“Retirement security begins during working life, not at retirement.” — Faleye

The Managing Director/Chief Executive of the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF), Mr Oluwaseun Faleye, has called for a shared responsibility approach to retirement and social protection.

Speaking at the 2026 National Pre-Retirement Summit in Abuja, Faleye stressed that pensions and personal savings, while essential, must be complemented by effective institutional protection throughout a worker’s career.
Under the Employees’ Compensation Scheme (ECS), NSITF now covers over 7.8 million workers, while average claims turnaround has improved from 14 days to just 10 days.

He emphasised that protection must go beyond registration to deliver real benefits through compliance, prevention, compensation, rehabilitation and timely claims payment.
For the Nigerian worker, social protection must be more than a promise on paper. It must be felt when it matters most.
