YOBE STATE SECRETARIAT MARKS NYSC AT 53 ANNIVERSARY WITH COLOURFUL RALLY
As part of the activities marking the NYSC at 53 anniversary, Corps Members and staff of the Secretariat participated in a colourful rally through Damaturu metropolis.
In his address to kickstart the rally, the State Coordinator, Mr Okochi Okpara emphasized on the continued relevance of the National Youth Service Corps, from inception till date.
Speaking further, the State Coordinator highlighted the strategic growth and expansion of the Scheme, from national unity and integration at inception, to national development.
The NYSC Band provided the music that powered the rally, while a symbolic anniversary cake was cut at the end of the programme.

TEARS, TRIUMPH, AND HOPE: BATCH A STREAM II BOWS OUT IN AN EMOTIONAL PASSING-OUT
Emotions ran high as the 2025 Batch A Stream II corps members gathered for their Passing-Out Parade, marking the completion of the final cardinal programme of the National Youth Service Corps and the successful end of their service year. The atmosphere reflected a blend of joy, gratitude, nostalgia, and hope as corps members prepared to transition into another phase of life after months of service to the nation.
Addressing the outgoing corps members, the NYSC Yobe State Coordinator, Mr. Okochi Okpara, reflected on their journey through the Scheme—from the Orientation Course to the Place of Primary Assignment (PPA), Community Development Service (CDS), and finally the Passing-Out Parade. He commended them for their resilience, sacrifices, and contributions to nation-building, describing the batch as unique since no corps member was penalized with extension of service, a feat he attributed to their discipline, punctuality, and commitment. According to him, this distinguished them as one of the best sets of corps members to have served in the state.
In a deeply reflective and fatherly tone, the State Coordinator emphasized the importance of self-reliance and practical skills, urging corps members to embrace entrepreneurship and vocational training. According to him, “Learn skills to survive and sustain your life, or struggle to see tomorrow.” He advised them to remain disciplined, hardworking, and purposeful while also being security conscious, specifically cautioning them against travelling through the Biu–Maiduguri and Biu–Yola roads due to safety concerns.
On behalf of the Director General and the entire management of the NYSC, Mr. Okpara prayed for journey mercies, success, and fulfilment in life, wishing them safe travels and rewarding futures. The ceremony ended on an emotional note as corps members exchanged farewells, reflected on friendships built, challenges overcome, and memories created throughout their service year.

BUILDING A STRONG WORKFORCE: YOBE NYSC INDUCTS NEWLY RECRUITED STAFF
The NYSC Yobe State Secretariat on 20th May, 2026, conducted an induction programme for newly recruited staff aimed at acquainting them with the structure, operations, responsibilities, and ethical expectations of the Scheme.
The programme commenced with opening remarks by the State Coordinator, Mr. Okochi Okpara, who warmly welcomed the newly recruited staff into the service. In his address, he emphasized the importance of discipline, professionalism, and strict adherence to the rules and regulations guiding the Scheme. He also stressed the need for respect for constituted authority and colleagues, commitment to duty, accountability in service delivery, and upholding the code of conduct of the organization at all times. He encouraged the newly employed staff to remain hardworking, dedicated, and loyal in the discharge of their responsibilities.
As part of the induction exercise, Heads of Branches delivered detailed presentations on the functions, responsibilities, and operational procedures of their respective departments. The sessions provided participants with a clearer understanding of the structure and workflow of the Scheme, while also enlightening them on inter-branch collaboration, reporting procedures, official communication channels, and expectations from staff members.
The interactive session allowed participants to ask questions and seek clarification on issues relating to workplace conduct and assigned responsibilities. In his closing remarks, the State Coordinator appreciated the Branch Heads and participants for contributing to the success of the programme. He reiterated the importance of punctuality, discipline, teamwork, integrity, and dedication to duty, urging the newly recruited staff to apply the knowledge gained in promoting effective and efficient service delivery within the Scheme.

