The engagement reaffirmed our commitment to expanding access to healthcare, strengthening grassroots awareness and ensuring that more residents benefit from essential government programmes.

As we look back on this important moment, we remain focused on building on the achievements of the first term and delivering even greater impact in the years ahead.

ENUGU EAST LGA, MINISTRY, UNICEF PARTNER ON FOUR-DAY NUTRITION AND FOOD SECURITY WORKSHOP

The Enugu State Ministry of Human Capital Development and Poverty Reduction, in partnership with UNICEF Nigeria and Enugu East Local Government Area, has concluded a four-day capacity-building workshop on nutrition and food security for women and caregivers in the LGA, with the ceremonial flag-off held as part of the closing day’s activities.

Declaring the ceremony open, the Executive Chairman of Enugu East LGA, Dr. Pst. Beloved-Dan Obi Anike, reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to grassroots empowerment, improved nutrition and food security. He announced plans to support participants in forming and registering cooperative groups to enable them to access further support from development partners, strengthen their productive activities and improve their livelihoods.

The training focused on maternal nutrition during pregnancy, Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF), and the importance of the first 1,000 days of a child’s life to healthy growth and development.

Participants received practical instruction on affordable and sustainable nutrition practices, including proper food preparation, regular feeding, personal and household hygiene, and the use of locally available nutritious foods.

The workshop also promoted household food production as a means of improving access to nutritious meals. Participants were trained in vegetable cultivation, small-scale animal husbandry, year-round farming, and food processing and preservation using locally appropriate methods.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, one of the participants expressed appreciation to the Ministry and the Local Government Council for the knowledge and practical skills acquired, describing the training as impactful.

The Senior Special Assistant to the Chairman on Business Development and Investment, Mrs. Ekete Nnenna, commended the participants for their enthusiasm and practical demonstrations. She encouraged them to share the knowledge gained with other women in their communities to extend the benefits of the programme.

Dr. Obi Anike also commended the participants for the local innovations demonstrated during the training and urged them to share the lessons with women and caregivers who were unable to attend.

In a related announcement, the Chairman disclosed plans to introduce a local farming protection law aimed at encouraging continuous agricultural production across the LGA. Under the proposed arrangement, farmers willing to cultivate fallow or undeveloped land would be permitted to use such land until the owners are ready to develop it, at which point alternative farmland would be allocated to the farmers.

The proposed initiative is intended to encourage productive land use, strengthen local food production and improve food security within Enugu East.

The workshop aligns with the Enugu State Government’s human capital development agenda under Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, with a focus on poverty reduction, improved nutrition and food security at the grassroots.

ENUGU EAST CHAIRMAN COMMENDS POWELL HOMES & SHELTERS LTD AT HOSANNA ESTATE COMMISSIONING

The Executive Chairman of Enugu East Local Government Area, Dr. Pst. Beloved-Dan Obi Anike, on Wednesday attended the official commissioning of Hosanna Estate, a real estate development by Powell Homes & Shelters Ltd, in Enugu State, where he highlighted the opportunities arising from ongoing road infrastructure projects.

Speaking at the ceremony, Dr. Obi Anike commended the estate developer for the initiative, noting that the ongoing dualisation of the Abakpa–Ugwogo–Opi–Nsukka Road presents significant opportunities for real estate investment, economic growth and the expansion of residential communities along the corridor.

He also drew attention to the implications of rural-to-urban migration for housing demand in Enugu State, stressing the importance of private-sector investment in providing adequate housing to meet the needs of a growing population.

The Chairman noted that developments such as Hosanna Estate could contribute to addressing the housing deficit by expanding access to residential properties and supporting the planned growth of communities. He commended Powell Homes & Shelters Ltd for its contribution to the state’s real estate sector and for investing in a project with the potential to support future housing needs.

The commissioning ceremony was performed by the Governor of Enugu State, His Excellency, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, who was represented by the Deputy Governor, His Excellency, Barr. Ifeanyi Ossai. The event brought together dignitaries, industry stakeholders, business partners, clients and other guests to celebrate the milestone.

The commissioning of Hosanna Estate highlights the role of private-sector participation in complementing public infrastructure investments and supporting housing and urban development across Enugu State.

ENUGU EAST LGA ORIENTS SMART GREEN SCHOOL COORDINATORS, PRINCIPALS

The Enugu East Local Government Area on Tuesday held an orientation meeting for coordinators, principals and head teachers of Smart Green Schools across the LGA to strengthen implementation of the initiative and clarify expectations for effective school management.

The Executive Chairman, Dr. Pst. Beloved-Dan Obi Anike, welcomed the participants and highlighted the vision of the Smart Green Schools initiative, which aligns with the Enugu State Government’s transition towards a digitally driven education system.

He explained that the initiative is designed to equip pupils with relevant knowledge, digital skills and competencies to thrive in an increasingly technology-driven world. He noted that this supports the vision of the Governor of Enugu State, His Excellency, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, to strengthen human capital development and prepare children for future opportunities.

