Today, I represented His Excellency, the Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. (Elder) Sheriff Oborevwori, accompanied by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Peace Building and Conflict Resolution, Chief Edwin Uzor, at the 59th Asaba Massacre Memorial Ceremony in Ogwa Ukwu Ahaha (Asaba).

The memorial marks the tragic incident of October 1967, when hundreds of men and sons of Asaba were massacred in cold blood by federal troops — one of the most documented atrocities of the Nigerian Civil War.

Today's event was particularly significant as the people of Asaba preached peace and demonstrated forgiveness towards those who carried out that dastardly act, with the presence of a surviving officer's son at the Ogwa-Ukwu Ahaba.

On behalf of His Excellency, I commended the people of Asaba, especially the Asagba of Asaba, His Royal Majesty Prof. Epiphany Chigbogu Azinge, for sustaining the message of peace in this year's memorial, and assured them of the State Government's continued support and solidarity.

Today I played host to a team from the Nigerian Army Headquarters, Abuja, who are in the state on an advocacy and sensitisation exercise for the 92nd Army Regular Recruitment Exercise for Trades Men and Women

I expressed the state government's determination to meet its quota in the ongoing Nigerian Army recruitment exercise for the 92nd Regular Recruits Intake.

I noted that the state had consistently met its recruitment quota in previous years and was equally taking steps to achieve the same feat this year, despite the increase in the state's allocation to 1000 slots.

Earlier this evening, alongside the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Hon. Johnson Erijo; the Permanent Secretary, Office of the Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Lucky Nkemachor; the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Women Affairs and Community Development, Mrs. Kevwe Agas; the Executive Secretary, State Pensions Bureau, Mr. Lawson Efenudu, and others, paid a condolence visit to the family of the late Mr. Unity Adeda in Asaba on behalf of the State Government.

Indeed, the Government is in mourning with the family, the Civil Service, and the entire State, as the deceased was a senior public servant who contributed immensely to the State Public Service.

On behalf of the State Government, I reassured the family of the deceased that Government will do everything possible to ensure that justice prevails.

Our prayers and thoughts are with the entire family in this moment of grief.
