NALPGAM PAYS COURTESY VISIT TO UCH

The National Association of Liquefied Petroleum Gas Marketers (NALPGAM) paid a courtesy visit to the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, on Thursday, 29th October, 2026, at the Boardroom of the hospital.

The NALPGAM team was introduced to the Management by a Plastic Surgeon and member of the Nigerian Burns and Injuries Society (NBIS), Dr. Kayode Iyun. He said the visit followed a letter written to NALPGAM over the incessant gas explosions in society, with a view to ascertaining the causes of the rampant incidents. He further disclosed that during the last NBIS Scientific Conference, deliberations were held on how to collaborate to prevent gas explosions, including preventive measures and comprehensive management of gas explosion patients in the hospital.

The team lead of NALPGAM, Barrister Edu Inyang, stated that NALPGAM is ready to collaborate with UCH, Ibadan, to reduce the incessant gas explosions. He said members of the association have their plants registered under the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA). He identified the causes of gas explosions to include decayed cylinders, expired cylinders and other unsafe practices.

He added that the association is ready to partner with UCH in advocating policies that will enlighten the public, through campaigns to sensitise people on the safe use of cooking gas cylinders.

The Chief Medical Director, Prof. Jesse Abiodun Otegbayo, warmly welcomed the association to UCH and stressed the need for consumer education to avoid the use of expired gas cylinders.

He further noted that healthcare providers and NALPGAM need to work hand-in-hand with government to formulate policies for monitoring cylinders used by consumers. Prof. Otegbayo also encouraged NALPGAM to establish a project at UCH as part of the association's Corporate Social Responsibility to the hospital and the community.

UCH Public Health Nursing Department Launches 4th Edition of EDUCATOR Magazine .

The Public Health Nursing Department (PHND), University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, has launched the 4th Edition of its official publication, "EDUCATOR" magazine on Tuesday, 27th October, 2026, at Omolola Alade Hall, School of Nursing, UCH, Ibadan.

The theme "PREVENTION: KEY TO WELLNESS".

In her keynote address titled "From Awareness to Action: A Practical Community Roadmap to Optimum Wellness", the keynote speaker, Prof. Funmilola Adenike Faremi Head, Department of Community-Public Health Nursing, OAU, Ile-Ife, described health as a way of living, not just a clinical result.

She said optimum wellness encompasses Physical, Mental, Social, Dignity and Purpose, and noted that deaths from both non-communicable and communicable diseases are largely preventable.

According to her, prevention starts from the home, schools, markets and health centres, and follows the stages of Primordial prevention - stop risks, Primary and Secondary prevention. She described her presentation as a memorable roadmap to prevention.

She said prevention does not stop when government is involved, and government should be encouraged to put more funds in research, workplace and market health, health professionals, schools and leaders, and every community member should show trace and commitment to Know, Act and Share.

Giving a brief review of the 4th Edition, Dr. Olufolajimi Senjobi disclosed that the magazine is 64 pages and is relevant to healthcare, health education and disease prevention.

He noted that the magazine provides an avenue for knowledge sharing, professional reflection and promotion of evidence-based disease prevention practices. He described it as timely and well packaged.

The Host and Head of Department, Mrs. Olanike Adewuyi welcomed guests and said the edition marks not just the unveiling of a publication, but a celebration of shared responsibility to empower individuals and communities to make informed health decisions.

The Chief Medical Director, Prof. Jesse Otegbayo who was the Chief Host in his speech congratulated the Public Health Nursing Department, ably led by Mrs. Olanike Adewuyi, for sustaining the laudable publication to its 4th Edition.

Prof. Otegbayo said in an era where documentation is often neglected, the department has shown consistency, academic commitment and professional pride, and has kept the voice of public health nursing alive in UCH.

He described the theme "PREVENTION: KEY TO WELLNESS" as apt, profound and timely, which captures the very essence of what Public Health Nursing stands for.

"In UCH, as a tertiary institution, we manage complex and advanced diseases. But we all know that the real victory in healthcare is not in the cure, but in prevention. A disease prevented is cheaper than a disease treated. As the saying goes, prevention is better than cure," he said.

He described Public Health Nurses as foot soldiers in the community who teach mothers about immunization, exclusive breastfeeding, hygiene and sanitation, family planning, hypertension and diabetes prevention, noting that they are the bridge between the hospital and the community.

He said the 4th Edition is more than a magazine, but a tool for health education, a repository of knowledge and a testament to the critical role of nurses in achieving Universal Health Coverage and the Sustainable Development Goals.

He encouraged students in the School of Nursing to read the publication, contribute to it and imbibe its message, saying the future of nursing in Nigeria is preventive, community-based care.

On behalf of the Honourable Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Mohammad Ali Pate, CON, the Management, Staff, Students and Patients, he pledged continued support to the department to educate, prevent and promote wellness in communities.

DR. SHORETIRE PAYS COURTESY VISIT TO UCH CMD

The Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment, Dr. Kamil Shoretire paid a courtesy visit to the Chief Medical Director of the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, Prof. Jesse Abiodun Otegbayo.

Dr. Shoretire, who was warmly received by the CMD, said the visit was aimed at strengthening collaboration and fostering a harmonious working relationship between the Ministry and the Hospital.

