NSIRS Commits Staff to Modern Tax Audit System to Strengthen Personnel Capacity

The Nasarawa State Internal Revenue Service (NSIRS), under the leadership of its Executive Chairman, Ibrahim Adamu Sarki, FCNA, FCTI, PhD (in view), has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening the capacity of its workforce in modern tax audit and administration as part of efforts to ensure the effective and continuous implementation of the new tax laws in the state.

The Executive Chairman stated this during the official opening of a three-day capacity-building training organised for staff of the Service, noting that the programme was designed to enhance the technical knowledge, professional competence and practical skills of personnel in critical areas of tax administration.

He explained that the training places particular emphasis on modern tax audit practices, tax investigation, auditing of Local Government Councils, revenue assessment and the effective implementation of the new tax laws.

The training also provides participants with an opportunity to deepen their understanding of contemporary approaches to tax audit and investigation, thereby strengthening the Service's capacity to accurately identify tax obligations, improve voluntary compliance and ensure that revenue due to government is properly assessed, collected and accounted for.

The first day of the programme featured technical presentations, interactive sessions and knowledge-sharing engagements led by distinguished academics and professionals with expertise in taxation, revenue management and public finance.

Among the resource persons were Professor A.D. Zubairu, former Chairman of NSIRS; Professor S.A.S. Aruwa; and Professor S.M. Aza.

The facilitators provided participants with practical insights into tax audit procedures, investigation techniques, revenue assessment and the application of the new tax laws within the evolving tax administration framework.
