Bringing quality healthcare closer to the people.

His Excellency, Dr. Peter Mbah’s commitment to constructing Type 2 Primary Healthcare Centres in every ward across Enugu State is a bold step toward universal health coverage, ensuring that no community is left behind.

By bridging critical access gaps, this initiative strengthens our health systems, improves outcomes, and advances SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being for all.

Accessible healthcare is not a privilege, it is a right and in Enugu State, that right is being realized.

A courtesy visit by the outgoing President of the NYSC SDG CDS Group, Enugu East Local Government Area, who formally introduced the newly inaugurated leadership to the SDG Office.

The delegation was warmly received by the SSA to the Governor on SDGs, Engr. Onyinye Akubuilo-Okpalanma, alongside the Technical Assistant to the Governor on SDGs, Chinenye Ojobor .

The NYSC SDG CDS Group remains a vital arm of our SDG Youth Volunteer Network across all LGAs, driving grassroots advocacy, community engagement, and sustainable development action.

Since the inception of the Enugu State SDG Youth Volunteer Scheme in 2024, Enugu East LGA has stood out for its consistency, commitment, and impact. We are confident this new leadership will build on that strong foundation.

The SDG Youth Volunteer Scheme, established in 2024 by the State SDG Focal Person, Engr. Onyinye Akubuilo-Okpalanma, is designed to mobilize, empower, and coordinate young people as champions of the Sustainable Development Goals at the community level, ensuring no one is left behind.

We wish the new team a productive and impactful tenure.

The Enugu State Sustainable Economic Empowerment Program (E-SEEP) focusing on training on leatherworks is currently taking place across select Local Government Areas of the state.

The initiative, organized by the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Office, is part of the state government’s strategic effort to empower citizens with practical, income-generating skills that promote self-reliance and sustainable economic growth.

The training program, which runs for six weeks, is designed to equip participants with hands-on knowledge in leatherworks. Beyond skills acquisition, the program also seeks to stimulate entrepreneurship, create employment opportunities, and improve the livelihoods of beneficiaries across the participating communities.

Participants expressed great enthusiasm and gratitude for the opportunity provided by the Enugu State Government. They particularly appreciated His Excellency, the Governor, Dr. Peter Mbah for not only facilitating the training but also providing post-training financial support to enable them establish or expand their businesses after the program.

Addressing the participants during the training sessions, the SDG Focal Person, Engr. Onyinye Akubuilo-Okpalanma encouraged them to take the program seriously and maximize the opportunity to acquire a valuable lifelong skill.

She further reminded them that the initiative aligns with the broader objectives of the sustainable development goals, particularly in promoting decent work, economic growth, and poverty reduction.

The E-SEEP Leatherworks Skill Acquisition Training continues to receive positive feedback across the participating councils, with stakeholders expressing optimism that the program will produce a new generation of skilled artisans and small-scale entrepreneurs capable of driving grassroots economic transformation.

Today, we celebrate the strength, resilience, and limitless potential of women across our communities.

At the Enugu State SDG Office, we reaffirm our commitment to advancing gender equality and empowering women and girls in line with the vision of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Sustainable Development Goal 5 (Gender Equality).

Happy International Women’s Day!

Today, we join the world to commemorate Zero Discrimination Day, a powerful reminder that equality, inclusion, and respect for human dignity are fundamental to sustainable development.

The promise of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) is clear, “leave no one behind”.

Discrimination based on gender, age, disability, ethnicity, religion, socioeconomic status, or any other status undermines progress and limits opportunities for individuals and communities to thrive.

A society that embraces inclusion builds stronger institutions, more resilient communities, and a more prosperous future for all.

Today, as we commemorate the World Day of Social Justice, we are reminded that social justice is not just an ideal, it is a responsibility. It calls us to build systems that are fair, inclusive, and responsive to the needs of every citizen.

Social justice means opportunity for every child.
It means dignity in work.
It means fairness in governance.

The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) calls for reduced inequalities, inclusive institutions, and access to quality education for every child. Social justice is at the heart of Goals 1, 4, 5, 8, 10, and 16.

Social justice is most powerful when it moves beyond words into deliberate action.

In Enugu State, under the leadership of His Excellency, Dr. Peter Mbah , the establishment of Smart Green Schools across all 260 wards stands as practical evidence of social justice in action.

By bringing quality, technology-driven education directly into communities, children from low-income and underserved backgrounds now have access to the same standard of learning as their peers anywhere else. This initiative directly advances SDG 4 (Quality Education) and strengthens the foundation for long-term equity and opportunity.

As we mark this day, we reaffirm our commitment to policies and programs that leave no one behind and ensure that opportunity is not determined by circumstance.

We were pleased to receive the leaders of the NYSC SDG CDS group from Awgu Local Government Area; a largely rural LGA where SDG advocacy has had limited visibility until now. Their visit marks an important step in expanding the reach of SDG advocacy efforts across our communities.

It is with great excitement that we welcome them into the Enugu State SDG Youth Volunteers Scheme. Our discussions focused on practical strategies to ramp up SDG advocacy, deepen sensitization, and implement impactful projects aligned with the priority SDGs of the Enugu State Government.

Awgu is officially onboard, and we look forward to the energy, commitment, and grassroots impact this partnership will bring.

Together, we are strengthening the movement to ensure no community is left behind.
