One Elder Yusuf Solomon Danbaki an aspirant for the Chikun constituency bye election has written to the Governor of Kaduna State expressing his concern on the need to Factor Chikun local government adequately in the 2024 budget. the letter reads in detail as follows.⁣

I hope this letter finds you in good health and the best of moods. Let me start by acknowledging your commitment to open government partnership in calling for a town hall meeting to discuss the 2024 draft budget, as well as accept my inability to be there to make this passionate request in person, which necessitates this open letter. I am writing to you as a concerned stakeholder of Chikun local government, Kaduna State, to bring to your attention the dire situation of neglect that the constituency is currently facing.⁣
⁣
Chikun Constituency, despite its potential for economic growth and development, has been left behind when it comes to infrastructure and government presence. The 2024 budget allocations, as mentioned in the draft budget, clearly indicate a lack of adequate funding for Chikun's dilapidated condition, especially in terms of road construction and completion of abandoned road projects.⁣
⁣
We understand that the current administration is focusing on rural infrastructure and agricultural initiatives. While we appreciate the importance of rural development, we believe that neglecting the urban part of Chikun in the 2024 budget will cost us another year of economic setbacks. Chikun, being one of the four Kaduna Capital Territory Authorities, has been systematically sidelined in the urban renewal development of the previous administration, despite its urban status.⁣
⁣
One of the most pressing issues that Chikun faces is the presence of uncompleted and unattended road projects. These roads are crucial for opening up the constituency for economic investment and growth. Unfortunately, the absence of a representative in the Kaduna State House of Assembly has further exacerbated the situation, leaving Chikun without a voice to advocate for the completion of these projects in the 2024 budget.⁣

Your Excellency, we implore you to recognize the economic potential of Chikun Constituency and ensure equitable development across the four local government areas that make up the Kaduna Capital Territory. We request your urgent intervention in addressing the fate of the abandoned road projects and advocating for new ones that will connect Chikun to other urban areas and foster economic growth.⁣
⁣
By engaging with your people-centred administration and voicing our concerns, we believe that you can ensure our needs are addressed. We kindly request your support in prioritizing the development of Chikun Constituency, thereby bridging the gap between Chikun and other urban areas in Kaduna State.⁣
⁣
We understand that you have numerous responsibilities and challenges to address. However, we believe that by giving attention to Chikun's development, you will not only uplift the constituency but also contribute to the overall growth and prosperity of Kaduna State.⁣

Your Excellency, we humbly request a meeting with you and other relevant authorities to discuss the specific needs and challenges of Chikun Constituency. Christmas is a time of rejoicing and merriment as the whole world celebrates the birth of Christ the Saviour of Humanity according to the Christian faith.⁣

To the family of Cyril Eze, Ogbodu Orlu village and the whole St Michael's parish Agbamere, this Christmas is a mystery as they mourn the demise of their son, brother and would have been Decean 𝐑𝐞𝐯. 𝐌𝐫. 𝐇𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐓𝐨𝐛𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐮𝐤𝐰𝐮 𝐄𝐳𝐞 who died on the 15th December 2023 on a car accident. Aged 29.⁣

His ordination was scheduled to be on Saturday 23rd Dec. 2023 at St Theresa's Cathedral Nsukka by the Most Rev. Godfrey Igwebuike Onah the Catholic Bishop of Nsukka diocese.⁣
⁣
𝘓𝘢𝘵𝘦 𝘙𝘦𝘷. 𝘛𝘰𝘣𝘦𝘤𝘩𝘶𝘬𝘸𝘶 𝘌𝘻𝘦 was approaching his ordination with high spirits, oblivious of what the outcome would be but confident in the journey being assured of the presence of his Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ in charge.⁣
⁣
Families, friends and well-wishers were preparing enthusiastically for his ordination this coming Saturday. Little did they know that they would be attending his burial a day before.⁣
⁣
Life is truly a mystery and sometimes, it looks unfair.⁣
⁣

While we await the unveiling of the face of a concerned citizen among the Nigerian past presidents between 1960-2022, let us take a look at the review of the performance of some selected leaders at that time.⁣

These leaders spent a minimum of two (2) years in office.

