*Enugu 2023: When Arrogance Drives Ideology On A Mission For Self - Sabotage*

''Does it make sense to sabotage ourselves? Does it hold water to wreck the fluid course of our life? Is it consistent or reconcilable to commit self-sabotage by destroying wittingly our corporeal and sense of reasoning? These are the questions many people may ask as they are confronted with the schizophrenic dilemma on the point of difficult decision making, to be or no to be. Many seem to be aware of their problem. Many have decided to stop from tomorrow on. But when tomorrow and after tomorrow come many tend to let slip their vow and their self-sabotage goes on to rule their life. That has been the problem of Africa. We are the cause of our problem. We work against even our own progress. Our dissonant behavior transforms us into social losers or hopeless patsies and depresses us into the class of forlorn pariahs. Then we realize, as such, that self-handicapping makes no sense no matter how assuring they try to convince you, you can not be able to reverse yesterday but you start a new today. And that translate to the saying '' omaru taa - maru gboo''

Socrates is a Greek philosopher, who had a basic philosophy and dialectical style of debate, anchored on the pursuit of truth through questions, answers, and more questions. This had a lot of influence on Plato, who in 387 founded the Academy in Athens, which is often. described as the first European University. Socrates refused to accept payment for his teachings, maintaining that he had no positive knowledge to offer except the awareness of the need for more knowledge. He believed that ignorance was the only source of evil, and that it is improper to act out of ignorance or to accept moral instruction from those who have not proven their own wisdom.

Then, a German - born theoretical physicist, widely acknowledged to be one of the greatest physicists of all time and known for developing the theory of relativity, and as well made important contributions to the development of the theory of quantum mechanics. Note that Relativity and quantum mechanics are together the two pillars of modern physicist. Am talking about Albert Einstein, whose ideas altered humanity’s conception of reality and led to numerous inventions, from television to lasers. Einstein who is widely credited with saying, “The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, but expecting different results''.

While i have so much respect for the German - born theoretical physicist, i beg to differ a bit. For me, I don’t view that choice as insane, I do see it as a common trap that most of us fall into during our lives. Why? We’re humans. Human beings are creatures of routine. Even the most spontaneous among us stick to a lot of routines and habits in life, fearing the unknown. And it is important to note here that such mental state is common when one or group of people lacks the complete information about the subject matter, they prefer to stick with the statu squo while claiming to know it all or to be on on the path for the best but unknown to him or her that s/he on the mission for Self sabotage which its consequences spread from generation to generation and one will be forced to ask, why are we always the enemy of our own progress. The reason is simply because some certain group of selfish merchants want to continue to maintain their grip on power and play the god fatherism role and take control of our common resources without any meaningful project to show for it while claiming to be working for your eternal peace. Very laughable.

So for us as a people, we know that it is challenging to try different approaches to the problems in our life but i make bold to state here that there is no better time to begin to ask questions than now especially on the method by which we use to produce our leaders and is also important we begin to look at the link between leadership performance and means of choosing those leaders and the result won't be far from the fact that we have chosen archaic, weird and incomprehensible style of what we call zoning formula in place of competence.

This may also be the best time to begin to look at other state or other developed societies or regions that succeeded thru the practice of zoning, ofcourse non. So what is zoning? Where in this 21st century world that people will be shamelessly building issues where there is non because someone is giving you monthly tips and therefore you decide to justify unjustifiable act and sabotage your future and that of your unborn generation. What have we benefited from this so called zoning, tell your self the truth, are you ok with the way Enugu state is being managed, and if you are ok with it then, may your life and family be managed like Enugu state. What are we talking about? Is this not the best time to shift from dummy like human and begin to ask relevant questions like why this administration has not been able to utilise our common resources for our own good. Are you comfortable that even the Government House depend on water vendors for their source of water. What happened to the water pipes layed by previous administration. What happened to our roads in the state and why has this administration not been able to revamped or encourage even a single industry.

