YEJ’s Mission: To provide support and facilitate good governance and social Welfare strengthening our electoral structures across the Wards, Local Government and States in Nigeria.

Project Goal: The goal of this project is to mobilize resources for medical and health outreaches by working closely with other agencies to expand access to health for hard-to-reach communities, especially women and youths.
Project Period: July 27, 2014– January 16, 2015

I. Background
Youths for Ebele Jonathan (YEJ), is a project part of the Youths for Empowerment and Justice Group. We are a non-governmental organization (NGO working nationally to increase awareness about good governance and social welfare strengthening at the grassroots and urban poor communities in Nigeria. We seek to increase awareness about government accountability and the availability of resources that could be of use to youths, women and minority groups. We seek to mobilize resources from individuals, corporations and donor agencies to address critical needs identified in communities as we sensitize and mobilize these communities to exercise their voting rights without coercion. We are a pressure group that advocates for quality and sustainable democratic dividends, performance milestones upon which governments should be elected. YEJ believes that votes count when youths, Women and men exercise their voting rights based on informed choice and quality voters education.

To date, we have built a strong presence in Nigeria by setting up socio-political structures in the country with over 4 million leaders across the country spanning the 8809 wards and 774 local Governments in the 36 states of the country and the FCT, Abuja. These leaders are spread across our ancillary groups- the Youth Vanguard, the Grassroots Women Forum and the Door-To-Door program.

YEJ is governed by a dedicated and committed team of Board of Trustees (BOT), National Working Committee (NWC) and the National Executive Council (NEC).

II. Objectives
YEJ has identified and linked with diverse partners, structuring groups at the ward, Local government and state levels to prepare a collective movement of educated and conscientized voters, while also exploring ways to bridge the gap between the economic imbalances that would make for healthy and invigorated voters in 2015 and beyond. We have begun to engender increasingly vocal commitment to the issue of democracy, good governance, government accountability and community social strengthening.
YEJ will mobilize its networks and constituents to actively support and provide non-medical volunteers in all the identified communities where the medical outreach project will be hosted; provide grants for personnel, equipment, advocacy materials and medical services to reach over 125,000 Nigerians with medication, laboratory tests, optometric, dental and pediatric counseling & surgeries to men, women & children. We will also provide material assistance to indigent community members to ensure that the objectives of this project are fully realized.

We have formed a strong partnership with Soteria Afrique to execute the above projects in the selected states, and our zonal & state structures are going through information sensitization in readiness for the launch of the project as we roll out across the country.

III. Beneficiaries and Outputs
The proposed medical outreach is designed to provide free medical consultations and a broad range of medical services to local communities in 26 states of the federation, covering the 6 geopolitical zones in the country: Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Sokoto, Bauchi, Gombe, Adamawa, Taraba, Plateau, Nasarawa, Benue, Kogi, Ebonyi, Abia, Imo, Anambra, Edo, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, Osun, Ekiti, Ondo, Ogun, Lagos and the FCT, Abuja.

The target group would be Youths, Men and Women in the identified communities and its environs with projected total of 125,000 persons, calculated at about 5,000 per state.

The medical outreach will provide free services at very subsidized cost due to the leveraging of professional skills that the collaboration enables. The communities would have the benefit of being attended to by medical professionals and consultants at no cost to them. The free medical outreach program will become our template for advocating and lobbying for improved government funding for rural health services at all levels of government.

IV. Cost Implications
Our secretariat will provide the breakdown of cost on request.
The project commences from 27th July 2014 to 16th January 2015 in collaboration with SOTERIA-Afrique Rural Healthcare Initiative.
We hope to provide about 1,875 varied types of medically approved consultations and surgical operations, regardless of the nature of ailment treated.

With the federal government beginning to address rural health care for grassroots and minority groups in Nigeria, the national elections on the horizon, and commitment from diverse partners, kind support from You will enable YEJ to take advantage of this unprecedented opportunity to improve community health and share best practices from this project. This will be demonstrated more in Okirika, your hometown where we hope to fully mobilize the medical train upon arrival in Rivers State on Monday 1st December, 2014 to impact on your people.

V. Monitoring/Evaluation
Within three weeks the community will be visited by some Doctors and some of the medical team to ensure there are no complications, attend to aftercare issues and counsel patients where necessary. All the referrals to the local health facility will be followed up and comprehensive medical report of each case taken and deposited at the local health facility.. A project report will then be written after this for the sponsors, local government officials and community heads.
The local YEJ team and volunteers will continue to follow up on complaints, if any, and provide feedback to the medical outreach team.
