Stop attacking Jonathan, PDP warns APC
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has cautioned the All Progressives Congress (APC) over the caustic attacks that the opposition party has been directing at President Goodluck Jonathan. Describing the actions of APC in that regard as a threat to the institutions of democracy and the unity of the nation, PDP said it would no longer “fold its hands” and allow such “unwarranted and sustained vicious attacks” go unchecked. “The PDP has been watching carefully as the rank and file of the APC, the governors, party leaders, presidential hopefuls and even sidekicks run amok, competing in a heavily subjective castigation of President Goodluck Jonathan with incendiary utterances,” Olisa Metuh, the party’s national publicity secretary said in a statement on Tuesday. “However, patriotism, the cardinal value of our great party, indeed, the price of our custodianship of the mandate of over 160 million Nigerians calls for vigilance, maturity and responsibility, hence our restraints in the face of the naked lies and recklessness of the APC. “We had thought that the silver hair of its top leaders would caution the thoughtless delinquency of its youngsters. Unfortunately, the recklessness of the old is in competition with the imprudence of the young. What a shame the APC has turned! “Our decent political campaigns focusing on the achievements of our party at various levels of government should have served as a pointer to the APC on the need to maintain political decorum and primacy of national interest in the build-up to the forthcoming elections. “It is however unfortunate that the APC has refused to shed its penchant for lies, deceit, propaganda, violence and blackmail as the center piece of their agenda and message to Nigerians. “This disposition has led the APC to work in cahoots with the enemies of Nigeria in an attempt to wreck our democracy and throw the nation into chaos, hence the urgency of the need to warn that ‘enough is now enough.” PDP further alleged that APC is attempting to plunge the country into violence ahead of the forthcoming election. “We know that the aim of the APC is to set the stage for violence, instill fear in Nigerians, discourage them from actively participating in the electoral process thereby giving room for them to perpetrate all manners of electoral malpractices (as evidenced by their cloning of the Permanent Voters Cards) which is the only way they may hope to achieve political power in Nigeria,” the statement read. “This position is reinforced by their constant threat to cause violent pandemonium when they lose the elections. “One must then ask. Is violence and inflammatory statements the manifesto of the APC? Is plotting against the oneness of the nation the party’s article of faith? Is the never-ending attempt to ridicule the highest office in the land a credo and an explanation of the alternative the APC is flaunting?”

How Aliyu and Lamido deceived me- Gov. Amaechi:
"I personally do not have any issue with our President. You can ask him. The only issue was a minor disagreement between me and the wife of the President over certain aspects of government policies. And we could have resolved it. After all, I didn't continue with the demolition of the waterfronts. I stopped on her advice! However, the present feud started when Gov. Aliyu told me that the north has decided to sponsor a Tambuwal/Amaechi ticket in 2015 under the platform of the PDP. Aliyu, then pretentiously initiated a grand plan that made me the chairman of Nigeria governor's forum, just to lure me, to support his rebellious act in the PDP to stop President Jonathan. But when it became very clear that the President was in total control of the PDP. Aliyu brokered a meeting between the G7 governors and the leadership of the APC at the Niger state governor's lodge. Tinubu, Buhari, Ikimi, Tambuwal, Ribadu, Baraje, Adams and 7 other APC governors were in attendance. In that meeting, the G7 governors all agreed to join the APC. Two days after that meeting, Gov. Adams called me and advised me to remain in PDP. Then I called Aliyu and told him, that Adams has been with the APC long enough to know their intrigues, and has advised me to remain in the PDP. But Aliyu told me, that the day he discussed the Tambuwal/Amaechi ticket with the leadership of the APC that Adams objected to it and expressed his willingness to run with Tambuwal. And Aliyu warned me never to discus my interest with Adams, that Adams doesn't mean well for me. So the G5 governors continued with the plan and remained in APC. Aliyu is a chameleon and represents everything evil. He was the pioneer and architect of rebellion in the PDP followed by Lamido. We are all in shock, on how Gov. Aliyu would turn around to champion an endorsement of President Jonathan for re-election. Even up till last month, Aliyu and Lamido were still promising the G5 governors of a showdown in the PDP. The hearts of men are indeed deceitful and desperately wicked. If you have to eat with the devil with a long spoon. For Aliyu, I would rather you don't eat with him at all. Better starve to death than eat with him. If I knew, I would have listened to Adams and remained in the PDP "