At a time like this, we should begin to ask ourselves, even as this administration seem to be the worst administration ever since the creation of Enugu state, What is then the chances that the person they will present to us will do better. What is the chances of the administration offering what they don’t have? Why and what exactly your reason to keep to the zoning? Are we better than other states not practicing zoning? These are pertinent questions we should be asking and not just sheepishily following people who can not prove their own wisdom. What then makes us the most intelligent animal. Even the much touted peace as the only reason for the zoning is just a mere coincidence and has nothing to do with the zoning because from time, The Wawa People are not known as violence people, talk of killing each other in the name of election. Is not in our culture. We are peaceful people by nature, so keep it there with your zoning. We should be more interested about the candidate's political antecedents and credentials.

For instance, if after 4 years of the next administration and you have an Enugu state where pipe borne water will be available for all, a state where its educational infrastructures especially the primary education will be the choice for all. What if after 4 years of the next administration come 2027 and you have an Enugu state connected by good road infrastructures and rails. What if then we have an Enugu state where our farm settlements will be well equipped with modern amenities like good roads and telecommunication network, including hospitals and good schools for our children irrespective of class or location. What if then, i mean after the 4 years of next administration we have a state with massive low cost and affordable housing and numerous possibilities and opportunities for self advancement especially for the youths. Or you think is not possible? Is very possible and not a rocket science. They cannot achieve this simply because they are irresponsible and didn't emerge by merit or popular votes but only represent his tribsmen and answerable to them and not you. That is the severe consequences of zoning. Now tell me, with all these in place after 4 years of the next administration, will you still be interested on the color or where the governor comes from. Because i know you wouldn't care any more whether the person is from East or West. So why are we deceiving ourselves promoting tribalism and beating drums for people who care nothing about your good. And i ask, what for?

My good people of Enugu state, this is the time to begin to look at the link between poor leadership performance and the style by which we choose to produce our leaders. And when you dig deeper, the painful result will raveal to you that, it is because we have chosen the unproductive zoning in place of competence and merit. How do we explain to our children that the only place they can see pipe borne water is only on cartoon or televisions in this 21st century. How do we answer the questions from our children that we prefer to pacify and appease these few elite than electing a competence leader who will advance our lives and that of our unborn generation and this explain why the state employment and even the few white elephant projects are tribalized and mere fantasy or what I can call here as Summer Cloud. Where do we go from here?

My people, if after more than two decades of the so called zoning and non of the administration deem it reasonable to revamp, build or attract 1 single industry then, we will need to critically check the sensibility and intention of any one who insist we must continue to do the same thing over and over again, and expecting a different results and mind you that 8 years is too much for trial and error. This is the time to change tactic and instead look for a competent hand to take the state to the next level and redefined democratic governance and that is the reason why everybody is looking towards the direction of Senator Ike Ekweremadu for a rescue mission and no one doubts his capabilities to turn the state around and note that as it stand now in the state and federal, the only quality of a politician needed to get the job done as enumerated above is vision and strong political will to take decisions and execute it in a complex situations and society like ours and do not be deceived by anyone, Senator (Prof) Ike Ekweremadu is the only candidate for now with the requisite qualification and capabilities to get the job done.

Forget about what anybody is telling you against Prof. Ike Ekweremadu and look at available fact and do some findings yourself. What is his offence and why is this state executive gang up against him? Do you think they are working for your good for themselves? Fact shows us that Senator Ike Ekweremadu remains the best representative in the east of the Niger, past and present. Even the people who have held higher positions, past and present, none is close to his political achievement and sagacity which stands towering not just in Enugu state politics but in Nigeria and Africa as a whole haven attained the position of the speaker of the ECOWAS PARLIAMENT with earth shaking achievements, so why do you think Ekweremadu won't do better in his own state after attracting numerous projects and personally funded and still funding a lot of life changing programs for the youths and the elderly which no one has replicated.

Again, I make bold to state here that the worst mistake we will make as a people will be to elect any of these house helps marauding as political appointees in the name of zoning, then be ready to waste another 8 years in the name of governance because from 2023 till the next four years will be moment of settlement to godfathers, then another four years will be time for himself and family members but you know what, Ekweremadu is not answerable to anybody and won't go beating about the bush because he knows and understand the path to excellence.