The Chairman described the coordinators and school heads as critical to the success of the initiative, emphasising that its impact would depend on their commitment, professionalism and dedication to teaching and learning. He urged them to take ownership of their responsibilities and ensure that pupils derive maximum benefit from the facilities and resources provided.

In their separate remarks, the coordinators, principals and head teachers expressed appreciation to the State Government for introducing the Smart Green Schools initiative and commended the Enugu East LGA for its support in the development of the schools and provision of teaching and learning materials.

They also presented progress reports on developments in their respective schools, providing updates on implementation and related activities.

The meeting was attended by school coordinators, principals, head teachers and political appointees of the Local Government.

APC ENUGU EAST LGA WELCOMES NDC LEADERS AS THEY COLLAPSE LGA STRUCTURE

The All Progressives Congress (APC), Enugu East Local Government Area Chapter, on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, received a group of defectors from the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) into its fold.

The defectors, led by Hon. Nnamani Ejike, were formally received at the Council Headquarters, where they pledged allegiance to the APC and declared their support for the party’s agenda. Hon. Ejike also assured the gathering that the NDC structure would collapse into the APC as part of efforts towards the next election.

Among the defectors was Hon. Cyril Ugwu, a former House of Assembly aspirant under the NDC, who returned to the APC alongside a large number of his supporters.

The ceremony was also attended by Prof. Bethrand Ngwu, Chief Medical Director of ESUT Teaching Hospital, who thanked the new members for their decision and welcomed them into the party.

Welcoming the new members, the APC Chairman, Hon. Okey Igbokwe, and the Special Adviser to the Executive Chairman on Political Matters, Hon. Bethrand Anike, received them and advised them to present themselves to their respective ward executives for proper identification and integration into the party structure.

In his remarks, the Member representing Enugu East Rural Constituency, Hon. Raymond Okechukwu Ugwu, appreciated the defectors for joining the APC family and assured them of equal opportunities and benefits available to party members from the national leadership.

Similarly, the Member representing Enugu East Urban Constituency, Hon. Osita Okoh, expressed delight at their decision and commended them for their courage.

In his closing remarks, the Executive Chairman of Enugu East LGA, Dr. Pst. Beloved-Dan Obi Anike, thanked the group for maintaining a formidable political structure over the years.

He noted that his administration’s empowerment programmes during the first term were not restricted to APC members but extended to indigenes of Enugu East LGA, citing the Aviation Programme as an example in which a non-APC member was among the beneficiaries.

He reiterated the earlier directive of the party chairman that the new members should formally present themselves to their respective ward executives and attend the APC LEC meeting.

ENUGU EAST COUNCIL HOLDS OFFICIAL OPENING PRAYER FOR SECOND TERM

The Enugu East Local Government Council on Monday held its official opening prayer to mark the commencement of its second-term administration and dedicate the new tenure to God Almighty.

The session featured thanksgiving to God for the successful first term, His protection over the leadership, staff and people of the Local Government, the progress recorded during the first administration, and the opportunity to commence a new term of service.

The gathering also sought continued growth, expansion and greater accomplishments for Enugu East Local Government Area in the second term, as well as forgiveness, mercy, peace and continued development.

Speaking at the prayer meeting, the Executive Chairman, Dr. Pst. Beloved-Dan Obi Anike, reflected on the growth recorded by the Local Government and charged staff and political appointees to protect and build on the gains already achieved.

The Chairman admonished his team to keep pressing forward, noting that the second term carries an even greater responsibility than the first. He further prayed that every effort made by staff and appointees towards the development of Enugu East would, by the grace of God, yield multiplied results.

The prayer meeting was attended by political appointees and staff of the Local Government Council.

ENUGU EAST CHAIRMAN HOSTS DINNER, RECOGNISES POLITICAL APPOINTEES, OUTSTANDING PERFORMERS AND STAKEHOLDERS

The Executive Chairman of Enugu East Local Government Area, Dr. Pst. Beloved-Dan Obi Anike, yesterday, as part of activities marking his inauguration for a second term, hosted a dinner and award night to celebrate the successful completion of his first term and the commencement of a new term of service.

The event brought together party executives and political stakeholders, traditional and community leaders, political appointees, the clergy and faithful, development partners, contractors, scholarship partners, parents of beneficiaries of the Greater Tomorrow Scholarship Scheme, representatives of participating schools and other members of the Enugu East family.

Among the institutions and organisations represented were the David Umahi Federal University of Health Sciences, Goodwill Medical Centre and other partners of the Local Government, while schools participating in the Greater Tomorrow Scholarship Scheme, including Daughters of Divine Love (DDL), Enugu, were also represented.

A major highlight of the evening was the presentation of Certificates of Meritorious Service to political appointees who served during the first administration. The recognition covered the Secretary to the Local Government, Supervisors, Special Advisers, Senior Special Assistants, Special Assistants, Executive Assistants, Technical Assistants and other political appointees who served in various capacities during the first term.

