EIRS SEEKS POLICE PARTNERSHIP TO BOOST REVENUE COLLECTION, SECURITY IN EDO STATE
The Edo State Internal Revenue Service EIRS has sought partnership with the Edo State Police Command to enhance revenue collection and guarantee the safety of tax officials across the state.
The management of the EIRS, led by the Executive Chairman Mr. John Odior FCA, ACTI, along side the Executive Director, MDA Services, Hon (Engr) Jackson Eribo ACTI, Secretary to the Revenue Service, Mr. Eghosa Odia-Brown FCA, ACTI and Head, Corporate Communications & Taxpayers Enlightenment Service, Mr. Courage Eboigbe ACTI on Friday 25th September , 2026 paid a courtesy visit to the Commissioner of Police, Edo State Command, CP Patrick Daaor, to strengthen collaboration and outline strategies for securing tax administration operations.
Speaking during the visit, Mr. Odior emphasized the vital role of police's support in maintaining a secured environment for citizens of the state inclusive of revenue officials to enable them carry out their statutory duties of tax assessment, enforcement, and collection.
He highlighted the challenge posed by non-state actors operating illegally in the state who illegally collect revenue and intimidate motorists despite existing state bans on unauthorized collections.
According to Mr. Odior "When the society is not safe, we cannot generate revenue." "And when revenue is not coming in, the state becomes bankrupt. When the state is bankrupt, there will be no funds for the government to meet the needs of the people and fulfill its social contract with the citizens."
The EC further informed the Commissioner of Police of the recently passed Edo State Revenue Consolidation Account Law which he said was aimed at harmonizing all revenue into a single Treasury account.
In response, the Commissioner of Police CP Patrick Dapo reaffirmed the Command's commitment to supporting the EIRS. He assured the Revenue Service of close collaboration.
The strategic partnership is expected to enhance information sharing, bolster security for tax personnel, and curb illegal tax collection, thereby boosting state revenue generation and tax compliance across Edo State.
