Alhamdulillah! The Centre for Semi-Arid Research and Development (CSARD), Binyaminu Usman Polytechnic, Hadejia, has achieved another remarkable milestone as the BUPOLY-CSARD 2nd National Conference 2026 officially recorded 59 accepted abstracts/manuscripts from researchers, academics, professionals, and innovators across Nigeria, Egypt, and the United Kingdom.

This achievement marks a significant step forward in the growth and recognition of the conference, transforming it from a national platform into a conference with genuine international participation. The accepted papers span diverse disciplines including Artificial Intelligence, Climate Change, Environmental Sustainability, Agriculture and Food Security, Engineering Innovations, Health Sciences, Geospatial Technologies, ICT, Governance, and Sustainable Development, reflecting the conference theme: "Innovation and Transformation as Catalysts for Sustainable Development and National Resilience."

During the Maiden (1st) National Conference in 2021, the conference received and accepted 43 papers, including two international presentations—one by a student from Germany and another by a student from India. Today, in 2026, the conference has expanded to 59 accepted papers with active participation from institutions in Africa and Europe, demonstrating the increasing relevance, visibility, and academic credibility of the BUPOLY-CSARD Conference.

The conference has attracted submissions from universities, polytechnics, colleges of education, research institutions, and private technology organizations. Notably, Jigawa State recorded the highest participation with 29 accepted papers, while international contributions were received from the Egypt-Japan University of Science and Technology (Egypt) and the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow (United Kingdom).

This success is a testament to the visionary leadership of the Management of Binyaminu Usman Polytechnic, the dedication of the Conference Organising Committee, the support of our partners and sponsors, and the confidence reposed in CSARD by researchers across the globe.

As we hosted participants from 2nd – 5th June 2026, we celebrate not only the number of papers received but also the growing network of scholars, innovators, policymakers, and development practitioners who continue to make the BUPOLY-CSARD Conference a platform for knowledge exchange, innovation, and sustainable development.

We sincerely appreciate all authors, reviewers, keynote speakers, lead paper presenters, sponsors, partners, and participants for contributing to this success story.

🚀 From 43 papers in 2021 to 59 papers in 2026.
🌍 From two international presentations to international institutional participation.
🎓 From a national gathering to a globally connected academic platform.

The future of Binyaminu Usman Polytechnic, Hadejia Centre for Semi-arid Research and Development is bright, and the journey has only just begun.

BUPOLY-CSARD 2026 National Conference Keynote Address

The CSARD 2026 National Conference was honored to host our distinguished Keynote Speaker, Prof. Babagana Abba Gambo, Policy Advisor on Agriculture and Water Resources to the Nigerian Governors' Forum (NGF), who delivered a thought-provoking presentation titled:

"Agricultural Innovation, Water Security and National Resilience: Catalysts for Transformation and Sustainable Development in Nigeria."

In his keynote address, Prof. Gambo emphasized that agriculture and water resources remain the foundation of Nigeria's economic prosperity, food security, and national stability. He highlighted that over 70% of Nigerians depend directly or indirectly on agriculture for their livelihoods, making the sector critical to achieving sustainable development and national resilience.

The keynote presentation examined major challenges confronting the agricultural sector, including climate variability, water scarcity, land degradation, post-harvest losses, insecurity, and inadequate agricultural financing. He stressed that these interconnected challenges require innovative and evidence-based solutions driven by research, technology, and effective public policy.

Prof. Gambo further underscored the transformative role of digital agriculture through the adoption of remote sensing, drone technology, artificial intelligence, precision farming, digital market platforms, and climate-smart agricultural practices. He noted that technology must be accessible to farmers at the grassroots level to achieve meaningful agricultural transformation.

Speaking on water resources, he described water security as one of Nigeria's most undervalued strategic assets and called for greater investment in irrigation infrastructure, water governance, and sustainable management of water resources to support food production and climate resilience.

He also shared the Nigerian Governors' Forum's ongoing initiatives, including agricultural investment frameworks, climate adaptation plans, digital farmer registration programmes, integrated rural development corridors, and public-private partnerships aimed at accelerating agricultural growth across the country.

Using Jigawa State and the semi-arid belt of Northern Nigeria as examples, Prof. Gambo highlighted the importance of applied research, innovation, and strong collaboration between governments, polytechnics, research institutions, development partners, and the private sector in addressing contemporary development challenges.

He concluded with a powerful call to action, urging policymakers, researchers, institutions, and development partners to embrace evidence-based decision-making, scale successful innovations, invest in water infrastructure, empower farmers, and support the next generation of agricultural scientists and innovators.

"Nigeria has the land, the water, the people, and the knowledge. What we need is the political will and institutional courage." — Prof. Babagana Abba Gambo

The CSARD 2026 National Conference continues to provide a strategic platform for advancing innovative ideas and practical solutions that will contribute to sustainable development and national resilience in Nigeria.
