NSCDC, ODCCPA to Establish Joint Enforcement Framework in Ondo
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Ondo State Command, and the Ondo State Competition and Consumer Protection Agency (ODCCPA) have agreed to establish a structured framework for joint sensitisation, enforcement and operational collaboration.
The agreement was reached when the Executive Chairman of the Ondo State Competition and Consumer Protection Agency, Mr. Oluyemi Fasipe paid a courtesy visit to the State Commandant of the NSCDC, Commandant Oluyemi Joshua Ibiloye, JP, at the Command Headquarters.
The visit was aimed at exploring areas of collaboration between the two agencies, particularly in strengthening consumer protection, promoting fair competition, and ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations across the state.
The ODCCPA is saddled with the responsibility of promoting fair competition, protecting consumers from unfair and harmful business practices, and ensuring that businesses comply with applicable competition and consumer protection requirements.
Speaking during the visit, Mr. Fasipe solicited the support of the NSCDC during enforcement operations, stressing the need for adequate security arrangements to protect officers and ensure the smooth ex*****on of the Agency's mandate.
He said, “We do not want our officers entering the field without adequate preparation, particularly in situations where there may be resistance or security risks. Our expectation is that when consumer protection matters require security support, there will be an established channel for collaboration.”
Responding, Commandant Ibiloye assured the Executive Chairman and his team of the readiness of the NSCDC to provide the necessary operational support within the limits of its mandate.
The Commandant, however, emphasised the importance of a clear understanding of the legal and operational framework guiding the Agency's activities. He therefore requested that a copy of the Act establish the ODCCPA be submitted to the Command's Legal Unit for review.
According to him, this would enable the command to properly understand the agency's statutory mandate, enforcement powers, and areas where security intervention may be required.
Commandant Ibiloye noted that effective inter-agency collaboration remains critical to achieving a safer, more orderly and economically secure environment, stressing that the NSCDC would continue to strengthen partnerships with relevant government institutions in the interest of public safety and good governance.
The meeting ended with both parties expressing commitment to developing a sustainable framework for collaboration, particularly in the areas of sensitisation, intelligence sharing, enforcement support, and public awareness.
