The Management and Staff of the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) on Monday, June 22, 2026, celebrated the Chief Medical Director, Prof. Idia N. Ize-Iyamu, with a heartfelt surprise ceremony in commemoration of her birthday, observed on Sunday, June 21, 2026.

The celebration was organized in recognition of her visionary leadership, unwavering commitment to excellence, and remarkable dedication to advancing quality healthcare, fostering institutional growth, and promoting the welfare of staff and patients alike.

The event brought together members of the hospital management and staff, who expressed their appreciation for the Chief Medical Director's exemplary service and the positive impact of her leadership on the institution.

In her response, an emotional Prof. Mrs. Idia N. Ize-Iyamu expressed profound gratitude for the thoughtful gesture and the overwhelming show of love from the UBTH family.

"There are some actions you would see and be sure there is love, and today is one of those moments. I see all of you, and I appreciate every effort you have made to make this day a memorable one for me. I sincerely thank the management for this great honour. This is a surprise I never expected. God designed it for a purpose that I would be here today to celebrate this day with all of us. From the bottom of my heart, I am truly grateful."

The Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee (CMAC), Dr. Emmanuel Osaigbovo, in his remarks, on behalf of the management and staff of the institution, appreciated the Chief Medical Director for her unwavering dedication and exceptional leadership in steering the affairs of the hospital.

He particularly commended her for leveraging her leadership, influence, and unwavering commitment to drive meaningful progress across the institution, describing her as a leader who consistently prioritizes the growth and development of UBTH.

Acknowledging her hard work, and selfless service, the CMAC noted that her vision and determination have continued to inspire staff and strengthen the hospital's pursuit of excellence.

While wishing her many more years of impactful leadership, long life, and prosperity, he prayed that God would continue to grant her greater wisdom, strength, abundant grace, and remarkable increase in every aspect of her life, leading her from one level of growth and success to another.

One of the highlights of the celebration was the symbolic cake-cutting ceremony, which was done at the spelling of '𝗚𝗿𝗮𝗰𝗲,' signifying the abundant grace of God that has continually guided and sustained her journey in leadership and service.

The joyous occasion was filled with goodwill, heartfelt prayers, warm wishes, smiles, laughter, and moments of celebration as the UBTH community honoured a leader whose dedication, vision, and passion continue to inspire excellence across the institution.

Despite creating several goal-scoring opportunities, neither team could find the decisive breakthrough as missed chances and solid defensive performances kept the contest finely poised.

With the deadlock unbroken at the end of regulation time, the championship was decided via a penalty shootout.

Porters FC held their composure from the spot to secure a 𝟱-𝟰 victory, sealing the title and bringing an exciting football competition to a memorable conclusion.

𝗧𝗛𝗜𝗥𝗗 𝗣𝗟𝗔𝗖𝗘 𝗣𝗟𝗔𝗬𝗢𝗙𝗙 𝗥𝗘𝗖𝗔𝗣 ⚽🥉

The battle for third place in the football competition of the 5th Edition of the UBTH Interdepartmental and Interprofessional Games Festival delivered goals, intensity, and determination as 𝗦𝗲𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗙𝗖 took on 𝗗𝗼𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘀 𝗙𝗖 at the UBTH Sports Complex.

Security FC got off to a flying start, opening the scoring as early as the 6th minute and maintaining their attacking momentum throughout the first half. Three additional goals followed before the break, giving Security FC a commanding 𝟒-𝟎 lead at halftime. Despite creating several promising opportunities, Doctors FC were unable to convert their chances in the opening half.

The second half produced four more goals, with both teams finding the back of the net twice. Doctors FC showed resilience and fought hard to reduce the deficit, but Security FC remained in control to see out the game.

At the final whistle, Security FC emerged victorious with a 𝟔-𝟐 win, securing third place in the football competition of the 5th Edition of the UBTH Interdepartmental and Interprofessional Games Festival.

The theme for this year’s World Autistic Pride Day, “𝗔𝗰𝗰𝗲𝗽𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲, 𝗜𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗔𝘂𝘁𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝗜𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝘁𝘆,” reminds us that true inclusion goes beyond awareness. It means recognizing and respecting autistic people for who they are, supporting their rights, amplifying their voices, and creating environments where they can thrive without having to hide their identity.
