Diplomatic Sports is a programme designed specifically for all resident Diplomatic Missions and international organizations accredited to Nigeria. This programme is in recognition of the fact that in addition to the overall skills acquired by members of resident Diplomatic Corps for Diplomatic service, virtually every one in service has one sporting skill, ability or interest that requires convenient environment and opportunity for constructive use of such valuable skills or ability.
The annual Diplomatic Sports event is one of the various vehicles that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in its wisdom designed in collaboration with Umex Integrated Services to promote peace, unity and integration amongst members of the Diplomatic Corps in Nigeria through Sports Diplomacy.
The programme, which is to be an annual event, shall involve a wide range of indoor and outdoor sporting activities. Some of the sports shall include: Football, Golf, Table tennis, Tennis, Badminton, Squash, Cricket, Hockey, Basketball, Volleyball, Handball, Baseball, Women Football, Boxing, Karate, Judo, Taekwondo, Swimming, Cycling, Snooker, Billiards, Chess, Monopoly, Draughts and Scrabble.

OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME
1. The programme which is for the participation of all resident Diplomatic Missions and international organizations accredited to Nigeria is aimed at enhancing integration, interaction, better understanding and sound relationship amongst members of the Diplomatic Corps in Nigeria through sports diplomacy.
2. It is to demonstrate Nigeria’s consistent desire to promote the policy of regional, continental and global peace through integration.
3. The programme is aimed at developing, building, strengthening, broadening and warming up friendship amongst members of resident diplomatic Corps in Nigeria using the instrumentality of sports accepted the world over as a unifying agent.
4. It is to enable members of the resident Diplomatic Corps enjoy their stay, enjoy their relationship with one another as well as have fond memories of their service years in Nigeria.
5. It is aimed at keeping the men and women of the Foreign Service fit and active to enhance their overall efficiency and effectiveness in service delivery.
6. It is to afford resident diplomats the opportunity to unwind while engaging in recreational activities.
7. It is to constructively engage the body and mind of members of resident Diplomatic Corps outside their day to day busy schedules.
8. It is aimed at giving members of the Diplomatic Corps the opportunity to activate, sharpen and keep their skills alive through sporting activities.
9. It is to enhance the overall mental, physical and psychological well being of resident diplomats in Nigeria.