HEALTH IS WEALTH: HIRD OUTREACH BRINGS RELIEF TO GARIN DALA COMMUNITY
The second quarter of the Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers (HIRD) was successfully carried out at Garin Dala in Potiskum Local Government Area of Yobe State, bringing essential healthcare services closer to rural residents.
The outreach was attended by key stakeholders including the district head, the State Coordinator, the Head of CDS, the Zonal Inspector, all Local Government Inspectors within the zone, and other NYSC officials. The programme is an NYSC initiative designed to address the healthcare needs of rural communities and reduce preventable illnesses through free medical intervention.
In his remarks, the district head expressed appreciation and joy over the selection of his community, noting that the initiative has brought significant relief to residents. The State Coordinator, Mr. Okochi Okpara, stated that the community was selected based on identified pressing health needs, emphasizing that the goal of the programme is to use available professional expertise within the Scheme to solve community health challenges.
Medical services rendered during the outreach included tests for malaria, blood pressure, diabetes, and hepatitis. Patients also received free consultations and medications across different categories. A total of 280 patients were attended to, comprising 150 females and 130 males.
The atmosphere was filled with appreciation and excitement as both residents and officials commended the success of the outreach and the impact of the NYSC health intervention in the community.

ANTICIPATION, ZEAL, AND EMOTION LIGHT UP DAZIGAU AT PASSING-OUT PARADE
The 2026 Batch A Stream II Passing-Out Parade at the NYSC Orientation Camp in Dazigau, Nangere Local Government Area of Yobe State, was marked by excitement, reflection, and emotional moments as corps members formally concluded the orientation course and prepared to proceed to their various Places of Primary Assignment.
During the ceremony, the State Coordinator, Mr. Okochi Okpara, represented the Executive Governor of Yobe State, His Excellency Hon. Mai Mala Buni, and addressed the corps members on the expectations of the service year. He advised them to accept their postings wholeheartedly, remain diligent and punctual at their Places of Primary Assignment, and actively participate in off-camp Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) training programmes as a pathway to self-reliance and financial stability.
The State Coordinator further cautioned corps members against embarking on night and unnecessary journeys, urging them to remain security conscious and conduct themselves responsibly throughout the service year. He encouraged them to uphold the values of discipline, patriotism, and unity learned during the orientation exercise.
The passing-out parade reflected mixed emotions among corps members as friendships formed during camp activities gradually gave way to the realities of deployment and national service, bringing another memorable orientation exercise in Dazigau to a successful close.

DEBRIEFING SESSION ENDS DAZIGAU CAMP ON A REFLECTIVE AND FATHERLY NOTE
As part of activities marking the close of the 2026 Batch A Stream II Orientation Course in Dazigau, Nangere Local Government Area of Yobe State, the NYSC management conducted a debriefing session for corps members aimed at preparing them for life after camp and their transition to their various Places of Primary Assignment (PPA).
During the session, the State Coordinator, Mr. Okochi Okpara, advised corps members to accept their postings in good faith and warned against inducing rejection at their PPAs. He reminded them that corps members are entitled to local allowance and accommodation or payment in lieu from their employers. He further explained that relocation within the Scheme is free and should only follow approved official procedures.
The State Coordinator cautioned corps members against taking NYSC-related matters to social media, emphasizing that the Scheme has established channels for addressing complaints and grievances. He also warned them against criticizing the religion, culture, traditions, or political affairs of their host communities, urging them instead to maintain discipline, tolerance, and mutual respect throughout their service year.
Speaking further, Mr. Okpara encouraged corps members to manage their monthly allowance prudently and avoid unnecessary financial contributions during CDS activities. He advised them to embrace the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme as an alternative means of livelihood, noting that SAED trainers are available in all local government areas for continued off-camp training.
On security and welfare, he urged corps members to always obtain permission before travelling, avoid unnecessary journeys, and remain security conscious at all times. He reminded them that international travel approvals can only be granted by the Director General of the NYSC and informed them that they are entitled to free medical care in NHIS-accredited hospitals wherever they are posted.
In an emotional and fatherly farewell, the State Coordinator prayed for journey mercies and success for all corps members, describing them as one of the best sets he had ever worked with. He added that both he and the management of the Scheme would greatly miss them and encouraged them to serve the nation with pride, dedication, and integrity.