So you can now see that is because of greed and insatiable appetite for relevancy and eyes service, much of what occurs in political system especially in this part of the word which is illogical, crazy and serious assault on the the sensibility of The True Believers especially those who sees politics as a vehicle to address the soceital woes but unfortunately people like you who has been brain washed into believing that nothing will work for us except zoning and they refused to list how this has benefited us or refer you to any place or state where this zoning has benefited them apart from creating or breeding an atmosphere filled with bitterness, stereotype and unending political dispute. And when you do your findings or read the implications or later consequences of tribal politics, then you will spite on anyone mentioning zoning to your hearing.

But i know that your ignorance of the complex political systems which lead people like you to rely solely on the instructions and news from their pay masters to forge their reason or take decisions and this action of the uninformed majority stands in the way of social-political and economic progress of the people and dampen the morale of the TRUE BELIEVERS and in their ignorance they manufacture tensed atmosphere which will later turn back to hurt their souls, leaving them in the pool of regret and shameful grand standing but you know what, all hope not lost. Our greatest desire and focus now should be to quickly jettison the idea of zoning and being to search for a credible, capable and independent personality to drive the ship of Enugu state come 2023.

At the end! still at the end, the Genuine Men of amity will fellowship together in defence of our better tomorrow and that of our unborn kids as that will be greatest legacy we will leave for them and one thread unifying us is the understanding that human society is marvelously complex and politics is no exception and the knowledge that people are not expected to understand sophisticated arguments from physics or biology to be able to navigate the natural world nor does one need to have a Ph.D. in advanced mathematics or law to know what is good or bad for him but there is nothing bad if you take out some time, relax and then use your tongue to count your teeth, and keep the result with yourself, when the time to reveal the answer, use it to straighten democracy and improve humanity, so guard your vote jealously, the power is with you.

Was there Ever a Zoning Arrangement in the Coal City State? 14/04/2021

*Was there Ever a Zoning Arrangement in the Coal City State?*

As the politics of 2023 picks up in Enugu State, Chinenye Ugwu interrogates the contentious issue of zoning of the governorship seat

The N**i propaganda machine, Joseph Goebbels, offered one of the most popular rubrics of propaganda: “If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, the people will eventually come to believe it.”

Often referred to as the “illusory truth effect,” this is a cognitive bias and glitch in the human psyche, which tends to equate repetition with truth. Enugu politicians have tried to put this to full use. They saturate the media and social media with a fairy tale of how Enugu’s founding fathers agreed on governorship zoning in the politics ushering in the current democratic dispensation and threaten anybody that wants to truncate it. But the question is: how could anybody truncate what does not exist?

Unfortunately, when challenged to name participants and venue of this meeting that birthed Enugu’s zoning pact, the promoters resort to expletives, tantrums, and reckless threats. Nigerians know about the 1958 Lancaster/London Conference where likes of Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Dr. Nnamadi Azikiwe, Sir Ahmadu Bello, Professor Eyo Ita, Sir Adesoji Aderemi, Oba Aladesanmi, HRH Emir Muhammadu Sanusi, Chief Nyong Essien, and Chief S.E Onukogu, etc. adopted a federal structure for Nigeria ahead of independence. Much as Enugu does not necessarily need an elaborate conference like London’s on the issue, but governorship zoning agreement presupposes that people met at a known venue at a known time to reach a written or gentleman agreement.

But these ones resort to threats and insults because the most difficult job in the world is to defend that which you know to be false. Even Goebbels, the father of the Big Lie Theory, forewarned that “truth is the mortal enemy of the lie.”

Meanwhile, to interrogate and establish the existence or otherwise of governorship zoning arrangement in Enugu, Nigerians only need to review the facts around Enugu’s governorship contest since 1999.

Chief Jim Ifeanyichukwu Nwobodo, a former Governor (old Anambra State), Minister, Senator and a founding father of the Peoples Democratic Party and Dr. Okwesilieze Nwodo, a former Governor (Enugu State) and first National Secretary of PDP qualify as elders of Enugu State in 1998. Interestingly, in 1998/1999, Dr. Nwodo championed the governorship aspiration of Nduka Agu in PDP (from Udi in Enugu West zone), while Nwobodo championed the aspiration of Dr. Chimaroke Nnamani, who hails from Agbani, Enugu East zone. Chimaroke eventually got the PDP ticket and went on to beat All Peoples Party, APP’s candidate, Gbazuagu Nweke Gbazuagu (GNG) from Akpugoeze, Enugu West zone, in the main election.