The Deputy Chairman of Enugu East Local Government Area, Engr. Kingsley Obi Anike, was specially recognised with an award for his commitment and support to the administration, particularly his leadership and contributions to the Local Government’s Human Capital Development programmes. His role in driving initiatives under the Human Capital Development agenda, including youth empowerment and the aviation programme, was also acknowledged.

The Chairperson of Enugu East Local Government Area, Dr. Mrs. Happiness Ozioma Obi-Anike, was also presented with a Certificate of Meritorious Service in recognition of her leadership contribution and commitment to programmes and activities that promoted the welfare, empowerment and advancement of women across the Local Government Area.

In addition, Dr. Mrs. Obi-Anike received a special award in recognition of her support for the Executive Chairman and his administration, as well as her commitment to activities and programmes that contributed to improving the lives and welfare of women in Enugu East.

The Chairman of the APC in Enugu East Local Government Area, Hon. Okey Igbokwe, was also honoured with an award in recognition of his contributions and support to the administration and the development of the Local Government Area.

The Secretary to the Local Government was also presented with a Certificate of Recognition in appreciation of his service and contributions to the administration during the first term.

Beyond the general recognition of political appointees, Dr. Beloved-Dan presented special awards to individuals who distinguished themselves through exceptional commitment and performance in their respective areas of responsibility.

The award categories included Most Outstanding Supervisor, Most Outstanding Special Adviser, Most Outstanding Senior Special Assistant, Most Outstanding Special Assistant, Most Outstanding Executive Assistant, Most Outstanding Technical Assistant, Outstanding Mobilisation, Outstanding Peacebuilding and Most Outstanding Councillor, among other categories.

Recipients of the special awards received certificates of recognition alongside a cash award of ₦100,000 each, in appreciation of their outstanding contributions to the administration and the development of Enugu East.

Speaking on the significance of the recognitions, Dr. Beloved-Dan said the initiative was aimed at appreciating those who served diligently during the first term and encouraging a culture of commitment, excellence and responsibility in public service.

He expressed appreciation to all political appointees, community leaders, development partners, contractors, scholarship partners, parents and other stakeholders for their support and contributions to the achievements recorded during the first administration, noting that the progress made was a collective effort.

The dinner also featured goodwill messages from stakeholders and partners, who commended the administration for its achievements during the first term and expressed their best wishes for a successful and more impactful second term.

The evening ended on a note of celebration, appreciation and renewed commitment to service, as the Enugu East family looked ahead to another chapter of development under the leadership of Dr. Pst. Beloved-Dan Obi Anike.

ENUGU EAST LG HOLDS THANKSGIVING SERVICE AT ASSUMPTION PARISH, NKWO NIKE

The Enugu East Local Government Area, on Wednesday 30th September, held a special Thanksgiving Service at Assumption Parish, Nkwo Nike, to give glory to God Almighty for His faithfulness, guidance and blessings throughout the first term administration of the Executive Chairman, Dr. Pst. Beloved-Dan Obi Anike, and for the renewed mandate to continue serving the people of the Local Government Area.

The Thanksgiving Service, themed “CHUKWUDALU,” brought together stakeholders from across Enugu East, including revered Traditional Rulers, party stakeholders and faithful, political appointees, community leaders, members of the clergy and other residents of the Local Government Area.

In his remarks, the Executive Chairman expressed profound gratitude to God and appreciated the people of Enugu East for their prayers, support and confidence in his administration. He also specially acknowledged the indigenous Priests of Nike Kingdom for their spiritual support and intercession, describing their presence as a testament to the unity and fellowship that have continued to bind the people together.

Reflecting on the first administration, Dr. Beloved-Dan noted that God had enabled the Local Government to record impactful achievements across various sectors, with Human Capital Development standing out as one of the administration’s most significant programmes.

He explained that the vision of the Human Capital Development programme has remained centred on producing great men and women across the communities of Enugu East and empowering young people who would become future builders of the land.

According to him, this vision aligns with the broader development direction of the State Government, as emphasised by the Executive Governor of Enugu State, His Excellency, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, who recently reiterated that a major focus of his administration is to “build tomorrow’s people today.”

The Chairman said this vision would further strengthen the Local Government’s commitment to Human Capital Development in the second term, noting that investing in people remains essential to building a stronger and more prosperous future for Enugu East.

As the Local Government begins a new term, Dr. Beloved-Dan said the administration would build on the foundation already laid, strengthen its Human Capital Development drive and continue to attend to the needs of the people and communities.

He reaffirmed that the renewed mandate entrusted to the administration by Ndi Enugu East comes with a greater responsibility to serve, expressing confidence that, with God’s guidance and the continued support of the people, more progress would be recorded in the years ahead.

The Thanksgiving Service ended with prayers of thanksgiving and supplication for the continued peace, progress and development of Enugu East LGA, as the gathering gave glory to God for His faithfulness and committed the new administration into His hands.
