CBN Akure Branch Commissions 2026 CSR Project in Irese Community
****As ODIRS, Community Leaders Hail CBN Akure Branch for Impactful CSR Initiative****
Staff and members of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Akure Branch, on Thursday commissioned a solar-powered borehole project in Irese Community as part of its 2026 Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative aimed at improving access to clean and sustainable water supply for residents.
The commissioning ceremony, held on May 14, 2026, attracted dignitaries, community leaders, government officials, and residents, all of whom commended the initiative as a major contribution to the development and well-being of the people of Irese.
Speaking during the event, the Acting Branch Controller of the CBN Akure Branch, Mr. Nwannunu Kennedy, expressed gratitude to God for the successful completion of the project and described the borehole as part of the branch’s commitment to giving back to society through meaningful and people-oriented CSR initiatives.
According to him, the solar-powered borehole was conceived to provide lasting relief, renewed hope, dignity, and improved well-being for members of the community through sustainable access to clean water.
Mr. Kennedy appreciated the Olurese of Irese Land, Oba Ahmed Destiny Saka, for welcoming the initiative and granting approval for the project, which he noted had now become a reality.
He also commended members and staff of the CBN Akure Branch for their commitment and cooperation towards the successful ex*****on of the project, adding that the initiative was funded through personal contributions from staff members.
The Acting Branch Controller explained that the borehole project was not the first CSR intervention undertaken by the branch, noting that several communities had previously benefited from similar initiatives.
He further appreciated the Chairman of Ifedore Local Government Area for providing an enabling environment for the ex*****on of the project.
Representing the Executive Chairman of the Ondo State Internal Revenue Service (ODIRS), Mr. Bayo Rojugbokan, the Director of Finance and Accounts, Mr. Olusanya Adedipe, described the gesture by members and staff of the CBN Akure Branch as laudable and impactful.
Mr. Adedipe, who disclosed that his mother hails from Irese, said it was a privilege to return home for such a meaningful project, stressing that access to clean water and other essential amenities remains critical to improving the quality of life of the people.
He noted that ODIRS also engages in community-based CSR initiatives, including road grading projects and installation of solar-powered streetlights, adding that the agency is committed not only to revenue generation but also to giving back to society.
He urged individuals and organizations to emulate such interventions, stating that collective contributions from stakeholders would accelerate grassroots development.
In his remarks, the traditional ruler and host of the event, Oba Ahmed Destiny Saka, appreciated members and staff of the CBN Akure Branch for choosing Irese Community as the beneficiary of the project.
The monarch described the solar-powered borehole as a symbol of technological advancement and community development and prayed for greater achievements and divine blessings for everyone involved in the initiative.
Also speaking, the Chairman of Ifedore Local Government, Hon. Oladipupo Ajibola, represented by the Local Government Secretary, Barr. Akinseye Collins, commended the CBN Akure Branch for complementing government efforts in providing essential amenities for the people.
He acknowledged that government alone could not meet all societal needs and assured the community that the local government would continue to explore additional ways of supporting the development of Irese Community.
Dignitaries present at the event included the Olurese of Irese Land, Oba Ahmed Destiny Saka, the Acting Branch Controller of the CBN Akure Branch, Mr. Nwannunu Kennedy, representatives of the Ifedore Local Government Chairman, the Director of Finance and Accounts of ODIRS, Mr. Olusanya Adedipe, members of the CBN Akure Branch CSR Committee, community chiefs, women, youths, and other stakeholders.
