Diphtheria Vaccination Drive.

Students of Rollybest Academy, No. 19 Sani Giwa Street, Sabon Gari, were at the diphtheria at the Diphtheria Treatment Centre (DTC) for vaccination. They were directed to Immunization Unit of the Infectious Disease Hospital (IDH). The Director-General (DG) of KNCDC was in attendance and actively mobilized the students to receive the vaccine by engaging school authorities and sensitizing the students on the safety and importance of vaccination.

Vaccination is vital to school health, as it protects students and staff, prevents outbreaks, reduces transmission, and strengthens community immunity. KNCDC continues to prevent and suppress diphtheria outbreaks through surveillance, immunization, case management, contact tracing, and public risk communication.

Call to Action

The DG, KNCDC, urges all other eligible schools across Kano State to bring their students to the DTC Immunization Unit, IDH, for diphtheria vaccination. The vaccine is safe, free, and essential for protecting students, staff, and the wider community. School authorities should act now do not wait for an outbreak.

Protect your school. Vaccinate your students today.

OFFICIAL COMMUNIQUÉ: KANO STATE DIPHTHERIA OUTBREAK RESPONSE REVIEW
Public Health Emergency Operations Centre (PHEOC), KNCDC Complex | 2nd October, 2026

Today, the Kano State Government convened a high-level strategic debrief and performance review of the Diphtheria Outbreak Response (OBR) at the PHEOC, KNCDC Complex.

The meeting was chaired at the highest political and technical level, with the distinguished presence of the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health; the Director-General, KNCDC; the National Rapid Response Team (NRRT); NPHCDA; SPHCMB; AKTH; and our critical development partners - WHO, UNICEF, GGHN, CGPP, and other pillars of the Incident Management System.

The brief provided a comprehensive epidemiological and operational appraisal of the response architecture. While significant gains were recorded in case management, surveillance, and community engagement, the forum subjected systemic bottlenecks to rigorous interrogation.

The following priority needs were highlighted

1. Strengthening of the Governance and Coordination Architecture for a unified, accountable response;
2. Full Funding and Operationalization of the Incident Action Plan (IAP) as a binding instrument;
3. Institutionalization of Timely, Data-Driven Reporting and real-time information sharing;
4. Immediate Commodity Replenishment and Supply Chain Resilience for DAT, antibiotics and vaccines;
5. Optimization of Laboratory Systems - from sample collection, transportation and management to result turnaround;
6. Unified, Evidence-Based Risk Communication and Community Engagement (RCCE) under one strategic voice;
7. A Synchronized and Coordinated Vaccination Strategy to close immunity gaps across at-risk LGAs.

The KNCDC reiterates that the protection of the lives of our citizens remains non-negotiable. We commend our frontline health workers and partners for their sacrifice and reaffirm our resolve to decisively interrupt transmission.
