Senator Uba Sani has received his flag as flag bearer for the 2023 Kaduna state Governorship contest.

PREAMBLE:
The USA is a self-funded Independent Campaign and Lobby Group (ICLG) which promotes the emergence of the best candidate(s) at any given time and level of governance; and in return demands for good governance and better future thereafter.

The deplorable situation in Nigeria, characterized by unjustifiable poverty, high unemployment, insecurity, massive illiteracy and absence of accountability &periodic citizenship engagements call for a visionary rapid response team in positions of leadership.

In view of the above, members of the USA – UBA-SABUWA ADVOCATES, out of patriotism and in exercise of our fundamental rights have decided to create this platform to champion the causes articulated below.

VISION:
Promotion of better lives for Nigerian citizens through the consolidation of democracy, promotion of good governance and entrenchment of sustainable development.

MISSION:
To facilitate the emergence of credible, visionary and patriotic leaders with proven track record of service; and active & conscious citizenry.

To ensure people with the right track records of performance, vision, discipline, team spirit, integrity and hard work are elected into leadership positions.

To mobilize the citizenry in the state to support the candidature of Uba & Sabuwa for Governor and Deputy Governor in 2023.

To raise awareness among the citizenry in the target states on the importance of good governance & accountability.

To mobilize voters on the need for full participation in the Nigerian political activities in year 2023 and beyond.

To work toward attaining stability, security and prosperity of the present and future generations of Nigerians.

To advocate for good governance, social justice, rule of law and an all-inclusive participation and development.

STRUCTURE
a. Field Structure: This is made up of APC loyalists that will work in the open to promote the acceptability and positive voting disposition in the areas of operations of the USA. The Field Structure shall have a three-tiered structure at the National, States and Senatorial Districts with the following offices Chairman, Secretary, Public Relation Officer (at the national level we have Director of Publicity), Youth & Women Leaders.
The team at the senatorial Level shall recruit and work with volunteers at the local government and ward levels.
b. Shadow Structure: The Shadow structure shall be made up of credible and reputable community leaders who might not be APC card carrying members from academia, civil society, religious groups, artisans, professional bodies, business community etc, to serve as focal persons to play the roles of influencers without disclosing their affiliation.

METHODOLOGY
·​Mobilizing direct & indirect support for our deserving candidates.
·​Embark upon campaign, advocacy, outreach and lobby through Town Hall Meetings (THM) and Focused Group Discussion (FGD), both physical and on social media
·​Commission policy research, documentation and dissemination.
·​Partner organizations with similar objectives.

Good governance has 8 major characteristics. It is participatory, consensus oriented, accountable, transparent, responsive, effective and efficient, equitable and inclusive and follows the rule of law. it assures that corruption is minimized, the views of minority are taken into account and the voices of the most vulnerable in society are heard in decision making. it is also responsive to the present and future needs of society.





CHARACTERISTICS OF GOOD GOVERNANCE

PARTICIPATION
Participation by both men and women is a key cornerstone of good governance. Participation could be either direct or through legitimate immediate institutions or representatives. It is important to point out that representative democracy does not necessarily mean that the concerns of the most vulnerable in society would be taken into consideration in decision making. Participation needs to be informed and organize. this means freedom of association and expression on the one hand and an organized civil society on the other hand.

RULE OF LAW
Good governance requires fair legal frameworks that are enforced impartially. It also requires full protection of human rights particularly those on minorities. Impartial enforcement of laws requires an independent judiciary and an impartial an incorruptible police force.

TRANSPARENCY
Transparency means that decisions taken and their enforcement are done in a manner that follows rules and regulations. It also means that information is freely available and directly accessible to those who will be affected by those decisions and their enforcement. It also means enough information is provided and that is provided in easily understandable forms and media.

RESPONSIVENESS
Good governance requires that institutions and processes try to serve all stakeholders within a reasonable time frame.

CONSENSUS ORIENTED
There are several actors and many view points in a given society. Good governance requires mediation of different interests in society to reach a board consensus in society on what is in the best interest of the whole community and how this can be achieved. It also requires a broad and long-term perspective on what is needed for sustainable human development and how to achieve the goals of such development. This can only be the result from an understanding of the historical, cultural and social contexts of a given society or community.
EQUITY AND INCLUSIVENESS
A society’s well being depends on ensuring that all its members feel that they have a stake in it and do not feel excluded from the mainstream of society. This requires all groups , but particularly the most vulnerable, have opportunities to improve or maintain their well being.

EFFECTIVENESS AND EFFICIENCY
Good governance means that the process and institution produce results that meet the needs of society while making the best use of resources at their disposal. The concept of efficiency in the context of good governance also covers the sustainable use of natural resources and the protection of the environment.

ACCOUNTABILITY
Accountability is a key requirement of good governance. not only governmental institutions but also the private sector and civil society organizations must be accountable to the public and their institution stakeholders. Who is accountable to whom varies depending on whether decision or action taken are internal or external to an organization or institution. In general an organization or an institution is accountable to those who will be affected by its decision or actions/inactions.



CONCLUSION
From the above discussion it should be clear that good governance is an ideal which is achievable in the totality with a willing and able leadership. Many countries and societies have come close to achieving good governance in its totality. However, to ensure sustainable human development, actions must be taken to work toward this ideal with the aim of making it a reality.
