At the sitting presided over by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, PhD, GCON, the House adopted a motion on the need to clear blocked waterways and sewage systems within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). Concerned about the environmental and public health risks posed by blocked drainage infrastructure, Members urged the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) to implement a comprehensive sewage evacuation and drainage maintenance plan, while engaging relevant experts to develop sustainable solutions to recurring sewage and drainage challenges across the Territory.

In another resolution, the House addressed the persistent rejection of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members by government offices across the country. Members expressed concern that many corps members are denied opportunities to gain valuable work experience and contribute meaningfully during their service year. The House therefore urged Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), including the National Assembly, to desist from rejecting corps members and instead integrate them into productive work schedules and the economic value chain.

The House also adopted a motion seeking the restoration of the Orolu State Constituency in Osun State, urging the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to comply with the judgment of the Federal High Court and restore the constituency in accordance with Sections 91 and 112 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended).

As a Matter of Urgent Public Importance, the House adopted a motion sponsored by Rep. Dalyop Chollom Fom on the devastating rainstorm disaster that struck Tom-Gangare in Sopp Ward of Barkin Ladi/Riyom Federal Constituency of Plateau State. Concerned about the plight of affected residents, particularly women, children, the elderly, and other vulnerable groups, Members urged the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to immediately deploy relief materials, including temporary shelter, food, clothing, and medical supplies, while mandating the Committee on Emergency and Disaster Preparedness to ensure compliance.

In the course of legislative proceedings, the House passed a Bill to establish the Federal University of Technology, Babura, Jigawa State, aimed at expanding access to specialised university education and advancing technological development.

The House also advanced four Bills at Second Reading, including measures relating to the Federal College of Education, Bende; the establishment of Federal Medical Centres in Item, Bende, Abia State, and Iyamho, Edo State; as well as an amendment to the South-South Development Commission Act to provide additional funding for the Commission. The Bills were subsequently referred to the relevant Committees for further legislative consideration.

Members further introduced fifteen new Bills for First Reading, expanding the legislative agenda of the Green Chamber.

The House also recorded changes in party affiliation among Members. Five lawmakers announced new partisan alignments, with four Members defecting from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the Allied People's Movement (APM). The Social Democratic Party (SDP) also gained a seat following the defection of Rep. Jeremiah Umaru (Nasarawa State) from the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Through these resolutions, legislative actions, and parliamentary developments, the House reaffirmed its commitment to responsive representation, humanitarian intervention, youth empowerment, environmental sustainability, electoral justice, and legislation aimed at addressing pressing national needs and improving the lives of Nigerians.

The House also called for urgent humanitarian intervention following renewed violence between the Karinjo and Wurkun communities in Karim Lamido Local Government Area of Taraba State, which resulted in loss of lives, displacement of residents, and destruction of property. Members urged the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to provide immediate relief materials, while the North East Development Commission (NEDC) and the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI) provide shelter and rehabilitation support to affected persons.

The House of Representatives on Wednesday continued its legislative business at plenary presided over by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, PhD, GCON, with deliberations focused on national security, humanitarian intervention, educational development, agricultural industrialisation, citizens' petitions, and developments within the Chamber.

Members adopted two Matters of Urgent Public Importance arising from renewed communal violence between the Karinjo and Wurkun communities in Karim Lamido Local Government Area of Taraba State, as well as the reported attack on worshippers during an open-air crusade in Eda Oniyo, Ilejemeje Local Government Area of Ekiti State.

The House called on relevant security agencies to intensify efforts to rescue abducted victims, bring perpetrators to justice, strengthen intelligence gathering, and enhance security presence in vulnerable communities. It also urged the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), the North East Development Commission (NEDC), and the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI) to provide urgent relief, shelter, and rehabilitation support to affected communities in Taraba State.

In furtherance of economic development, the House adopted a motion seeking the establishment of an Agricultural Processing and Manufacturing Industrial Hub in Farakwai-Zangon Aya, Kaduna State, and urged the relevant ministries to conduct a feasibility study within ninety days and make provision for the project in the 2027 Budget. The proposed hub is expected to support agricultural value addition through rice milling, tomato processing, maize flour, soyabean, millet, and livestock feed production.

The House also rescinded its earlier decisions on the Federal University of Technology, Kaduna (Establishment) Bill, 2026 and the Federal University of Technology, Yaba (Establishment) Bill, 2026, recommitting both to the Committee of the Whole for reconsideration and passage, where they were subsequently considered alongside reports relating to educational development.

As part of its oversight and accountability functions, the House received two petitions from aggrieved citizens and considered reports from the Committee on Public Petitions and the Committee on University Education.

Earlier in plenary, the House recorded further shifts in its partisan composition as the Majority Caucus lost three Members to opposition parties. Rep. Abubakar Zango (Adamawa State) and Rep. Abdullahi El-Rasheed (Gombe State) defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), while Rep. Rabilu Bala (Bauchi State) moved from the APC to the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP). The development also marked the PRP's entry into the 10th Assembly, bringing the number of political parties represented in the House to eleven.

At Tuesday’s sitting, presided over by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, PhD, GCON, the House considered issues spanning public health, national security, educational development, and citizens’ petitions, while also advancing its oversight responsibilities.

On security matters, the House called for urgent intervention by the Federal Government and security agencies to secure the safe return of victims of the Oriire School kidnapping and to prevent future attacks on schools. The House also expressed concern over incidents of school-related kidnappings and insecurity affecting educational institutions across the country.

Similarly, the House urged security agencies to take swift and decisive action to secure the release of the 42 abducted M***a Ward school children in Askira-Uba Local Government Area and other persons currently held in captivity. Members emphasised the need to strengthen security architecture around schools and ensure the protection of students and educators nationwide.

In response to growing concerns over disease outbreaks and epidemic preparedness, the House called on the Federal Government to provide increased funding for the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) to strengthen the nation’s capacity to prevent, detect, and respond to Ebola and other epidemic-prone diseases. The resolution followed a motion underscoring the need for sustained investment in public health infrastructure and emergency response systems.

As part of its legislative business, the House passed for second reading a Bill seeking to establish the School of Hospitality, Uzairue, Edo State, alongside one other bill. Chief among the defectors was the House Minority Leader, Rep. Kingsley Chinda (Rivers), whose resignation as a Principal Officer followed his defection from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Among the other developments, the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) recorded gains as seven members joined the party from the PDP, while the PDP gained three seats. The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) and the Labour Party (LP) also gained one new seat each.

The House will continue to advance legislation, strengthen oversight of government institutions, and address issues of national importance in pursuit of security, development, and improved welfare for all Nigerians.
