NIGERIA AT 66: HE LT GEN AMB AB DAMBAZAU CALLS FOR UNITY, PATRIOTISM AND SHARED NATIONAL PURPOSE

Beijing, People's Republic of China — 1 October 2026

On the occasion of Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary, HE Lt Gen Abdulrahman Bello Dambazau, CFR, PhD, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to the People’s Republic of China, extends warm greetings and best wishes to Nigerians at home and across the world.

The Ambassador described Independence Day as a moment to reflect on Nigeria’s shared history, collective identity and common responsibility to build a stronger, more peaceful and prosperous nation.

“Independence is not only a celebration of our national symbols; it is a call to renewed commitment, responsible citizenship and service to our country,” he stated.

Ambassador Dambazau urged Nigerians to look ahead with greater determination by strengthening institutions, expanding economic opportunities, promoting peace and unity, empowering young people, and harnessing the nation’s human and natural resources for sustainable national development.

As Nigeria’s Ambassador to the People’s Republic of China, he reaffirmed his commitment to advancing Nigeria’s national interests through strategic diplomacy, stronger economic partnerships, investment, technology transfer, education, infrastructure development and meaningful people-to-people relations.

He noted that Nigeria’s engagement with the international community must continue to translate into tangible opportunities for Nigerians, stronger productive capacity and a more effective position for the country in the global economy.

“At this important moment in our national journey, I call on all Nigerians to embrace patriotism, unity, responsibility and service,” the Ambassador said. “Patriotism is reflected in how we treat one another, protect public institutions and national assets, uphold the law, contribute to our communities, and place the long-term interest of Nigeria above narrow personal interests.”

He emphasized that every Nigerian, whether at home or abroad, has a role to play in building the Nigeria the nation desires.

“Let us believe in Nigeria. Let us work for Nigeria. Let us protect Nigeria. Let us build Nigeria together.”

Ambassador Dambazau further stated that Nigeria’s diversity remains a source of strength, while its young people remain among its greatest assets. He called for continued collective commitment towards building a peaceful, prosperous, united and globally respected Nigeria.

As Nigeria marks 66 years of nationhood, resilience and hope, the Ambassador urged citizens to celebrate the country’s achievements, learn from its journey and renew their commitment to a brighter national future.

Happy 66th Independence Anniversary, Nigeria.

May Almighty Allah continue to guide, protect and bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria and all her citizens.

May God Bless Nigeria.

AMBASSADOR DAMBAZAU VISITS CNEEC HEADQUARTERS IN BEIJING, EXPLORES NEW FRONTIERS IN ENERGY, INFRASTRUCTURE AND HEALTHCARE COOPERATION 🇳🇬🇨🇳

His Excellency Lt Gen Ambassador Abdulrahman Bello Dambazau, CFR, PhD, paid a strategic visit to the headquarters of China National Electric Engineering Co., Ltd. (CNEEC) in Beijing, where he held discussions on opportunities to deepen Nigeria–China cooperation in energy, infrastructure, environmental technology and healthcare.

Founded in 1979, CNEEC has developed extensive international experience in engineering and energy projects, with a growing presence across Asia and Africa. Its connection to the China National Machinery Industry Corporation (SINOMACH) further places it within one of China’s major industrial groups.

CNEEC is also the company behind Nigeria’s 700MW Zungeru Hydroelectric Power Project, one of the country’s major investments in hydropower infrastructure.

TURNING WASTE INTO ENERGY

A major area of discussion was the potential application of waste-to-energy technology in Nigeria—an approach that could address two challenges simultaneously: improving urban waste management while generating useful electricity from waste.

For Nigeria, such solutions could support cleaner and more sustainable cities while contributing to the diversification of the national energy mix. Where technically and economically viable, converting municipal waste into energy can create value from materials that would otherwise become an environmental burden.

Ambassador Dambazau emphasised the importance of exploring practical partnerships that can contribute to stable electricity, cleaner cities, industrial development and economic productivity.

Reliable electricity remains fundamental to Nigeria’s industrialisation. Improved power supply can strengthen manufacturing, agro-processing, healthcare, technology, small and medium-sized enterprises and other productive sectors by supporting more predictable operations, reducing dependence on costly alternative power sources and improving the environment for investment.

EXPLORING HEALTHCARE COOPERATION

The discussions also extended to the healthcare sector, particularly opportunities for collaboration in the development of hospitals and laboratories in Nigeria.