The point is, if there was any agreed zoning arrangement, how come the two foremost elders of Enugu sponsored candidates from different senatorial zones, while Gbazuagu, a key political player, who was a governor-in-the-waiting before the death of Sani Abacha and the General’s transition programme, flew APP’s flag?

The 2003 governorship race was a straight fight between Ambassador Fidel Ayogu of the ANPP (Enugu North) and incumbent Nnamani. Barr. Peter Okonkwo (Ohamadike) and Chief Anayo Onwuegbu (Omeiheukwu) from Enugu North and West, respectively, also tried their luck. Under a zoning arrangement, nobody outside Enugu East could have contested against Nnamani in 2003.

It is common to hear lies like: “Chimaroke picked his successor from Enugu West in line with the zoning agreement by the elders of the state.” But the truth is that the 2007 governorship was not ceded to Enugu West. It was keenly contested, right from the primaries, by interested aspirants from all the zones (except the outgoing Governor’s zone). True, Chimaroke anointed his Commissioner for Justice, Sullivan Chime (Enugu West), but it had nothing to do with an agreed zoning cycle, but pure political interest.

It is easily recalled that even Chimaroke’s Deputy, Dr. Okechukwu Itanyi (Enugu North) contested against Chime in the PDP primary, which held at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium on 10th December 2006. Indeed 12 out of the 17 LGAs had already voted when four aspirants, namely, Itanyi (Enugu North) Dr. Osita Ogbu (Enugu North), Anayo Onwuegbu (Enugu West) and Dr. John Nwokeabia, marched to the table of the Alhaji Shehu Sambo-led PDP Electoral Panel to protest alleged “manifest fraud” in Chime’s favour. They thereafter staged a walkout and later addressed newsmen at Zodiac Hotels, Enugu.

The main gubernatorial election was contested by a coterie of candidates like Chief Ugo Agbala of the All Progressives Grand Alliance backed by Senator Ken Nnamani, Rev. Oscar Egwuonwu of Democratic Peoples Party; Chief Dubem Onyia of the Action Congress, AC (all Enugu West), and most significantly, Barr. Okey Ezea (Ideke) of Labour Party (Enugu North), who was Chime’s main challenger and came second with 22,502 votes and Ambassador Fidel Ayogu of ANPP (Enugu North), who came third with 19,550 votes. They also launched a plethora of petitions leading to the annulment of Chime’s election by the Tribunal on 18th January 2008. It took the Court of Appeal (highest appellate court for governorship petitions at the time) to save Chime’s mandate.

In 2011, Chime snatched PDP’s ticket for his second term from the jaw of defeat. Okwesilieze Nwodo, now PDP’s National Chairman, was out to undo him over irreconcilable political differences. He had God and the likes of Goodluck Jonathan and Senator Ike Ekweremadu to thank. He battled Labour Party’s Chief Ezea (Ideke), Dan Shere of the Peoples Democratic Congress (a party promoted by Chimaroke), and Chief Robert Eze of the ANPP (all from Enugu North) in the 26th April 2011 governorship election.

In 2015, Enugu North was the only zone yet to produce a governor since 1999 and equity favoured them. But the more important factor was that Enugu West senatorial seat, not the governorship position, was the real bone of contention. While the outgoing Governor Chime and Senator Ekweremadu were locked in an epic supremacy battle over senatorial seat, they converged on the candidacy of Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi. Although Chime believed he had anointed his successor, he obviously didn’t know that Ugwuanyi and Ekweremadu have been long allies. This friendship worked for Ugwuanyi, as Ekweremadu threw his political weight, including the delegates structure, which Chime had lost, behind Ugwuanyi to ensure the unity of Enugu PDP and Ugwuanyi’s emergence in the 8th December 2014 governorship primary. Onwuegbu (Enugu West) later withdrew for Ugwuanyi. But Senator Ayogu Eze (Enugu North) tried a parallel primary and waged an unsuccessful judicial battle up to the Supreme Court.

So, clearly, as far as Enugu governorship seat is concerned, everybody had always tried his or her luck, but God always gave power to whomever He pleased. The good and most significant thing, however, is that the coveted seat has gone round the three zones, but certainly not based on any pre-agreed zoning formula, as some propagandists would have Nigerians believe, but as it pleased God and Enugu people.

