FRSC Calls for Shared Partnership with Road Users to End Road Crashes

By Nasiru Ibrahim

The Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, has called on motorists and other road users to make road safety a shared responsibility by obeying traffic regulations and adopting safe road-use practices.

This is part of the Corps sensitisation campaign and activities marking the 2026 International Customer Service Week Stakeholders' Forum with the theme“Extra Mile: Our Shared Responsibility for Safer Roads and Better Service Delivery."

The campaign held at the Yakari Express Corporation Head Office in Bauchi, is aimed at education motorists and passengers on their shared responsibilities for safer road-use.

Speaking, the Zonal Commanding Officer, FRSC Zone RS12 Headquarters, Bauchi, Assistant Corps Marshal, ACM Leye Adegboyega, said the mandate of the FRSC goes beyond traffic enforcement to include road safety education, crash prevention, rescue operations, traffic management and public enlightenment.

ACM Adegboyega urged motorists to obey traffic rules, ensure their vehicles are properly maintained for safe driving and cooperate with road safety personnel at all times.

Speaking with journalists after the programme, the Bauchi Sector Commander of the FRSC, Corps Commander, CC Caleb Luka, expressed satisfaction with the cordial relationship between the Corps and the management and drivers of Yakari Express.

Caleb Luka commended the company for cooperating with the Corp, calling for sustained partnership through regular engagements, compliance with safety regulations and responsible driving.

He emphasised the need for drivers to see road safety officials as partners in protecting lives, not just enforcement officers.

The State Corp Commander identified speeding, overloading and reckless driving by some commercial and tipper-truck drivers as major road safety concerns, particularly along the Jos-Bauchi Expressway, urging them to exercise patience, avoid dangerous driving practices and respect other road users to reduce road traffic crashes.

SUPER EAGLES HOLD RUSSIA TO THRILLING 3–3 DRAW

Nigeria’s Super Eagles have played out an entertaining 3–3 draw with Russia in an international friendly, recovering from a two-goal deficit to avoid another defeat.

It was Eric Chelle’s men who opened the scoring, with returning forward Kelechi Iheanacho marking his comeback to the national team with a well-taken long-range effort.

Russia, however, responded strongly and gradually took control of the encounter. Lechi Sadulaev and Matvey Kislyak scored to put the hosts ahead before Aleksei Miranchuk extended Russia’s advantage after the restart.

The Super Eagles refused to surrender and mounted a determined fightback.

Peter Edokpolor reduced the deficit before Akor Adams completed Nigeria’s comeback with the equalising goal, ensuring the three-time African champions secured a share of the spoils.

The result ends in a 3–3 draw, with Nigeria showing considerable resilience to come back from two goals down.

For coach Eric Chelle, the performance provides positives from the Eagles’ attacking response, while the three goals conceded will remain an area requiring attention as preparations continue for upcoming competitive fixtures.

FULL-TIME: Russia 3–3 Nigeria. 🇷🇺🤝🇳🇬

🚨 BREAKING: CRISTIANO RONALDO CONFIRMS HE IS NOT RETIRING FROM PORTUGAL 🇵🇹

Cristiano Ronaldo has broken his silence over the recent controversy surrounding his future with the Portuguese national team, making it clear that he has no intention of retiring and remains committed to representing Portugal.

In a detailed statement, Ronaldo explained what happened during the latest national team camp:

«“As promised, I want to explain directly what happened at the last national team camp.»

«After the World Cup, the FPF President asked me to reconsider my decision to leave and also sought my opinion on the current coach. I told him that I believed he was the right choice.»

«In August, the coach told me that I was fundamental to his project and that I would play in the first and last games. He suggested that I should stay behind for the away matches, but I refused. A captain does not stay at home. Simão Coutinho was present and witnessed that conversation.»

«On the day of the Norway game, the coach asked whether I was ready to play 30 minutes. Although that was not part of the original plan, I agreed. I warmed up from half-time but was never called upon. He had broken his word.»

«I accept responsibility for not greeting the fans after the match, and I apologise for that.»

«Forty-eight hours later, with Coutinho present, we agreed that the coach would explain the situation honestly in the press room: that the plan had been his, that I had never asked for playing time, and that making me warm up without eventually using me was a mistake. He asked me for a hug and gave me his word. I accepted a short document summarising what we had discussed.»

