AGILE Delegation Applauds Nasarawa’s Progress on Girl-Child Education Projects.

A high-level delegation from the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) has successfully concluded a comprehensive three-day field assessment of ongoing projects across Nasarawa State. The mission served as a critical monitoring exercise aimed at evaluating the quality of implementation and ensuring that all activities remain aligned with the initiative’s core mandate of empowering the girl-child.

The visiting team, which included technical experts, the Bank Lead for Rehabilitation and Renovation, the Lead for Life Skills, Environmental and Social (E&S) specialists, and the NPCU Consultant for Component 1.2, conducted extensive inspections across Akwanga, Nasarawa-Eggon, Lafia, and Doma Local Government Areas. The assessment focused on verifying that infrastructure upgrades and school renovation works meet approved standards for safe and conducive learning environments.

Beyond infrastructure, the delegation also assessed key socio-educational interventions under the project. The team monitored Alternative Education classes, Safe Space sessions, and Digital Skills , while engaging directly with beneficiaries of the Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT) initiative. These interventions remain central to the AGILE project, as they provide adolescent girls with essential life skills and expanded educational opportunities beyond the conventional classroom setting.

Community stakeholders expressed satisfaction with the impact of the project. In separate remarks, the Chairman of the School-Based Management Committee (SBMC) of GSS Akwanga Central, Mr. Gambo Othman Safiyanul, and Mallam Salihu Usman Marafa, of GSS Odorogye, Doma, commended the AGILE initiative for complementing government efforts in providing quality and accessible education. They noted that the intervention has contributed significantly to the return of out-of-school adolescent girls to the classroom and pledged sustained community ownership and support for the projects.

During an interactive session with the State Project Implementation Unit (SPIU), the delegation commended the Nasarawa State Government and the Project Steering Committee for the progress recorded so far. The team, however, advised the SPIU to carefully address all technical observations raised during the visit to ensure the successful attainment of the project’s objectives.

Responding on behalf of the state, the AGILE State Project Coordinator, Hajiya Aishatu Aliyu Isoga, appreciated the delegation for the visit, describing the exercise as an important step toward strengthening project delivery in the state. She assured the team of the SPIU’s commitment to implementing all recommendations and necessary adjustments ahead of subsequent monitoring exercises.

The outcome of the three-day assessment will guide the next phase of project implementation. As Nasarawa State continues to prioritize the education and empowerment of the girl-child, the AGILE project remains a key component of the state’s strategy to improve secondary education through modernized infrastructure and specialized learning interventions.

Nasarawa State AGILE Project Trains 100 Health Care Providers on Adolescent and Youth-Friendly Services.

The Nasarawa State Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) Project has organized a three-day training for health care providers on adolescent and youth-friendly health service provision.

The training, held under Component 2.2A – Life Skills, brought together 100 selected participants, from the State primary health care facilities across the 13 Local Government Areas of the state.

Speaking during the opening session, the State AGILE Project Coordinator, Hajiya Aishatu Aliyu Isoga, represented by the Deputy Project Coordinator, Mrs. Juliana Polycarp*, emphasized that the training was designed to address issues affecting adolescents, particularly adolescent girls who are at a vulnerable stage of life. She urged participants to pay close attention, learn new ideas, and adopt innovative approaches to better support young people.

She noted that at the end of the intensive three-day program, participants would be better informed and equipped with modern techniques to handle adolescent and youth-related health issues in their respective Workplaces.

The National Component Lead for Life Skills, Mr. Abraham Sunday, who also served as lead facilitator, encouraged participants to embrace three key principles: *be open to learning new things, be ready to relearn, and be willing to unlearn practices that are not right*.

He stressed that change begins with health providers themselves, urging them to accommodate all adolescents who seek care, not only those referred from schools.

Other speakers included Representatives of the State Reproductive Health Coordinator, Mrs. Anita, who highlighted the opportunity the training provides for both new and experienced providers, and the State Life Skills Component Lead, Mrs. Morgan Mildred, who charged participants to justify their selection by becoming ambassadors of adolescent-friendly health services.

The training reflects AGILE’s commitment to strengthening life skills, promoting adolescent health, and ensuring that young people across Nasarawa State have access to supportive, responsive, and inclusive health services.

Nasarawa Education Commissioner Receives AGILE NPCU Delegation.

A high-level delegation from the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) National Project Coordinating Unit (NPCU) has arrived in Nasarawa State for a two-day assessment of climate change impacts on educational infrastructure.

The mission, led by Mrs. Felicia Abuka, NPCU Deputy Project Coordinator and National Component Lead for System Strengthening, alongside National Components Consultant Dr. Simeon Ogbonna, aims to review the implementation of climate-responsive components within the state’s secondary schools.

The delegation was received by the Nasarawa State AGILE Project Coordinator, Hajiya Aishatu Aliyu Isoga, and her deputy, Mrs. Juliana Polycarp, before proceeding to the office of the State Commissioner for Education, Dr John DW Mamman.

During the reception, Dr. Mamman expressed optimism that the visit would further energize the state’s commitment to the project, noting that the national team’s presence puts the state on the "right track" to benefit immensely from the initiative.

Dr. Mamman explained that AGILE complements Governor Abdullahi Sule’s human capital development agenda. He highlighted that even before joining the AGILE program, Nasarawa had established a Directorate of Human Capital Development to support young people through skills acquisition and self-reliance programs. This existing framework, he noted, creates a seamless synergy with the goals of the AGILE project.

In her remarks, Mrs. Abuka said the field visit was prompted by reports from participating states on their climate change initiatives. The national team will conduct on-site inspections of selected secondary schools to evaluate their readiness for climate-related challenges and provide technical guidance where needed.

Mrs. Abuka also lauded the state’s leadership, specifically praising Governor Sule for the visible transformation of Nasarawa through landmark infrastructure projects, including the ultra-modern state secretariat and improved road networks.

She further commended the State Component Lead, Mrs. Juliana Polycarp, for her diligent work in driving the project forward. “She is doing very well, and the state is performing impressively. Other states can learn from the strategies being implemented here,” Mrs. Abuka said.

The visit is expected to conclude following a comprehensive review of school-level interventions designed to ensure that climate challenges do not hinder the progress of girl-child education in the state.

In his remarks, the Commissioner for Education, John Mamman, commended AGILE for its strategic interventions in teaching and learning across the state.

He urged participants to take full advantage of the training to improve productivity and efficiency in the use of education data.

Mamman also reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to utilizing reliable data for effective planning, monitoring, and coordination of educational programmes.