Consequently, Enugu people are at liberty to look for the best hands – East, West, or North zone- to move the state forward come 2023. Those overheating Enugu polity, sponsoring campaigns of calumny against any Enugu son/daughter/section of the state in order to expropriate the governorship through a non-existent zoning order do so in bad faith and taste.

Enugu East zone have a legitimate 2023 aspiration and qualified people to lead the state. But their ambition doesn’t preclude other aspirants/zones. Building governorship aspiration on smear campaign and falsehood of inexistent zoning arrangement, instead of marketing their governorship hopefuls, don’t help their cause. If they truly believe that anybody vying from outside Enugu East zone is setting him/herself up for disgrace, why warn such person(s)? Why not let the person(s) to step out and be publicly embarrassed at the polls? That is the beauty of democracy.

Ironically, even the loudest promoters of phantom zoning agreement don’t believe that Isi-Uzo LGA is qualified to seek the governorship seat under Enugu East zone. According to them, the governorship is for “Core Nkanu”. And although Nkanu West produced ex-Governor Nnamani, while Enugu South produced ex-Governor Nwobodo, their sense of equity doesn’t include rotating the governorship seat to the backwaters of their “Core Nkanuland” that have suffered perennial political and developmental marginalisation. They are already squaring up to contest. This hypocrisy of coming to equity with unclean hands only further exposes the whole zoning noise for what it is: a stage-managed ruse to service the selfish agenda of a few. Ike is coming, Enugu will be better

4. Don't be in a hurry to share news, pictures, stories etc. You might be harming yourself and others and you might regret it for the rest of your life.

5. Preach peace always no matter the temptation to do otherwise, no one profits from chaos and chaos doesn't recognize the innocent as we are currently witnessing.

6. Don't be insensitive, a lot of people have lost all they've worked for in their entire life.

*IKE WEST:The Brace*

Citizens imbued with progressive minded thought processes would really prefer to dwell and host in their hearts those ideas that align *within reason*, than others that merely meet with cantankerous logics.

Recently, it was in the gallery of Press Publics that the Enugu West Peoples Senator, Distinguished Prof. Ike Ekweremadu displayed the transcript of accomplished Developmental Projects covering several months of this current term.

It is therefore very exact to say that in justifiably dispensing his public spirited intentions across the entire nooks and crannies of the district, that he has done well and still verging with vigour as he serves.

And for a groundswell of opinion holders who are familiar with the pounding of the man's mettle, they are least amazed with the currency, *rather,it is those in constant doubt that are once again dazed*

It has rightly been accounted therefore that within the limited resources the purview of the Constituency Budget entails, he has always rendered the expected care and concern to his people.

And now that we can find *within reason* the presence of the capacity in his will, does it not naturally behove of us all as gathered here to rally at different muster-ins where the needed traction would be generated, than questioning his age long presence in public glare, as if the answers is in any way intended to resolve our years of setbacks in Old Awgu.
A degrade caused by utter neglect from past régimes.

*PEOPLE, why not we choose now to work harmoniously towards the confirmation of the certainty of participation of the war horse of Enugu West District in the 2023 Governorship Election?*

I do really believe that such efforts would have provided a path way to greater assurances to a build up designed to break the back of this jinx known as *"Old Awgu Pious Hope"*- a recalcitrance of endless hope of the manifestation of of our expected Democratic Dividends from Governments under the watch of Governors from other zones.

In anticipation of calculatedly utilising the opportunity of the incoming Election, to our greater good, *we must not treat with disdain the negative activities of clout hackers in our mist representing the interest of progenies from clodhopper's ej*****te, and who are given to the habit of continually subjecting this zone to the position of artworks imprinted on walls to entertain passersby.*

There must be many prongs of meeting points where they should be made to realize that by the time they drive to the end point of their curious gambits, the matters of who emerges as the Governor of Enugu State in 2023 would have been settled and in the favour of the set apart one; *Ike West*,the scion of Old Awgu, who is the grand brace.
Let's now bring-on our games and force the issue. It is all about gains;there shall be no loss.
