IT'S INTERNATIONAL YOUTH DAY
It is my pleasure to join other stakeholders in Ekiti State to celebrate this year's edition of United Nation’s (UN) International Youth Day. In our rich tradition, Ekiti State is once again joining the Global Community to celebrate and bring to the front burner our rising generation’s voices, actions, challenges, as well as their meaningful, universal and equitable engagements under the theme "Transforming Food Systems: Youth Innovation for Human and Planetary Health".
His Excellency Governor Kayode Fayemi and His amiable wife Erelu Bisi Fayemi have both championed the issues of youth empowerment and active engagement with vigour, vision and creativity, with strong believe that investing in youths is an investment in the future, and the legacies we labour to build today can only be preserved and sustained if we have capable youths who are adequately equipped to take over the baton and move it to the next level.
A major pillar and priority for this year’s International Youth Day celebration is the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly as it relates to its effect on human health, the environment, and food systems, as well as how to achieve more equitable food systems in our communities. In addition, the occasion will be used to highlight the need for youth to make informed decisions on food choices through increasing education and awareness program on the healthiest and most sustainable options for both individuals and the environment.