Such cooperation could potentially support the expansion of healthcare infrastructure, technical capacity, modern laboratory services and technology deployment, while creating opportunities for knowledge exchange and skills development.

The broader objective is to encourage partnerships that go beyond the delivery of projects to include technology transfer, capacity building, local participation and sustainable development.

Ambassador Dambazau’s engagement with CNEEC reflects the Embassy’s continuing effort to connect Nigeria with Chinese expertise, technology and investment opportunities in sectors capable of supporting national development.

From Waste to Energy.
From Energy to Industrialisation.
From Infrastructure to Economic Growth.
From Partnership to Sustainable Development.

AMBASSADOR DAMBAZAU TAKES NIGERIA’S ECONOMIC VISION TO THE GLOBAL DIGITAL TRADE STAGE

Nigeria’s Voice, Opportunities and China–Nigeria Economic Partnership Highlighted at Africa Digital Trade Day

His Excellency Lt Gen Ambassador Abdulrahman Bello Dambazau, CFR, PhD, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to the People’s Republic of China, has taken Nigeria’s economic and trade interests to the global stage at the 5th Global Digital Trade Expo in Hangzhou, China.

Ambassador Dambazau participated in the Africa Digital Trade Day, held under the theme, “China–Africa Digital Intelligence: Empowering Digital Trade through Industrial Parks Matchmaking.”

At the international platform, the Nigerian Ambassador delivered a presentation titled, “National Strategies and Market Prospects for China–Nigeria Economic and Trade Cooperation,” placing Nigeria’s economic opportunities and bilateral cooperation with China at the centre of discussions on digital trade, innovation, industrial development and international market connectivity.

The significance of the occasion extends beyond the conference hall. With the Global Digital Trade Expo bringing together participants from more than 120 countries and international organisations, Nigeria’s presence provides an important platform for presenting the country’s market potential and exploring new pathways for trade, investment, technology cooperation and industrial partnerships.

Ambassador Dambazau’s participation reflects an approach to diplomacy that places economic opportunity alongside political and diplomatic representation. Through platforms such as this, Nigeria can engage Chinese and international stakeholders around areas of mutual interest, including digital transformation, industrial parks, technology-enabled trade, investment and stronger private-sector connections.

For Nigeria, the growing digital economy presents opportunities to expand beyond traditional patterns of trade and strengthen the participation of Nigerian enterprises in emerging global value chains. China’s digital trade ecosystem and industrial capabilities also provide areas for knowledge exchange and potential cooperation.

The Ambassador’s role at the forum further demonstrates the importance of active economic diplomacy in translating Nigeria’s international relationships into practical opportunities for businesses, investors, innovators and institutions.

From the Nigerian flag displayed prominently on the global stage to the presentation of Nigeria’s economic outlook before an international audience, the message is clear: Nigeria is present, Nigeria is engaging, and Nigeria is positioning its interests within the rapidly evolving global digital economy.

REPRESENTING NIGERIA. BUILDING PARTNERSHIPS. OPENING OPPORTUNITIES.

As Nigeria’s representative in China, Ambassador Dambazau continues to use diplomatic platforms to connect Nigeria with opportunities in trade, investment, technology, industrial development and international cooperation.

The Africa Digital Trade Day engagement adds another dimension to Nigeria–China economic diplomacy and reinforces the importance of building partnerships that can create sustainable value for both countries.

Ambassador Dambazau Champions Nigeria’s Blue Economy Vision at 2026 Global Ocean Development Forum in Qingdao 🇳🇬🌊🇨🇳

From Beijing to Qingdao: Taking Nigeria’s Maritime Development Agenda to the Global Stage

In a journey that highlights China’s remarkable high-speed rail infrastructure, His Excellency Lt Gen Ambassador Abdulrahman Bello Dambazau, CFR, PhD, travelled from Beijing to Qingdao aboard a high-speed train travelling at approximately 300 km/h to participate in the 2026 Global Ocean Development Forum, a major international platform for advancing global cooperation in ocean science, sustainable marine development and the blue economy.

The 2026 Ocean Cooperation and Development Forum, themed “From Azure Depths to a Shared Future. Developing a Sustainable Marine Economy for a Beautiful and Prosperous Ocean,” brought together stakeholders to explore innovative approaches to marine sustainability and international cooperation.

Addressing the Forum, Ambassador Dambazau emphasised that Nigeria’s blue economy is not a luxury, but a strategic necessity for the nation’s future prosperity. He highlighted its potential to provide food security, create employment for young Nigerians and support energy and industrial development.

