On June 12, 2026, SpaceX's record-breaking Nasdaq debut pushed his net worth past $1 trillion for the first time in human history — briefly touching an estimated $1.5 trillion within days.

It didn't last. Tesla just had its worst trading day in over a year, with shares plunging more than 14% after an earnings report that left Wall Street unimpressed by the pace of its AI and robotaxi progress. That single day wiped $18.6 billion off Musk's fortune.

His net worth now sits at roughly $725-730 billion — still the highest on Earth by a massive margin, still hundreds of billions ahead of the world's second-richest person, but hundreds of billions below the trillion-dollar mark he briefly held.

He didn't lose the title of richest man alive. He lost the title of history's first trillionaire — in barely six weeks.

The world's richest man, Elon Musk, has made a bold prediction that money could become largely meaningless within the next decade as artificial intelligence and robotics transform the global economy beyond recognition.

Speaking in an interview with The Economist, Elon Musk argued that the sheer volume of goods and services that AI and robots will eventually produce will make traditional financial systems redundant.

"Money won't matter in 2036," he said. "If robots and AI are providing more goods and services than any human could consume, what do you need money for in that case?"

On concerns about mass unemployment sparked by AI, Musk said he expects the world to transition to what he described as "universal high income," where people maintain a high standard of living without depending on traditional employment.

He also weighed in on the AI race, saying China has a strong chance of leading the sector once it scales its computing capacity, pointing to impressive results Chinese technology companies have already achieved with comparatively limited resources.

Then she spread her wings.

"As hunger leaves some creatures," she said, "gratitude leaves with it."
