A senior administrator at the College of Education Maru, Bashar Sani, was killed by suspected bandits despite his family paying large ransoms over several years.

1. First Kidnapping

Bandits initially abducted his two wives in Maru LGA of Zamfara State.

They were released after payment.

2. Second Kidnapping

The criminals later kidnapped his younger brother, Hassan Sani.

About 18 months later, the bandits located Sani’s new residence in Maru town and attacked again.

Victims abducted included:

Bashar Sani

One of his wives

His daughter

Other residents

During the same attack:

The wife of a police officer was killed

Her five children were abducted

4. Ransom Demands

The kidnappers demanded:

₦20 million ransom

Airtime recharge cards worth ₦200,000

Four mobile phones

Three motorcycles (initially demanded 15)

All these demands were reportedly paid and delivered.

5. Tragic Discovery

After payment, the family was directed to a village in Maradun LGA to collect the released hostages.

His wife and daughter were released

Bashar Sani was missing

They later learned that he had already died in captivity.

Untreated fractured leg

NATCOM BEGINS ISSUE OF NEW ENGAGEMENT LETTERS

The top management of National Commission against proliferation of Small Arms and Light Weapons has officially commenced the issuance of new appointment letters to the State Directors.

One of the Officers who pleaded anonymity confirmed the authenticity of the information with some pictorial evidence.

The distribution of the offer letter is being done by the acting Chairman of the Commission; Dr Baba Mohammed who sponsored the bill in both Red and Green Chambers of the National Assembly until it's final passage.

Jubilation is everywhere as there's a renewed hope for many jobless youth who has been holding the old appointment letter for a period of 2years now.

ECOWAS engages independent experts to review the study on civilian possession of arms in the region.

As part of the reduction of insecurity and the fight against illicit arms trafficking, the ECOWAS Commission brought together during a workshop, independent subject matter experts on issues of arms control, especially setting standards for civilian possession from 4 to 6 April 2023, in Abuja, Nigeria.

The objectives of this workshop were to improve the control of weapons held by civilians and to present a guide on the licensing of weapons for civilians in ECOWAS Member States.

This workshop was attended by civil society organizations working in the fight against small arms and light weapons (SALW), representatives of the National Commission on SALW (Nat-Com SALW), and staff members of the ECOWAS Commission.



A total of three speeches were delivered during the opening ceremony.

ROADMAP

Senate Committee Reports on the establishment of two new security outfits have yesterday been laid before the house and expectedly they have been unanimously accepted as a working document by the members of Nigerian Senate.

Mr President who's expected to review and assent to the bills will nominate the chairman of the Commission who will be screened by the Senate to ensure credibility, integrity, and competency of the Chairman in line with ECOWAS standard.

Teeming Nigerian Youths without gainful appointment have since 2021 expecting a reasonable outcome from the Senate in regards to the bill.

Dr Baba Mohammed has been the pioneer and sponsor of the Bill: National Commission against proliferation of Small and Light Weapons in Nigeria. Undoubtedly, expectations are very high as he's most likely going to be the Chairman of the Commission.

NATIONAL DG BABA MOHAMMED CHARGES OFFICERS TO REMAIN STEADFASTLY COMMITTED AS NATCOM PREPARES TO TRANSIT

As formal office activities commences for 2023 at the NATCOM of Nigeria's headquarters located in 13 Lord Lugard crescent Asokoro Abuja, the National DG has charged officers nationwide to remain steadfast and committed in the actualization of the core values of the organization.

He stated further that NATCOM Nigeria has come a long way in pursuit of it's activities across the length and breadth of this country, which to him is the reason behind the wide acceptability and goodwill the organization is currently enjoying, following the passing into law of the Bill for an Act to Establish the Nigerian NATIONAL COMMISSION solely to give statutory backing to the already existing NATFORCE Nigeria.

BABA MOHAMMED who emphasized on the need for unity and team play amongst officers working at the Headquarters hinted that, going by recent development with the NATCOM Bill, it is crystal clear that NATFORCE of Nigeria will soon transit to Nigerian National commission by God's grace in no distant time, which to him is why everyone must work together as a family for the realization of the collective goal of the organization. He prayed God to see the organization through this crucial phase of her existence.
