Big Blow for Atiku in Adamawa: Fintiri joins APC, making Tinubu's party a juggernaut in the state

Adamawa Governor Umaru Fintiri joins the All Progressives Congress, APC, taking away Abubakar Atiku's entire home base to President Tinubu's party.

Governor Fintiri announced his decision in a broadcast on Friday.

He also announced that he has not left his former party, the PDP, alone. All members of his cabinet, lawmakers and other PDP officials in the state moved with him to the APC, thus fortifying the APC's advantage and presence in the state.

Governor Fintiri said he defected in the “developmental interest” of the people of Adamawa State.

What this means for Atiku:
With the presidential election less than a year away, Fintiri's defection is surely a big blow to veteran presidential runner Atiku Abubakar. His ADC is largely unknown in the state. He certainly needs to reassess his ambition, as his governor has turned the APC into an Adamawa juggernaut.

If a politician is not so popular at home, he has no business selling his candidacy to outsiders. The time is nigh for Atiku to consider retiring from politics and going to his second home in Dubai.

The 2026 Elections bill sign in to law

18/02/2026

After every election cycle, we owe Nigerians an honest look at what worked and what must work better. That is how serious democracies behave, and our laws must grow with experience.

Today, I signed the final amendments to the 2022 Electoral Act into law.

These amendments are not about politics. They are about process. They are about closing gaps, strengthening procedures, and providing greater clarity to those who conduct and participate in our elections.

When citizens walk into a polling unit, they must do so with confidence. When results are declared, they must be trusted. That confidence is built deliberately, and not by chance.

I sincerely thank the National Assembly for its cooperation and sense of national responsibility in bringing this process to a successful conclusion. Our responsibility remains to keep improving the system so that the people’s will is expressed clearly, peacefully, and credibly.

The work of strengthening our democracy continues, and we shall not relent.

STATEHOUSE PRESS RELEASE

KANO MARKET FIRE: PRESIDENT TINUBU SYMPATHISES WITH TRADERS; ORDERS COMPREHENSIVE INVESTIGATION

President Bola Tinubu has commiserated with traders and people of Kano State over the devastating fire outbreak at Kano's Singer Market over the weekend.

The fire, which started on Saturday evening, raged into Sunday morning, causing significant damage to the food market.

President Tinubu, who had earlier reached out to Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to obtain a situation report on the fire, described the incident as tragic.

The President was particularly alarmed that the latest incident came less than two weeks after another fire destroyed dozens of shops and property at the same market.

President Tinubu directed a comprehensive investigation into the causes of the market fires, which often leave traders in despair.

AS THE NAHCON SEAT REMAINS VACANT

Following the recent resignation of the Director at the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), we respectfully appeal to the Federal Government to consider capable and experienced individuals from Plateau State for this important national responsibility.

Under the leadership of the former Executive Secretary of the Plateau State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board during the APC administration, the Board witnessed remarkable reforms, improved pilgrims’ welfare, operational efficiency, and enhanced coordination. His tenure was marked by transparency, discipline, and measurable achievements that elevated the reputation of Plateau State in Hajj administration.

Barrister Auwalu Abdullahi is a seasoned legal practitioner and a scholar of Islamic studies, he combines professional competence with deep understanding of the spiritual and administrative responsibilities required in managing Hajj affairs. His track record demonstrates capacity, integrity, and national outlook.

The Muslim community in Jos and Plateau State has consistently demonstrated unwavering support and loyalty to the APC-led government since 2015. We believe that inclusive leadership strengthens national unity. Recognizing qualified individuals from our state for federal appointments will not only reward commitment but also deepen the sense of belonging among our people.

We humbly urge the Federal Government to consider Plateau State in this appointment and allow one of our most experienced sons to serve the nation at a higher level.

Plateau stands ready. Plateau is prepared. Plateau is deserving.