1. 𝐌𝐮𝐡𝐚𝐦𝐦𝐚𝐝𝐮 𝐁𝐮𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐢 (𝟏𝟗𝟖𝟑-𝟏𝟗𝟖𝟓, 𝟐𝟎𝟏𝟓-𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟑):⁣
⁣
- 𝐏𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲: Buhari was seen as a disciplined and strict leader.⁣
⁣
- 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐭𝐡𝐬: He was known for his anti-corruption stance and commitment to security.⁣
⁣
- 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐛𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬/𝐀𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬: Buhari's administration focused on fighting corruption, improving security, and diversifying the economy. He also initiated infrastructure development projects.⁣
⁣
- 𝗪𝐞𝐚𝐤𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐬: Critics argue that his government did not do enough to address economic challenges, corruption and protection of human rights.⁣
⁣
- 𝐆𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐎𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐨𝐧: Buhari's time in office was known for nepotism, and opinions on his performance are divided. While some appreciate his efforts to tackle corruption and insecurity, others believe more could have been done to address economic issues.⁣

2. 𝐃𝐫. 𝐆𝐨𝐨𝐝𝐥𝐮𝐜𝐤 𝐄𝐛𝐞𝐥𝐞 𝐉𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐧 (𝟐𝟎𝟏𝟎-𝟐𝟎𝟏𝟓): ⁣
⁣
- 𝐏𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲: Jonathan was seen as a calm and diplomatic leader.⁣
⁣
- 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐭𝐡𝐬: He emphasized peace-building, diplomacy, and democratic governance.⁣
⁣
- 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐛𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬/𝐀𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬: Jonathan oversaw peaceful elections, implemented reforms in the power sector, and focused on youth empowerment and education.⁣
⁣
- 𝗪𝐞𝐚𝐤𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐬: His administration faced criticism for not doing enough to address corruption and security challenges, particularly the Boko Haram insurgency.⁣
⁣
- 𝐆𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐎𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐨𝐧: Jonathan's time in office is viewed with mixed opinions. While he achieved some progress in certain areas, there are concerns about his handling of corruption and security issues.⁣ Notwithstanding, many count him as a hero when he accepted the outcome of the 2015 election. That singular act earned him a peace ambassador.

3. 𝐀𝐥𝐡𝐚𝐣𝐢 𝐔𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐮 𝐌𝐮𝐬𝐚 𝐘𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐮𝐚 (𝟐𝟎𝟎𝟕-𝟐𝟎𝟏𝟎):⁣
⁣
- 𝐏𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲: Yaradua was seen as a humble and thoughtful leader.⁣
- Strengths: He promoted the rule of law and emphasized the need for good governance.⁣
⁣
- 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐛𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬/𝐀𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬: Yaradua's administration focused on tackling corruption, improving infrastructure, offering amnesty to the Niger-delta militants and addressing power supply challenges.⁣
⁣
- 𝗪𝐞𝐚𝐤𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐬: His tenure was affected by health issues, which limited his ability to fully execute his plans.⁣
⁣
- 𝐆𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐎𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐨𝐧: Yaradua's time in office is generally seen as a period of relative stability and efforts to address corruption. However, it was during his time that Bokoharam's activities began his health challenges impacted the effectiveness of his leadership.⁣
⁣
4. 𝐂𝐡𝐢𝐞𝐟 𝐎𝐥𝐮𝐬𝐞𝐠𝐮𝐧 𝐎𝐛𝐚𝐬𝐚𝐧𝐣𝐨 (𝟏𝟗𝟕𝟔-𝟏𝟗𝟕𝟗, 𝟏𝟗𝟗𝟗-𝟐𝟎𝟎𝟕):⁣
⁣
- 𝐏𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲: Obasanjo is known for his strong personality, assertiveness, and leadership skills.⁣
⁣
- 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐭𝐡𝐬: He played a crucial role in Nigeria's transition from military to civilian rule and initiated economic reforms.⁣
⁣
- 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐛𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬/𝐀𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬: Obasanjo implemented various policies to tackle corruption, promote economic growth, strengthen International relationships and improve governance. He also facilitated debt relief for Nigeria.⁣
⁣
- 𝗪𝐞𝐚𝐤𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐬: His administration faced criticism for not doing enough to address corruption and human rights abuses.⁣
⁣
- 𝐆𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐎𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐨𝐧: Obasanjo's time in office had a mix of achievements and controversies, but his contributions to Nigeria's democratic transition, international relations and economic reforms are recognized.⁣

5. 𝐆𝐞𝐧. 𝐒𝐚𝐧𝐢 𝐀𝐛𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐚 (𝟏𝟗𝟗𝟑-𝟏𝟗𝟗𝟖):⁣

- 𝐏𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲: Abacha was known for his authoritarian rule and tight grip on power.⁣

- 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐭𝐡𝐬: He focused on maintaining law and order and implemented economic reforms.⁣
⁣
- 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐛𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬/𝐀𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬: Abacha's administration introduced the Petroleum Trust Fund (PTF) to address infrastructure development and initiated economic policies to stabilize the economy.⁣

- 𝗪𝐞𝐚𝐤𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐬: His regime was marred by human rights abuses, corruption allegations, and political repression.⁣
⁣
- 𝐆𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐎𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐨𝐧: Abacha's time in office is widely criticized due to his authoritarian rule, human rights violations, and corruption. His economic policies, however, had some positive impacts.⁣

