The 3rd Assembly of the Oyo State Youth Parliament, under the Oyo State Agency for Youth Development, continues to strengthen its commitment to meaningful stakeholder engagement, strategic collaboration, and initiatives that advance the welfare, development, and responsible participation of young people across Oyo State.
Yesterday, the House paid a courtesy visit to the Nigeria Correctional Service, Oyo State Zonal Command, where members engaged with senior officials on youth incarceration, rehabilitation, reintegration, and the need for stronger support systems for young people within and beyond correctional facilities.
The Correctional Service highlighted its Three Rs approach (Reformation, Rehabilitation and Reintegration), which includes skills acquisition, counselling, education, agricultural programmes, religious activities, empowerment, and efforts to reconnect released inmates with their families and communities.
The engagement also identified opportunities for collaboration between the Youth Parliament and the Correctional Service, particularly in youth sensitisation and advocacy, support for rehabilitation programmes, provision of relevant equipment, and promoting acceptance and reintegration of released inmates into society without stigma.
The Parliament appreciates the leadership and officials of the Nigeria Correctional Service, Oyo State Zonal Command under the leadership of Controller, CC Osogun Cornelius Olusegun, for the warm reception and insightful engagement, and looks forward to translating the discussions into meaningful areas of collaboration.
The House made the courtesy visit alongside members of the Student Council on Legal Aid, University of Ibadan (SCOLA-UI), whose participation further strengthened the legal, civic, and youth-development dimensions of the engagement.
