I congratulate an illustrious son of Abia North, Chief Umeh Kalu, SAN, Life Bencher, and former Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice of Abia State, as he marks 40 years of his call to the Nigerian Bar.

I am particularly happy to celebrate this milestone with him. Having known him for many years, I appreciate his contributions to the legal profession and his service to Abia State, where he served as Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice for 10 years.

For someone who began his legal career in 1986, attaining the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria and becoming a Life Bencher are achievements worth celebrating. As a son of Okagwe Ohafia, his accomplishments also bring pride to our people in Abia North.

My dear brother, I join you and your family in thanking God for how far He has brought you. As you rightly acknowledged, God has indeed been faithful.

I pray that Almighty God continues to grant you good health, wisdom, peace of mind and many more fulfilling years.

During plenary at the Senate, I lent my voice in support of a motion moved by my colleague, Senator Osita Ngwu, concerning the state of the bridge linking Enugu State to Mbala community in Umunneochi Local Government Area of Abia State.

I supported all the prayers contained in the motion, calling on the Federal Government to intervene and address the concerns raised over the condition of the bridge.

The bridge serves as an important link for traders, farmers and other residents who depend on it for their daily economic activities. It plays a vital role in facilitating the movement of people, goods and agricultural produce between the affected communities.

I emphasised the need for Federal Government intervention to support the people of these communities, particularly farmers and traders whose livelihoods depend on this important route.

As the Senate resumes plenary today, I paid tribute to a departed dear friend and distinguished Former Colleague and added my voice to the tragic loss of our brave military personnel.

I mourn the painful passing of a dear friend and brother. His death is a profound loss to his family, the people of Katsina State, and all who knew him. Life is transient, and moments like this remind us that what truly matters is the legacy we leave behind.

May Almighty God grant his family and the people of Katsina the strength to bear this loss, and grant my dear friend eternal rest. His legacy of integrity, friendship, and dedicated service to our nation will continue to live on.

On another somber note, the tragic loss of 25 officers and crew members in the NAF aircraft crash in Igbokoda, Ondo State on October 5 is a devastation that must not be treated lightly. Our service personnel make enormous sacrifices; we owe them and their families rigorous safety measures.
​
I fully support the Senate’s directive for our relevant committees on the Air Force and aviation to conduct a comprehensive audit of military and presidential aircraft, assess their airworthiness, and establish the circumstances surrounding this crash to protect lives.

As Chairman of the Senate Committee on the South East Development Commission (SEDC), I led members of the Committee on an oversight visit to inspect the ongoing construction of the Commission’s headquarters in Enugu, Enugu State.

I am impressed with the level of work and progress recorded so far on the project. I commend the leadership of the Commission for its commitment and efforts towards ensuring the successful ex*****on of this important project.

We will continue to provide the necessary legislative oversight and support to ensure that the Commission delivers on its mandate for the development of the South East geopolitical zone.
