67 years ago, the first-ever EU law, Regulation 1/58, established our official EU languages. Growing over time, it’s still going strong! We started with Dutch, French, German, and Italian. Today, we have 24 official EU languages.

United in diversity, multilingualism is one of our founding principles in the EU.

Through languages, we can build connections, discover new cultures, develop life-long friendships, and travel with ease.
