AREWA YOUTH SPARK
A craver for radical change
Young people (roughly 18-35) bring fresh perspectives, energy, and a stake in long-term issues like climate change, economic inequality, and tech regulation. In 2025, they make up a huge chunk of the global population—about 1.8 billion people are under 30. Yet, their political engagement often lags. For example, in the U.S., only about 50% of 18-29-year-olds voted in the 2020 presidential election, compared to 71% of those over 65 (Census Bureau data). Low participation means policies skew toward older generations’ priorities, leaving youth issues underfunded or ignored. We need more youth participation into politics. Political participation is much broader and includes a range of activities that allow young people to engage with and influence the systems that affect their lives. Here’s a breakdown of what it means and why it matters: Highlights