Prof. Otegbayo, while welcoming the Permanent Secretary and his entourage, appreciated the visit and described it as timely and significant. He reaffirmed the commitment of UCH management to industrial harmony, staff welfare and effective service delivery.

He briefed the Permanent Secretary on the achievements, ongoing reforms and challenges of the hospital, noting that UCH remains committed to providing excellent healthcare services despite emerging challenges.

Dr. Shoretire commended the leadership of Prof. Otegbayo for his giant strides in repositioning the hospital as a centre of excellence in healthcare delivery, training and research. He assured of the Ministry's continued support and partnership.

The visit featured exchange of pleasantries and deliberations on issues of mutual interest.

MEDSERVE MD PAYS COURTESY VISIT TO UCH CMD

The Managing Director of the Nigerian Sovereign Investment Authority (NSIA) MedServe, Dr. Tolu Adewole, paid a courtesy visit to the Chief Medical Director of the University College Hospital, Ibadan, Prof. Jesse Abiodun Otegbayo, in his office.

Dr. Adewole said the visit was to appreciate the management of UCH for its support towards the successful establishment of the MedServe Laboratories and Diagnostic Centre in the hospital. He disclosed that the new facility, which was recently commissioned by the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Mohammed Ali Pate, was designed to provide world-class diagnostic services, enhance cancer care and improve access to quality healthcare for Nigerians.

He commended Prof. Otegbayo for his purposeful leadership and commitment to repositioning UCH as a centre of excellence, adding that the partnership between NSIA MedServe and UCH will further strengthen healthcare delivery, training and research.

In his response, the Chief Medical Director, Prof. Jesse Abiodun Otegbayo, warmly welcomed Dr. Adewole and his team to UCH. He appreciated NSIA MedServe for choosing UCH as one of the benefiting institutions and for its huge investment in healthcare infrastructure in the country.

Prof. Otegbayo stated that the newly commissioned MedServe Laboratories and Diagnostic Centre will significantly bridge the gap in diagnostic services, reduce medical tourism and enhance patient care in the hospital. He assured the hospital management of its continued support and collaboration to ensure optimal utilisation and sustainability of the facility.

He noted that UCH remains committed to partnerships that will improve service delivery and advance its tripartite mandate of clinical service, training and research.

NATIONAL POSTGRADUATE MEDICAL COLLEGE TEAM PAYS COURTESY VISIT TO UCH MANAGEMENT

The accreditation team of the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria, ahead of the accreditation exercise for the departments of Dental surgery, paid a courtesy visit to the management of the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, on Monday, 26th October, 2026,at the Hospital's Boardroom.

The Team Lead, Prof. Olabisi Oderinu, in her address, appreciated the hospital's management for the warm reception accorded them since their arrival. She noted that UCH remains one of the most strategic training institutions in Nigeria and that the reaccreditation exercise of the Residency Training Programme in the five (5) Departments of Dental Surgery is aimed at identifying and improving areas that require attention.

The Chief Medical Director, Prof. Jesse Abiodun Otegbayo, appreciated the team for their commitment to sustaining standards. He assured them of management's full support towards a seamless reaccreditation exercise. He noted that the exercise is not to witch-hunt but to make Dentistry training at UCH better.

UCH CELEBRATES MRS. REBECCA ADEMISOLA ISHABIYI AT 60TH BIRTHDAY AND RETIREMENT CEREMONY

The University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, on Monday, 26th October, 2026, celebrated the 60th birthday and retirement of Mrs. Rebecca Ademisola Ishabiyi, Deputy Director of Nursing (DDN) and Head, Department of Clinical Nursing, in recognition of her 35 years of meritorious service to the Hospital.

The ceremony, held at the Paul Hendrickse Lecture Theatre, UCH, Ibadan, was attended by members of staff, family members, friends and well-wishers who gathered to celebrate her remarkable career and milestone birthday.

The Chairman of the Day, Professor O. E. Awe of the Department of Physics and SERVICOM Focal Officer, UCH, congratulated Mrs. Ishabiyi on the double milestone of attaining 60 years and retiring after 35 years of dedicated service.

He described the celebrant as humble and hardworking, highlighting the demanding nature of the nursing profession. He noted that balancing professional responsibilities with family life as a wife and mother requires considerable dedication, patience and understanding.

Professor Awe appreciated Mr. Ishabiyi, the celebrant's husband, for his support, patience and understanding of the demands of his wife's profession. He encouraged other spouses of nurses to emulate his supportive attitude.

He also commended the Hospital Management, under the leadership of the Chief Medical Director, Prof. Jesse Abiodun Otegbayo, for its commitment to the welfare of the Nursing Department and the entire workforce of UCH.

The Chief Medical Director, who was the Chief Host of the occasion, Prof. Jesse Abiodun Otegbayo, congratulated Mrs. Ishabiyi on attaining 60 years and completing 35 years of dedicated service to the Hospital.

He commended her good character, gentleness and humility, describing these qualities as worthy of emulation. He urged young nurses and other members of staff to follow her example, particularly in their relationships with patients, junior colleagues and other members of staff.