«That same morning, I told both the President and the coach that if they no longer wanted me, they should simply tell me. Both said no.»

«However, the press conference was completely different from what we had agreed. I heard comments that I felt were an attack on me, and I did not deserve that. It was the second time my word had been broken.»

«In almost 25 years, I have never interfered in a coach’s technical decisions. But when my word is broken, I cannot remain in that environment.»

«I apologise to my teammates for leaving. The responsibility is entirely mine. The FPF should punish me without mitigating circumstances. As captain, I believe that should be considered an aggravating factor.»

«There has been talk of farewell matches, but I learned from a very young age, especially when I had nothing, that nobody gives you anything for free. For me, playing for the national team has always been about competing.»

«When my father died, I stayed with the national team until the next match was over. I did that for my country.»

«If I am fit, after serving my suspension, I will be available, as always, to compete and win for Portugal.»

«This is the absolute truth.”»
🇵🇹 Ronaldo’s message is therefore clear: he is not retiring from international football. Despite the dispute with the coach and the recent controversy, the Portugal captain says he remains available and determined to compete for his country.

Cristiano Ronaldo wants to finish his Portugal career on the pitch competing, fighting and winning, rather than simply receiving a farewell.

FRANK OLIZE: THE VOICE THAT DEFINED SUNDAY NIGHTS

There was a time when Sunday nights in Nigeria had a special feeling.

Before smartphones, social media and the endless stream of digital entertainment, families gathered around their television sets, waiting for a programme that had become part of the Sunday-night routine—NTA’s Newsline.

And when that familiar voice came through the television, millions of Nigerians knew it was time to listen.

“Do you know where your children are?”

The voice belonged to Frank Olize, one of the most distinctive and memorable broadcasters in the history of Nigerian television.

Born in Delta State, Olize rose through the ranks of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) and became widely known as the presenter of Newsline, particularly during the 1980s and early 1990s.

But Frank Olize was more than a television presenter. He was a storyteller.

He had a rare ability to take a story and make the audience feel part of it. Whether the subject was unusual, humorous, dramatic, mysterious or deeply emotional, Olize knew how to hold the attention of his viewers.

His calm voice, distinctive delivery and natural command of the screen made him instantly recognisable.

For many Nigerians, Newsline was not simply a television programme. It was a Sunday-night appointment.

Families would settle down in front of the television, eager to discover the unusual, fascinating and sometimes unbelievable stories of the week. Olize had a way of presenting these stories that made viewers laugh, reflect and, at times, become deeply emotional.

That was the magic of Frank Olize.

Under his presentation, Newsline became what many Nigerians fondly remember as their “Sunday-Sunday tonic.” He demonstrated that television broadcasting was not just about reading information; it was about connecting with people, telling stories and creating emotion.

At the height of his career, Frank Olize had become a household name. His voice was familiar in homes across the country, and his presentation style became part of the identity of Newsline itself.

Then, rather quietly, he left the television screen.

Olize eventually departed from NTA and withdrew from the public spotlight, later relocating abroad. Because his departure was so quiet, his absence generated speculation, including rumours that the legendary broadcaster had died.

Years later, reports of his appearance at his daughter's wedding in Dubai reminded many Nigerians that the man behind that unforgettable voice had simply chosen a much quieter life away from the cameras.

Today, decades after he left the screen, Frank Olize remains a cherished name in Nigerian broadcasting.

For those who watched him, remembering Frank Olize is more than remembering a broadcaster. It is remembering an era—an era when television brought families together, when Sunday nights had their own rhythm, and when a single programme could capture the attention of an entire nation.

Frank Olize showed us that a great broadcaster does not merely deliver information.

A great broadcaster tells stories.
A great broadcaster creates emotion.
And a great broadcaster leaves a lasting memory.

Frank Olize did all three.

For an entire generation, Sunday night was not complete without Newsline. And for many of those viewers, Newsline will always be remembered with the voice and personality of the man who made it special.

Even today, his name can take many Nigerians back to those quiet Sunday evenings in front of the television.

And somewhere in the memory of that generation, one familiar question still seems to echo:

«“Do you know where your children are?”»

Frank Olize the broadcaster, the storyteller, the voice of Sunday nights, and a true legend of Nigerian television.