Oyedepo seeks reconciliation of aggrieved Kwara PDP elders
Chief Iyiola Oyedepo, the Peoples Democratic Party Chairman in Kwara, on Sunday urged the Elders Committee of the party to reconcile all aggrieved members in the state.
Oyedepo made the plea in Ilorin while inaugurating a 61-member State Elders’ Committee of the party headed by Haliru Kaima.
The chairman specifically asked the elders to resolve the crisis rocking the leadership of the party in Ilorin West Local Government area.
Oyedepo also appealed to them to ensure the smooth emergence of the party flag bearers, especially the governorship candidate, ahead of the 2015 general elections.
He enjoined the elders to raise fund for the party to enable it to face the challenges of winning the elections in the state.
According to him, the party will need average of N500,000 daily as running cost.
“Running a political party is very expensive, we need N500,000 daily while at the same time we do not want any governorship aspirant or an individual to solely finance the party.”
Oyedepo said that allowing a money bag to dominate and dictate to the party would be detrimental to the ideal of collective ownership of the party.
He said, “for PDP to be truly free from the shackle of individuals, sole sponsorship of the party must be discouraged.”
In his remark, a member of the committee from Kwara North, Alhaji Baba Zuruk, said, “when you have elders in place things will be straightened and when you have elders with manners, things hardly go wrong.”

PDP disagrees with Amaechi over council polls
THE Peoples Democratic Party in Rivers State has attributed Governor Rotimi Amaechi’s preference for the caretaker committee to conducting council elections to the fear of defeat at local government polls.
The state PDP, in a statement signed by the Special Adviser, Media, to its chairman, Mr. Jerry Needam, also challenged the state governor to a popularity contest through the conduct of council elections.
According to the statement issued in Port Harcourt, the state PDP decried Amaechi’s decision to fix local government elections after the general elections in 2015.
“The only reason why Governor Chibuike Amaechi has continued to postpone a formal conduct of local government council elections in the state, preferring a caretaker committee, is the fear of defeat at the poll.
“The PDP regrets that it is the local government councils and the people that are at a loss for not getting the leadership they deserve and by extension, are underdeveloped.
“We are on the ground and ever prepared to engage Governor Amaechi and his All Progressives Congress in a free and fair electoral contest any day and are sure of coasting home in a landslide victory,” the statement read.
But the APC in Rivers State on Friday said the non-conduct of the council election in the state had nothing to do with the fear of losing to the PDP.
The Senior Special Adviser to the State Chairman of the APC, Mr. Chukwuemeka Eze, said the delay in conducting the council poll should be blamed on the Minister of State for Education, Mr. Nyesom Wike.
Eze said the crisis in the state judiciary was responsible for the inability to conduct council poll in the state, adding that Wike was planning to force his choice of Chief Judge on the state.
“If anybody should be held responsible for the non-conduct of local government elections in Rivers State, that person should be Wike.
“He (Wike) is the one that tried to manipulate the NJC in order to plant his own choice of Chief Judge instead of allowing the governor to exercise his constitutional powers in appointing a Chief Judge. This started the crisis in the judiciary in Rivers State.
“The fact remains that you can’t conduct LG elections without the judiciary because without a Chief Judge of the state, who is expected to constitute an election tribunal to handle petitions, such an election will be an exercise in futility.
“Governor Amaechi, knowing his onions as regards constitutional matters, can’t engage in an exercise that will be stalled on the way just because he wants to satisfy the goal of a non-existing party like PDP in Rivers State,” he said.
