…Excecutive Committee of the party in Enugu State reconstituted
BY JUDE OSSAI / ENUGU
Chairman of the Labour Party (LP), Enugu State Chapter, Barrister Casmir Uchenna Agbo has dismissed what he described as his ‘purported removal from office’, saying that the tenure of his 14-man executive committee has been extended till another election is held.
Agbo who disclosed this at a press briefing in Enugu on Wednesday, said that the Dr. Julius Abure led national executive committee approved the reconstitution of the excecutive committee of the party in Enugu State.
“I am addressing you on recent event that has happened in the state some few hours ago, 72 hours ago but before then, it is my pleasure to introduce the new approved list of approved exco members dated January 22, 2025,” he said.
According to him, “Our tenure was extended for continuity and for effective leadership.”
“The national executive committee of our great party thereby informs INEC that following the expiration of the tenure of the committee members, it has been resolved to review to extend the tenure of the committee members for continuity and for effective leadership,” Agbo points out.
The party chairman explained that prior to the extension of their tenure, it had been announced in some quarters that he, Agbo had been relieved of his position.
He said that his purported removal from office is null and void, adding that he remains in office until election is conducted.
“The sacking of the chairman is null and void. The purported removal of the chairman is null and void,” he declared.
According to him, now that they have been reconstituted, they will strengthen the party to make sure that members stayed and others that left returned.
He said that the era of bickering and crisis is over in the party in the state and urged members not to leave the party.
“We are not suspending anybody. I therefore tell our members that bickering and crisis will not pay. We are asking our elected members not to leave the the party that made them.
Fielding questions from journalists, Agbo said that their governorship candidate in the last gubernatorial election, Barr. Chijoke Edeoga has been asked not to fall to the PDP overtures to return.
He said that the party advised Edeoga to look well before he leaps so that he might not fall or sink.
“Politics is full of deceites. If you jump into a hole and get yourself crashed, don’t blame any man or woman. It is a game I pass you, you pass me. Once you deviate politically, you go down ten steps backwards. So, we advised Chijioke Edeoga not to go back to PDP. We also advised our members to come back to the party”.

I was never really interested in Party Politics all these while for the singular reason that I detest the underhands and deceit prominent with politicians .
As a practicing Civil Engineer , I see myself more of a technocrat. Politics is not handwork.
I quickly Joined Labour party with Peter Obi because he had that message of fixing the Corruption which has bedevilled all aspects of our politics .
I decide to throw in my all into the fray. As a lot of others also trouped in too.
As we progressed I personally started profiling all I came across into
The Opportunists
Power mongers
The O yes members
The true Change agents of a new Nigeria.
These and more we saw in Labour party. The good , the bad and the ugly.
We saw candidates as meek as the Lamb, penniless , cloutless and inexperienced like some of us in the electioneering game.
We all moved with one mind , with the Members spending more money than the candidates .
In all these , the State Party Chairman accommodated all without prejudices even when they never met his statutory demands for his office and the Party.
Now came swearing In and political office holders turned tigers. Many never took out time to go back to the people that supported them and to thank them.
At this stage , the State Chairman now became a pariah to them. They have gotten power money as well, they can now determine the fate of the people that fought , bled and sacrificed for them.
Today , what we see is the normal politics of PDP and APC that I never wanted to align with. But the good thing is that it's availing people like me table to learn.
I enjoin everybody who still believes in Labour party and the ideals with which it is formed to be calm. After the wave of defections, those remaining must come together to salvage the party , rebuild it according to the ideals of Fairness and equity with strict adherence to the rule of law.
There are still the true change agents whom desire something different from APC and PDP.
Forward Ever !!!!! Backwards never ....

My purported suspension a nullity, unconstitutional- Agbo
By Our Reporter
Barrister Casmir Agbo, the Chairman of Labour Party (LP) in Enugu State has said that his purported suspension by some renegades in the state chapter was null, void and of no consequence.
Agbo stated this at the part’s office in Enugu while reacting to media reports claiming that he had been suspended by some members of the party.
At a press conference on Wednesday the LP chairman said that the State Working Committee (SWC) had now been convocted with 14 new members by the National Secretariat of the party.
He said: “The issue of suspension of the state chairman as was announced sometime ago is null and void inline with the constitution of our party, 2014 as amended.
“The constitution stipulates that the state chairman cannot be removed except by state congress.
“Therefore, the purported removal of the state chairman (myself) is a waste of time; null and void, is of no effect and unconstitutional. “
He, however, urged those aggrieved to come back and work for the progress of the party ahead of 2027, elections.
“i, therefore, call on my members to retrace their steps for us to form a formidable family ahead of 2027, ” he said.
On the issue of Honourable Chijioke Edeoga being begged to return to the PDP, the LP chairman said, he had advised him to remain in the party.
“As a labour party chairman, I have advised him to “look before he lips”
“Also, as a party, the labour party in Enugu State don’t want him to leave.
“But as a man and also a politician, if he decides to leave, so be it, we cannot stop him, ” Agbo said.
He said that Edeoga remained a force in the politics of Enugu State, adding that, that was why every party was looking for him.
On Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the party in the 2023 election, Agbo said that, Obi needed labour party as much as the party needed him.
“We complement each other; Peter Obi needs labour party, just as the labour party needs him.
“The truth is that, Obi needs a platform to actualize his dream of being Nigeria’s President, ” he said.
It would be recalled that 17 members of the party in the state had on Tuesday sent a release to newsmen after a meeting announcing the suspension of the state chairman.
They accused the chairman of many sins against the party including high-handedness, neglect of party rules amongst others.
However, a letter signed by the National Chairman and National Secretary, of LP, Dr Julius Abure and Umar Farouk Ibrahim respectively, affirmed the extension of the tenure of the swc pending the conduct of a fresh congress.
The names of the SWC members are: Barr. Casmir Agbo (State Chairman), Barr. Simon Akachukwu (Secretary), Mr Okenwa Emmanuel (Vice Chairman), Tony Nwachukwu (Deputy State Chairman, East), Emeka Ikemefuna (Dep, West) and Kingsley Chidera Ugwu (Dep, North).
Others include, Agama Joseph (Fin. Sec), Okorie Cyril (Organising Secretary), Barr Onuorah Odo (Pub Sec), Barr. Ifeanyi Ogenyi (Legal Adviser), Innocent Okorie (Auditor), Ani Eucharia (woman leader) and Ogbuenyi Ndubuisi (Youth leader).
