly three decades, we have followed the same path. It is only fair to ask: why not try something different?

Let us, for once, truly listen to the people from Zone A to Zone B, and from Zone B to Zone C. Let their voices be heard during our primaries. Let their will determine who emerges as our flag bearer. This aligns with the spirit of the amended Electoral Act of 2026, which places greater trust in the people.

After careful reflection, I, Senator Ibrahim Mohammed Bomai, have decided to contest in the 2027 gubernatorial primaries under our great party, the APC.

This decision is not about me.

It is not about position or power.

It is about the people of Yobe State.

It is about development, progress, and building a future we can all be proud of.

It is about aligning with the aspirations of the masses who are calling for a new direction, a new mindset, and a new beginning.

Together, let us build a Yobe that works for everyone.

I am deeply touched by the passing of Alhaji Samaila Babale the Turaki of Tikau.

The death of the Turakin Tikau a seasoned administrator, an elder and a highly ranked traditional title holder in the Tikau Emirate is indeed a big loss to His Royal Highness, the Mai of Tikau, Alh. Abubakar Ibn Grema Talba Shuwa, ofthe Tikau Emirate and the entire Yobe State.

RE: POSITION ON RECENT MEETING OF APC YOBE GUBERNATORIAL ASPIRANTS

I wish to place on record and categorically state that our recent meeting in Abuja, held as aspirants to the position of Governor under our great Party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Yobe State, was convened solely to reaffirm our collective position on the need for fairness, equity, and a level playing field in the conduct of the Party’s primaries.

The meeting was aimed at ensuring strict compliance with due process, in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and as enshrined in the Electoral Act, 2026.

It has come to my attention that rumours and insinuations are being circulated suggesting that the purpose of the meeting was to abandon the APC and join another political party, particularly the ADC. I wish to unequivocally state that such claims are entirely false, baseless, and without any foundation.

I remain a committed, loyal, and steadfast member of the APC, fully dedicated to its ideals, principles, and objectives.

Since joining the APC in 2019, at a time when the Party was in opposition in Yobe South and elective positions were largely dominated by the PDP, we have, through hard work, commitment to internal democracy, and effective representation of our constituents, strengthened the Party’s acceptance and electoral success.

This collective effort resulted in the APC winning almost all elective positions in the 2019 general elections. In the 2023 elections, we further consolidated our gains, losing only one House of Representatives seat narrowly to the PDP while securing victory in all other contests.

While reaffirming my unwavering commitment to the APC, I respectfully call for strict adherence to due process in the conduct of the forthcoming Party primaries. Every aspirant should be given a fair and equal opportunity to contest, without imposition of candidates.

In the event that a consensus option is considered, such a process must be transparent, inclusive, and involve all aspirants and relevant stakeholders, in order to preserve unity and safeguard the Party’s electoral prospects in the forthcoming general elections.

Finally, I reiterate my absolute loyalty and dedication to the APC, and my readiness to abide by its principles, guided by fairness, justice, and strict adherence to the Constitution and the Electoral Act in all Party affairs.

Hon. Lawan Kolo, a gubernatorial aspirant for Yobe State, together with Kashim Musa Tumsah (KMT), met with me at my residence to deliberate on fostering unity and collaboration towards ensuring a smooth and credible electoral process in Yobe State.

Yobe State’s political landscape has historically been shaped by party dominance, entrenched structures, and elite consensus. As the next election cycle approaches, it is important to recognize the evolving dynamics that will influence outcomes.

The forthcoming elections will largely depend on effective coalition-building, the emergence of credible and competent candidates, and the promotion of fairness, equity, and inclusive governance narratives.

At the conclusion of the meeting held at the residence of Senator Ibrahim Mohammed Bomai, a mutual understanding was reached among stakeholders regarding the way forward, particularly on the need for unity, strategic collaboration, and a coordinated political approach.