6. 𝐆𝐞𝐧. 𝐈𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐡𝐢𝐦 𝐁𝐚𝐛𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐢𝐝𝐚 (𝟏𝟗𝟖𝟓-𝟏𝟗𝟗𝟑):⁣
⁣
- 𝐏𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲: Babangida was seen as a charismatic and skilful leader.⁣
⁣
- 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐭𝐡𝐬: He introduced economic reforms and initiated the Structural Adjustment Program (SAP) to address Nigeria's economic challenges.⁣
⁣
- 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐛𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬/𝐀𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬: Babangida promoted a more liberalized economy, encouraged foreign investment, and implemented political reforms.⁣
⁣
- 𝗪𝐞𝐚𝐤𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐬: His government faced allegations of corruption and there were controversies surrounding his annulment of the 1993 presidential election.⁣
⁣
- 𝐆𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐎𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐨𝐧: Babangida's time in office is viewed with mixed opinions. While his economic reforms are appreciated, his handling of political issues and allegations of corruption are sources of criticism.⁣

7. 𝐆𝐞𝐧 𝐘𝐚𝐤𝐮𝐛𝐮 𝐆𝐨𝐰𝐨𝐧 (𝟏𝟗𝟔𝟔-𝟏𝟗𝟕𝟓):⁣

- Personality: Gowon was seen as a calm and disciplined leader.⁣
⁣
- 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐭𝐡𝐬: He led Nigeria during the Biafra civil war and worked towards national unity and reconciliation.⁣
⁣
- 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐛𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬/𝐀𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬: Gowon implemented the "Three Rs" policy (Reconciliation, Reconstruction, and Rehabilitation) to rebuild war-torn areas and promote economic growth through the oil boom.⁣
⁣
- 𝗪𝐞𝐚𝐤𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐬: His government faced allegations of corruption and mismanagement.⁣
⁣
- 𝐆𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐎𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐨𝐧: Gowon's time in office was marked by both successes and challenges, but his efforts towards national unity and post-war reconstruction are appreciated⁣

8. 𝐃𝐫. 𝐍𝐧𝐚𝐦𝐝𝐢 𝐀𝐳𝐢𝐤𝐢𝐰𝐞 (𝟏𝟗𝟔𝟎-𝟏𝟗𝟔𝟔):⁣
⁣
- Personality: Azikiwe was known for his charisma, intelligence, and oratory skills.⁣
⁣
- 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐭𝐡𝐬: He played a significant role in Nigeria's struggle for independence and was a prominent nationalist leader.⁣
⁣
- 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐛𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬/𝐀𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬: Azikiwe served as Nigeria's first President and Governor-General. He advocated for African unity and played a key role in the formation of the Organization of Africa (now the African Union).⁣
⁣
- 𝗪𝐞𝐚𝐤𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐬: Azikiwe's time in office was marked by political instability and regional tensions.⁣
⁣
- 𝐆𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐎𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐨𝐧: Azikiwe's time in office was challenging due to the post-independence struggles, but his contributions to Nigeria's independence movement are widely recognized.

How can you explain that a country (the most populous Black Nation) that is The poverty capital of the world with a high rate of unemployment, poor infrastructure, demoralizing economy, an embarrassing number of out-of-school children, unbelievable corruption record were rat, gorilla, and snake are involved, highly insecure ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
And yet...

Has a high number of talented young people doing wonders in music, sports, business, finance, medicals, digital market, and many other areas?

In addition, highly blessed with all sorts of Natural resources found across the length and breadth of the country and

Interestingly and disappointedly, very religious.⁣⁣

This kind of combination of abilities with poor deliverables can be blamed on our political inefficiency.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Who is occupying our political space including the gates of regulating bodies like INEC, the Military, the Judiciary, and others in the country?⁣⁣

How has religion contributed to what we are facing today and what can we begin to do now to change the narrative?⁣⁣

THE BATTLE FOR ELECTORAL REFORM HAS BEGUN

Yesterday the 28th Nov., 2023, the joint Committee of both chambers of the National Assembly on electoral Matters met with civil society organizations and relevant stakeholders at the Federal Capital Territory to debate and reason together on the way forward on our electoral reform system and democratic process, which will go down in the political history of our country.

Creative Think Tank Group, a group known for quality leadership and good governance was there with 15 articles of recommendation for a better electoral process.

The group through the chairman, Don. Oliver Idahosa stated that they have consistently assured the public of their resolved commitment to keep engaging in public dialogues on possible ways by which our electoral legal framework can be reviewed, reformed, and respected for a sustainable democratic process.
He added that 'we will not give up. as It must get better.
