Rule of Law and Empowerment Initiative Empowers NSCDC Personnel with GBV Prevention Training in Ondo

The Rule of Law and Empowerment Initiative, also known as Partners West Africa Nigeria (PWAN), a women-led non- governmental organisation, today, Wednesday 8th April 2026, trained 50 personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Ondo State Command on Gender-Based Violence (GBV), the Administration of criminal justice framework, and other related law.

The training is designed to enhance the capacity of officers in promoting safety and justice, with a specific focus on Prevention strategies for Gender-Based Violence (GBV), Key provisions of the Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Law in Ondo State, Role of law enforcement in addressing harmful social norms as well as community engagement and early identification of risk factors.

While declaring the workshop open, Commandant Oluyemi lbiloye (JP) represented by his Principal Staff Officer (PSO), Deputy Commandant Odunayo Yusuff, the Commandant appreciated PWAN for the timely capacity building workshop by bringing its expertise to Ondo State to enhance the skills of personnel in preventing and mitigating GBV in Ondo State.

The Commandant eulogised the professionalism of the command Gender unit in handling GBV cases leading to successful prosecution and sense of closure to victims.

He acknowledged the ever evolving nature of GBV and admonished the selected officers for the training to upscale their knowledge, be a proactive agent of change, and be more compassionate in our victims' support.The training was put together to deepen understanding of the personnel of GBV from a preventive perspective, clarify the roles of law enforcement in addressing harmful social norms, and strengthen community engagement to identify risk factors before they escalate.

The trainees were drawn from Gender Unit, Anti-Human Trafficking, Female Squad, Armed Squad, Safe School, Investigation & Intelligence department, Peace and Conflict Unit, Citizens Rights, Legal and Public Relations Units, and 4 Divisonal offices, amongst others

The workshop is hoped to enhance skills and knowledge of the officers, improve performance and efficiency, and prepare personnel for specific roles or tasks by ensuring compliance with regulations and standards

EASTER CELEBRATION - NSCDC DEPLOYS 1200 PERSONNEL IN ONDO STATE, DISTRIBUTES OPERATIONAL KITS TO ENSURE SAFE EASTER CELEBRATIONS.

The State Commandant of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Ondo State Command, Commandant Oluyemi Ibiloye (JP), has ordered the deployment of 1200 officers and men, along with other operational assets of the Corps, to beef up security before, during and after the 2026 Easter celebration.

The deployment was contained in an Operational Order released to all formation and tactical heads on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, in preparation for the forthcoming Easter celebrations in the state.

Area of responsibilities (AoR) include, recreational centers, markets, motor parks, worship centres as well as other Critical National, State, and Local Government Assets and Infrastructure.

Tactical and specialized units, including the Agro Rangers Team, Armed Squad, Female Strike Force, Rapid Tactical Squad, Anti-Vandalism Squad, Chemical Biological Radiological Nuclear Explosives (CBRNE) Unit, Counter-Terrorism Unit, and Disaster Management Unit, are to be deployed to public spaces and strategic areas prone to criminal activities.

The deployment of specialised tactical units and intelligence operatives, is aimed at strengthening security and ensuring a peaceful festive period within the state.

In line with the Commandant directive, Area Commanders and Divisional officers are to intensify surveillance and visibility patrol across flashpoints in their area of responsibilities by synergising with sister agencies in information gathering and sharing.

For effective operations, operational kits ranging from body armour, helmets, rain coat, reflective jackets, kneel guard, and other items were distributed to personnel

The Commandant also urged officers and men to be committed, vigilant, and professional, while respecting citizens' fundamental rights. Strict observance of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), Rules of Engagement (ROE), and Service Orders (SO) must be obeyed in the discharge of their duties.

Commandant Ibiloye extends warm greetings to Christian faithful and urge them to embrace the virtues of love and peaceful coexistence. He encoyraged members of the public to remain resolute, law abiding and vigilant during and after the celebration

LEGISLATIVE ARM OF ONDO STATE FORGES PARTNERSHIP WITH NSCDC ON SAFE SCHOOL

The Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly , Rt. Hon Olamide Oladiji has assured the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) of his team's readiness to support the Safe School Initiative through collaboration with the three arms of government in the state..

This assurance was made during a courtesy visit by the Safe School Response Coordination Centre (SSRCC) team of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), NSCDC Ondo State Command , on the 10th of March, 2026.

The team led by DCC Folasade Olakanse brought greetings from the State Commandant, CC Oluyemi Ibiloye. She appreciated the Honourable Speaker for granting the team the opportunity for the visit despite his busy schedule. She emphasized that the Centre is ready to collaborate with relevant stakeholders in order to ensure the success of the Safe School Initiative across the state.

