*YOUTH PARLIAMENT CONGRATULATES HON. OMOYOFUNMI SEGUN HENRY ON COMMISSIONER NOMINATION*

The Second Session of the Ondo State Youth Parliament heartily congratulates Hon. Omoyofunmi Segun Henry on his well deserved nomination as a Commissioner in the Ondo State Executive Council.

In a statement jointly signed by all members of the Second Session, the Parliament described the appointment of Hon. Omoyofunmi, former Minority Leader of the Youth Parliament, as a round peg in a round hole, reflecting his proven dedication to youth development, good governance, and public service. His nomination is not only commendable but also a testament to the capacity and potential of young leaders in our state.

The Youth Parliament also expresses deep appreciation to His Excellency, Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, for fulfilling his promise of youth inclusion in governance. This appointment is a bold step in line with the renewed hope agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which prioritizes the active participation of young people in national development.

We remain confident that Hon. Omoyofunmi will serve with integrity, diligence, and excellence, and continue to be a beacon of hope and inspiration to youths across the state.

Ondo State Ministry of Youth and Sports Development is calling interested and eligible youths in the state to be part of 3rd Session of the State Youth Parliament.

Application opens 3rd September and closes on 24th September, 2024.

Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, CON represented by the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development Otunba Bamidele Ologun at the Public Lecture organized by Ondo State Youth Parliament tagged 'Knowledge Economy: The way out of Youth Unemployment' held at Obafemi Awolowo Auditorium FUTA, Akure on Tuesday 13th December 2022.

INDEPENDENCE ANNIVERSARY: ONDO STATE YOUTH PARLIAMENT CALLS FOR NATIONAL UNITY*.

The Ondo State Youth Parliament heartily felicitates the entire YOUTH constituent up in Ondo State on the celebration of the 62nd Independence Anniversary of our dear Nation, Nigeria.

Indeed, through the trajectories of Military rule, Civil War and the eventual coming of Democracy, Nigeria has witnessed diverse watersheds in the annal of her history.

In a statement released by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Smith Ikumapayi charge Nigerians on National Unity.

On the forthcoming 2023 general elections, the Parliament encourage YOUTHS in the State to shun violence but engage majorly on issue based campaign.

While espousing the viable economic capacity of the youth population, the Youth Parliament canvassed for more government investment and youth engagement in Agriculture, Entrepreneurship and Information Technology.

2-Day Capacity Building Program: State Ministry of Youths & Sports Engage Ondo State Youth Parliamentarians Towards Effective Legislature

The Ondo State Government has said it will continue to provide enabling environment for the development of youths capacity as well as prioritize human capacity development.

This assurance was given on behalf of the state government by the Commissioner for Youths & Sports Development, Hon. Dele Ologun while declaring open a 2-Day Capacity Building Program for Ondo State Parliamentarians at Akure Tech Hub on Monday, 15th August, 2022

According to him, the essence of the program is to develop the personal and leadership skill of the youths and also expose them to the rudiments of legislature.

While acknowledging that youths are blessed with great potentials, Hon. Ologun said the training will go a long way in achieving some of the set goals of preparing youths to participate in politics and be involved in matters that directly affects them.

He also used the opportunity to urge them to reciprocate government's gesture with good behaviour in the society.

Giving his goodwill message, the Speaker of Ondo State Youth Parliament, Rt. Hon. Smith Ikumapayi while welcoming Hon. Ologun noted that the training is necessary as it will expose parliamentarians to the importance of legislature for productive engagement just as he noted that legislature is central to any functional system and in order to have a robust democracy, the legislature must operate at maximum capacity.

Rt. Hon. Ikumapayi who said the training is apt further expressed optimism that it will no doubt have great impact on all parliamentarians in the state.

Earlier, the Facilitator of the program and the Executive Director of The Pacesetters fort Youth Development Initiative, Jonathan Obatola said the program was put together to bringparliamentarians up to speed on the rudiments of legislature saying it will go a long way in enhancing their effectiveness.

Other highlights of the event include presentations by Adetunji Osho Esq, Pst. Sam Neye, Clerk of Ondo State Houses of Assembly, as well as a panel session with Hon. Mike Omogbehin, Engr. Razaq Obe and Hon. Akintomide Akinribido as panellists.

ODYP Condemns Owo Sunday Massacre: Sympathizes with deceased family....

It was a black Sunday in the accient City of Owo today, as unknown gun men unleashed a mayhem on the worshippers of St Francis Catholic Church,Owa-Luwa in Owo local government, Ondo State,with series of explosions that rocked the abode of worship, where many feared dead.

Ondo State Youth Parliament frowns at this ugly incident in its entirety, calling on the security agency to restore normalcy to the ancient City so as to allow the innocent citizens go about their lawful businesses and duties..

The Parliamentarians pray God to console the family affected and grant eternal repose to the soul of the departed ones...

May God restore peace to Owo Land and Ondo State in general..

SHOLA ILESANMI UNTIMELY DEMISE: ODYP SYMPATHISE FAMILY AND FRIENDS

With rude shock and deep sense of loss we received the sudden death of Ondo state formidable youth, a seasoned broadcaster and award winning Journalist; Mr.Shola Ilesanmi, a former staff of Ondo State Radiovision Corporation and member of the National Unions of Journalist (NUJ).

Shola displayed high level of professionalism in his life time which really portrayed him an ace broadcaster, with so many awards received as a result of his dedication to duty and commitment to service. His contribution to the journalism profession and development of youths using the media as a tool, will be greatly missed.

We pray Almighty God grant the family, friends and associates the fortitude to bear this irreparable and irreplaceable loss..

YOUTH PARLIAMENT PASS VOTE OF CONFIDENCE ON AMOTEKUN

• Call for the Formation of Local Government Parliament

• Inaugurates New Member

The Ondo State Youth Parliament has passed a vote of confidence on operations of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, known as Amotekun Corps.

The vote of confidence was passed on Amotekun at a sitting of the Youth Parliament, following a motion moved by Hon. Benjamin Olaotigbe representing Akure North Constituency.

Olaotigbe described Amotekun as a child of necessity and appreciate the security network for the peace enjoyed in the state before, during and after the Christmas and New Year celebration. "The atmosphere of peace that we enjoyed before and during festive season is unprecedented as men of Amotekun were visible every where including the forest and Akure metropolis. The cases of robbery and kidnapping on our highways, car snatching and other crimes reduced drastically."

While supporting the motion, Hon. Adunola Davids representing Ose Constituency lauded Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu SAN for his commitment to secure lives and properties of the citizenry and his unyielding support for Amotekun. He also called on the residents of Ondo State to continue to support Amotekun for maximum security.

In another motion moved by Hon. Akorede Alowonle representing Akure South Constituency I, the Parliament call on the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development to commence the formation of Local Government Youth Parliament across the 18LGA of the state.

According to the Parliamentarians, this will further build the capacity of young people and expose them to legislative governance at the grassroot.

Earlier, Hon. Okajare Idowu was sworn in to represent Akoko South West Constituency II following the resignation of Hon. Olusola Ogunniye resigned last year for another national assignment.
