‎Former Governor of Abia State, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu moves to bridge health inequality, partners with over 80 public and private facilities including FMC Umuahia to deliver no-cost medical services across five LGAs.

‎In a bold move to redefine constituency welfare, the Senator representing Abia North, His Excellency Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu, has officially enrolled over 500 constituents into a comprehensive, one-year free medical treatment program under the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).

‎The initiative, which targets residents across the five local government areas of Abia North, guarantees beneficiaries access to quality healthcare at zero out-of-pocket cost. The program was unveiled over the weekend, with the Senator’s Aide, Barrister Victor Etie, standing in for the lawmaker.

‎Beneficiaries, who have already begun visiting their chosen hospitals, expressed relief at the removal of financial barriers to treatment. “My children can finally get the malaria treatment they need without me having to sell our goods, I thank Senator Orji Uzor Kalu for facilitating this great initiative,” said a mother from Umunneochi who enrolled in the scheme.

‎Kalu's Aide, Etie confirmed that the enrollment portal remains structured, and constituents are advised to visit their pre-selected hospitals immediately to begin accessing care.

‎“This is not a campaign promise. This is a functioning reality,” Etie added. “Senator Kalu is showing that public office is about solving the primary needs of the people—starting with their health."

‎This medical treatment program, brought by Sen. Kalu runs simultaneously across the five Local Government Areas in Abia North.

At yesterday’s plenary, I joined my colleagues in taking decisive steps geared towards strengthening national security and advancing Nigeria’s development.

I firmly supported the Senate’s directive to the Inspector General of Police to immediately commence a comprehensive investigation into the tragic attacks in Angwan Rukuba, Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State, to ensure that those behind the senseless killing of innocent Nigerians are identified and brought to justice.

We also honoured the victims with a minute of silence, while reiterating our collective resolve that impunity must not be tolerated.

The Senate further called for a reinforced and sustained security presence in vulnerable communities, including the establishment of a permanent joint operational base, alongside intensified intelligence-driven military operations across the country.

In addition, we passed the ₦68.323 trillion 2026 Appropriation Bill, a critical fiscal framework designed to address key sectors such as infrastructure, healthcare, and the judiciary.

As a representative of the people, I remain committed to ensuring that our region is adequately captured in the national budget. I will continue to advocate for impactful projects that complement the efforts of our dear President, particularly in the areas of electricity and road infrastructure.

Our people deserve meaningful development, better connectivity, and stable power supply, and I will persist in championing these priorities.

We remain focused on delivering policies and projects that improve the lives of our people.