The coordinator further explained that the National Safe School Response Coordination Centre (NSSRCC) is saddled with the responsibility of providing safety and security in schools across the country.

She narrated the unfortunate incident of the Chibok Girls abduction in 2014, which prompted the Federal Government to launch the Safe School Initiative in the same year as a proactive measure to strengthen security in schools and prevent similar occurrences.

She therefore solicited the support of the Honourable Speaker and the Ondo State House of Assembly in ensuring the successful implementation of the Safe School Initiative within the state.

In his response, the Honourable Speaker appreciated the newly appointed Coordinator of the Safe School Response Coordination Centre DCC Olakanse Folasade for her dedication, commitment, and passion towards the project. He warmly welcomed the team from the SSRCC, NSCDC Ondo State Command, and commended their efforts in promoting safety in schools.

The Speaker assured the team of his readiness to support the Safe School Initiative through collaboration with the three arms of government in Ondo State. He stressed that the issue of security cannot be overemphasized and noted that the initiative will significantly help in reducing security challenges and social vices within schools and the larger society.

Present at the meeting were the Honourable Speaker, the Deputy Speaker, the Clerk of the House, the Deputy Clerk, and some distinguished Honourable Members of the House.

NSCDC Ondo Solidifies Bond with FUTA on Safe School Protocol

In line with the Corps mandate on school safety, the Deputy Commandant of Corps, Olakanse Folasade Olubunmi, Head of the Safe School Unit, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Ondo State Command, Akure, and her team paid a working visit to the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology (FUTA), Akure, Prof. Adenike Oladiji, on Monday, 9th March 2026.

The visit was aimed at strengthening and restructuring the security architecture within the university in order to ensure a conducive learning environment and a safe space for students.

During the meeting, DCC Folasade emphasized the importance of intelligence gathering, noting that the Corps remains committed to ensuring safety within communities, schools, and critical infrastructure across the State. She further stated that the Safe School Unit and the Corps at large look forward to deepening their partnership and strengthening collaboration with the university.

In her response, the Vice Chancellor appreciated and warmly welcomed DCC Folasade and her team. She noted that, so far, the university and the State have been relatively free from major security challenges.

The Vice Chancellor assured the delegates of the university’s willingness to support the initiative and requested the deployment of personnel to enhance security within the campus, particularly at strategic locations.

She concluded by stating, “If the community is safe, everybody is safe.”

Earlier, the safe school team had an interface with the Dean of Student Affairs, Prof. David Oke, where the importance of the Unit at both the National and state levels was emphasized.

ODSG DONATES VEHICLE TO NSCDC

Ondo State Governor, Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, on Friday, commissioned 10 patrol vehicles for security agencies.

Governor Aiyedatiwa revealed that Sunbeth Global Concept, led by Olasunkanmi Owoeye, had donated 10 Toyota Hilux high-grade vehicles to bolster security operations in the state.

The vehicles were deployed to the police, NSCDC , the Army, the Air Force, Airport services, and the Anti-land-grabbing task force.

While receiving the vehicle on behalf of the command, Commandant Ibiloye expressed appreciation to the governor and pledge his commitment to improving the security of the state in collaboration with other sister agencies.

The state government has donated 7 Toyota Hilux vans to the command since the resumption of Commandant Oluyemi Ibiloye.

NSCDC ONDO COMMEMORATES 2026 INTERNATIONAL CIVIL DEFENCE DAY WITH ANNIVERSARY LECTURE AND MEDICAL OUTREACH CALLING FOR A HOLISTIC APPROACH TO SECURITY & DISASTER MITIGATION

The State Commandant, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Ondo State Command, CC Oluyemi Ibiloye JP, has disclosed that Civil defenders are the first line of defense against environmental risk which are silent threats that can destabilise a society just as quickly as any physical conflict.

The Commandant made this known at the annual lecture marking the 2026 International Civil Defence Day Celebration held at the state headquarters, Akure.

Commandant Ibiloye calls for a holistic view of security by treating ecological assets as national assets and being proactive in disaster mitigation before they evolve into a humanitarian crisis.

He charged officers of the command to embody the excellence seen at the national level. Noting that a resilient and sustainable future requires intellectual rigour, synergy, and integrity.

"As we celebrate this ICDO day, let us reflect on the legacy we are building. Let us go forth, not just as officers of the law, but as architects of a safer, greener, and more resilient Nigeria, " the Commandant said.

The event themed, managing environmental risk for a resilient and sustainable future, featured a medical outreach for personnel by the medical team and environmental risk sensitization by the command disaster unit.
