Congratulations to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Emergence as APC Presidential Candidate
The Director General and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency (NiHSA), Umar Ibrahim Mohammed, has congratulated His Excellency, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, on his emergence as the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2027 presidential election.
Umar Ibrahim Mohammed described the emergence of President Tinubu as a reflection of the confidence and trust reposed in his leadership, vision, and commitment to the continued progress and development of Nigeria under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
He noted that the President’s dedication to national growth, infrastructural development, economic reforms, and institutional strengthening continues to inspire Nigerians across different sectors.
The DG/CEO prayed for wisdom, strength, and greater success for President Tinubu as he continues to provide purposeful leadership for the nation.
He further reaffirmed his support and loyalty to the ideals of the Renewed Hope Agenda and expressed confidence in a more prosperous and united Nigeria.

NiHSA Hosts Abuja Schools on Educational Excursion
The Director General and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency (NiHSA), Umar Ibrahim Mohammed, hosted students and pupils from three schools in Abuja on an educational excursion aimed at exposing them to the functions and operations of the Agency.
The schools that participated in the excursion were CIL Academy, Joseph Jorin International School, and Goldsworth Resort Development Academy.
The visit was organized by NTA 2 Channel 5 under its children’s educational programme, Kiddies World, to enable the students gain firsthand knowledge of the responsibilities and activities of NiHSA.
Representing the Director General/CEO, the Director of Operational Hydrology, Femi Bejide, warmly welcomed the students and encouraged them to freely ask questions and make the most of the opportunity, assuring them that the excursion would be a memorable learning experience.
As part of the programme, Mr. Taiwo delivered a detailed presentation on the overview, mandates, and operations of NiHSA, highlighting the Agency’s critical role in hydrological monitoring, flood forecasting, water resources management, and provision of hydrological information across Nigeria.
The students and pupils actively participated in an interactive session where they asked questions, which were comprehensively addressed by NiHSA departmental directors and officials.
In his closing remarks, Pastor Femi Bejide appreciated the organizers, teachers, and students for the visit and commended the students for their enthusiasm and eagerness to learn.
The excursion also featured a guided facility tour of NiHSA, where the students were taken round key operational units of the Agency to further enhance their understanding of hydrological services and related activities.

Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency, Niger Basin Authority Review PIDACC/NB Phase I Ahead of Phase II Implementation
The Director General/CEO of the Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency (NiHSA), Umar Ibrahim Mohammed, received the Executive Secretary of the Niger Basin Authority (NBA), Kocou Armand Houanye, alongside a delegation from the Federal Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation in Abuja.
The meeting focused on reviewing the implementation of the Programme for Integrated Development and Adaptation to Climate Change in the Niger Basin (PIDACC/NB) Phase I, identifying challenges encountered, and discussing strategies for improved implementation ahead of Phase II.
The NBA Executive Secretary emphasized the importance of regional cooperation among the nine member countries in areas such as energy, agriculture, fisheries, mining, and climate resilience, while reaffirming the Authority’s commitment to strengthening collaboration with NiHSA.
In his remarks, the Director General of NiHSA appreciated the NBA for its continued partnership and highlighted the Agency’s achievements in hydrological forecasting, flood early warning, and improved data quality, which have contributed significantly to reducing flood-related losses across Nigeria.
He further noted that since the commencement of PIDACC/NB in 2019, NiHSA has remained one of the beneficiary agencies in the areas of hydrological prediction, flood mapping, and technical support equipment.
The meeting reaffirmed stakeholders’ commitment towards ensuring a more effective implementation of PIDACC/NB Phase II for sustainable development and climate resilience within the Niger Basin region.

The Director General/CEO of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Mrs. Zubaida Umar paid a courtesy visit to the Director General/CEO of the Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency (NiHSA), Umar Ibrahim Mohammed.
The DG/CEO of NiHSA welcomed the NEMA delegation and appreciated the Agency’s continued commitment to disaster risk management and emergency response coordination across the country. He noted that the visit reflects the strong partnership and shared commitment between NiHSA and NEMA towards safeguarding lives and property from flood-related disasters.
He further emphasised the importance of sustained collaboration among critical stakeholders, particularly NiHSA, NEMA, and the (NiMet), in strengthening Nigeria’s flood forecasting, early warning dissemination, and disaster preparedness systems.
The DG/CEO of NEMA commended NiHSA for its pivotal role in flood prediction and the successful release of the 2026 Annual Flood Outlook. She also lauded the NiHSA Flood Dashboard initiative, describing it as a strategic tool for improving anticipatory action and disaster preparedness nationwide.
Mrs. Umar stressed the need for enhanced inter-agency cooperation through the establishment of a joint early warning platform involving NiHSA, NiMet, and NEMA to facilitate real-time data sharing and improve forecasting capabilities.
According to her, “There is a need for us to pool our resources together in order to obtain real-time data that will strengthen early warning systems.
Beyond the conventional three-month forecast, efforts should also be directed towards achieving more frequent predictive updates, including weekly forecasts where possible.”
The DG/CEO of NiHSA reiterated the importance of teamwork and institutional synergy in addressing climate-related disasters. He stated that collaboration among NiHSA, NEMA, and the Nigeria Meteorological Agency (NiMet) remains the most effective pathway towards strengthening disaster preparedness.

World Bank, ACReSAL Delegation Visits NiHSA, Strengthens Partnership on Data-Driven Water Management
The Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency (NiHSA) hosted a high-level delegation from the World Bank and Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes Project (ACReSAL), led by Nagaraja Rao Harshadeep and Abdulhamid Umar.
The NiHSA team, led by Femi Bejide on behalf of DG/CEO, commended ACReSAL’s interventions and called for more support in hydrological data collection and water quality analysis.
In response, the delegation reaffirmed commitment to supporting NiHSA through improved data systems, Hydrogeoinformatics, satellite and drone technology, and capacity building. They also emphasized open data and data-driven decision-making, noting that ACReSAL has a six-year implementation window to deepen support.
The visit featured an inspection of NiHSA’s Data Centre, highlighting ongoing efforts to modernize Nigeria’s hydrological data systems.

The Director-General of Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency (NiHSA), Umar Ibrahim Mohammed, joined regional leaders in Abidjan for the 17th consultation of disaster management agencies in West Africa.
The meeting, convened by Economic Community of West African States in collaboration with United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction, focused on tackling shared disaster risks across the region.
A key highlight was the PRESA-GG forecast by AGRHYMET Regional Centre, which predicts above-average rainfall and a high risk of flooding in 2026.
NiHSA’s participation reinforces Nigeria’s commitment to stronger early warning systems, improved flood forecasting, and enhanced regional data sharing to better manage disaster risks.