The Ambassador commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s vision in establishing a dedicated Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy, describing the initiative as an important step towards unlocking Nigeria’s vast maritime potential.

Drawing from China’s progress in marine science and environmental protection, Ambassador Dambazau highlighted the ongoing collaboration between the Federal University of Technology, Akure, Ondo State, and the Ocean University of China in Qingdao, particularly their work towards establishing a joint laboratory for river delta research.

He further noted that Africa’s extensive coastline and abundant marine resources present significant opportunities, alongside serious challenges including pollution, overfishing, climate change and the degradation of marine habitats.

Because these challenges transcend national boundaries, the Ambassador stressed the importance of collective action and stronger international cooperation. He referenced the African Union’s inclusion of the blue economy in Agenda 2063, highlighting the potential for China–Africa cooperation to translate this continental vision into practical development outcomes.

Ambassador Dambazau reaffirmed that the enduring friendship between Nigeria and China provides a strong foundation for expanding cooperation in marine science, environmental protection, research, technology and sustainable economic development.

Ambassador Dambazau Brings Strategic Defence Expertise to CIDEX 2026, Advancing Nigeria’s Security and Defence Cooperation 🇳🇬🇨🇳

His Excellency Lt Gen Ambassador Abdulrahman Bello Dambazau, CFR, PhD, Ambassador of Nigeria to the People’s Republic of China and former Chief of Army Staff, participated in the China International Defence Electronics Exhibition (CIDEX 2026) in Beijing.

For an Ambassador with extensive experience in military leadership, national security and strategic planning, participation in a leading defence-technology exhibition carries significance beyond diplomatic representation. It provides an opportunity to closely observe emerging technologies and assess how advances in defence electronics, communications, surveillance, intelligence systems, unmanned technologies and other security capabilities could contribute to strengthening Nigeria’s defence architecture.

Ambassador Dambazau’s military background gives him a unique perspective in engaging with China’s defence and technology ecosystem. His presence creates room for strategic conversations around technology transfer, capacity development, local manufacturing, research and development, training and stronger institutional cooperation—areas that can help Nigeria progressively build greater indigenous defence capability.

Of particular importance is the opportunity to move beyond a conventional buyer–seller relationship towards partnerships that enable Nigerian institutions and industries to acquire knowledge, develop technical expertise, manufacture locally and sustain critical defence systems.

Such cooperation could support Nigeria’s efforts to modernise its armed forces, enhance situational awareness and intelligence capabilities, strengthen border and territorial security, improve communication systems and develop the technical capacity required to respond to evolving security threats.

Ambassador Dambazau’s participation therefore reflects a broader diplomatic strategy: using Nigeria’s engagement with China not only to strengthen bilateral relations, but also to identify practical pathways through which technology, expertise and strategic partnerships can contribute to Nigeria’s national security and defence objectives.

With his experience as a former Chief of Army Staff and his understanding of contemporary security challenges, Ambassador Dambazau remains well positioned to connect diplomacy, defence expertise and technological opportunity in pursuit of Nigeria’s national interest.

From Defence Diplomacy to Defence Capability.
From Technology Access to Technology Transfer.
From Strategic Partnerships to a Stronger Nigeria. 🇳🇬🤝🇨🇳

Ambassador Dambazau Deepens Engagement with Côte d’Ivoire, Strengthens African Diplomatic Cooperation 🇳🇬🇨🇮🇨🇳

In continuation of his strategic engagement with African Ambassadors in China, His Excellency Lt Gen Ambassador Abdulrahman Bello Dambazau, CFR, PhD, Ambassador of Nigeria to the People’s Republic of China, paid a courtesy visit to the Ambassador of the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire to China.

The engagement provided an opportunity to exchange perspectives on strengthening Nigeria–Côte d’Ivoire relations, deepening African solidarity and advancing shared interests within the broader China–Africa partnership.

As two leading West African countries with strong historical, economic and regional ties, Nigeria and Côte d’Ivoire have important roles to play in promoting peace, stability, trade, investment and sustainable development across the continent.

The discussions also reflected the growing importance of African diplomatic coordination in China, particularly through the Group of African Ambassadors in China (GAAC) and the Forum on China–Africa Cooperation (FOCAC).

Ambassador Dambazau’s continued outreach to fellow African Ambassadors demonstrates his proactive approach to diplomacy, strengthening relationships, building consensus and contributing to a stronger African voice in global affairs.
