HON. ILIYASU ZAKARI COMMENDS LOCAL GOVERNMENT WORKERS ON MAY DAY CELEBRATION

The Acting National President of ALGON and Executive Chairman of Agwara Local Government Area, Hon. Iliyasu Zakari, has congratulated all staff of Agwara LGA, Niger State, and all Local Government workers across Nigeria on the occasion of Workers’ Day, May 1.

In a congratulations message convey through his Press Secretary, Bello Gidi, Hon. Iliyasu praised the hard work, commitment, and patience of Local Government workers in serving their communities.

He said that workers remain the backbone of governance at the grassroots level. He noted that their daily efforts help to bring development closer to the people, especially in areas like health, education, agriculture, and social services.

Hon. Iliyasu also said that the role of Local Government staff is very important in achieving national growth. He encouraged workers to remain dedicated, honest, and focused in their duties.

He assured that ALGON will continue to support policies and programs that will improve the welfare, working conditions, and capacity of Local Government workers across the country.

He further called on all levels of government to give more support to workers and ensure that their rights and benefits are protected.

Hon. Iliyasu wished all workers a peaceful and happy Workers’ Day celebration.

ALGON PRESIDENT SEEKS PARTNERSHIP WITH NIGERIAN AMBASSADOR TO RUSSIA FOR GRASSROOTS DEVELOPMENT

The Acting National President of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria, Hon. Iliyasu Zakari, has paid a familiarization visit to Joseph Olusola Iji, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Russian Federation.

The meeting was held as part of efforts to build strong working ties and open new areas of cooperation between Nigeria’s local governments and international partners.

During the interface, both leaders discussed ways to promote grassroots development across Nigeria, especially in key areas such as education, agriculture, and youth empowerment through skill acquisition programs.

Hon. Iliyasu explained that local governments play a key role in national development and need global support and partnership to improve the lives of people at the grassroots level. He noted that working with the Nigerian Embassy in Russia will help create new opportunities for training, investment, and knowledge sharing.

Ambassador Iji welcomed the visit and assured of his readiness to support initiatives that will bring development to local communities in Nigeria. He stressed the importance of partnership in driving sustainable growth and improving livelihoods.

The visit marks a new step towards building strong international collaboration that will benefit local governments and communities across the country.

ALGON PRESIDENT PAYS WORKING VISIT TO FRSC CORPS MARSHAL IN ABUJA

The Acting National President of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Hon. Iliyasu Zakari, has paid an official working visit to the Corps Marshal and Chief Executive of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Shehu Mohammed, mni, at the FRSC National Headquarters in Abuja.

During the visit, Hon. Iliyasu said the purpose of the meeting was to strengthen the working relationship between local governments and the FRSC across the country. He noted that road safety is very important to the lives of Nigerians, especially at the grassroots level where local governments operate.

He explained that many road accidents happen within local communities, and this makes it necessary for local government authorities to work closely with the FRSC to reduce such incidents. He added that ALGON is ready to support all efforts that will improve road safety, traffic control, and public awareness.

He further appreciated the leadership of the Corps Marshal for his commitment and efforts in promoting road safety nationwide. He assured the FRSC of ALGON’s full support in achieving its mandate.

In his response, the Corps Marshal welcomed the visit and commended ALGON for the initiative. He expressed readiness to work closely with local governments to improve road safety at all levels.

The visit ended with a mutual agreement to build stronger collaboration for safer roads across Nigeria.

Familiarization Visit to the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF)

The Acting National President of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Hon. Iliyasu Zakari, led members of the ALGON Board of Trustees alongside State ALGON Representatives on a familiarization visit to the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF).

The visit was aimed at strengthening collaboration, fostering mutual understanding, and enhancing intergovernmental relations between ALGON and the NGF to promote effective governance and grassroots development across the country.

This initiative is in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which emphasizes unity, inclusive governance, and sustainable development at all levels of government.

ALGON SEEKS STRONG PARTNERSHIP WITH GOVERNORS FOR GRASSROOTS DEVELOPMENT

The Acting National President of the Association of Local Government Chairmen of Nigeria (ALGON), Hon. Iliyasu Zakari, has called for stronger cooperation between local government chairmen and state governors to improve development at the grassroots.

Hon. Zakari made this call during a familiarization visit by ALGON leaders to the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, His Excellency AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, at the Forum Secretariat in Abuja on Wednesday, 22 April 2026.

He was joined by the Chairman of the Board of Trustees and other ALGON members. During the meeting, he stressed the need for close working relationship between both levels of government to support community development, create jobs, and improve services for the people.

Hon. Zakari said that working together with governors will help to achieve the goals of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

According to him, local governments are the closest to the people and must be well supported through joint efforts with state governments to bring real development to communities.

He explained that the visit shows ALGON’s commitment to build a strong and respectful relationship with governors, whom he described as key partners in grassroots governance.

“We are here to identify with our governors and assure them of our full support and cooperation. As the third tier of government, we are ready to work together for the progress of our people,” he said.

Hon. Zakari added that visiting the Nigeria Governors’ Forum is an important first step after their inauguration, showing their readiness to work in unity.

In his response, the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, His Excellency AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, welcomed the ALGON delegation and assured them of the Forum’s support.

He said that strong cooperation among all levels of government is important to solve economic and social challenges and to improve the welfare of citizens.
