FROM GRANDSTANDING TO ACCOUNTABILITY: Simon Ekpa's Journey from Social Media Fame to Prison

By Kamen Chuks Ogbonna

Finland is rated as one of the safest countries in the world.

In fact, Finland is only second to Iceland in safety rating in the world as a result of its very low crime rate, stable political environment, and high level of trust in public institutions.

Finland's key economic sector is manufacturing. The largest industries are electronics, machinery, vehicles and other engineered metal products, forest industry, and chemicals.

Finland has timber and several mineral and freshwater resources.

That is the country that Ebonyi State-born Simon Ekpa took up its citizenship and was enjoying its profound peaceful environment while deliberately fueling insecurity in the Southeast region of Nigeria and making money while at it.

When Nigeria made a formal complaint to the Finnish government over the activities of Mr Simon Ekpa,

The country initially investigated him and arrested him for the crime of crowdfunding with the evidence sourced from his videos online,

Nigerians were clearly dissatisfied with this and demanded for his extradition and prosecution for terrorism.

The Finland government sent a response to Nigeria to bring evidence to use in supporting the allegations against him, especially as he is a Finnish citizen.

The office of the National security adviser set up a six man team headed by a lady who is a special adviser in the office of the NSA. Also selected were one person each from the police, DSS, NIA and two other security agencies.

The committee was saddled with the responsibility of gathering evidence of Simon Ekpa's atrocities across the states in the South-East region.

These include cases reported at the police formations in the zone.

The thorough and painstaking manner with which the 6 man committee approached the assignment is indeed worthy of applause and commendation.

After visiting the states in the Southeast and gathering these pieces of evidence, they sent a comprehensive report back to the Finnish authorities.

Based on this report, Finland immediately approved the relocation of Simon Ekpa from a low security facility and to a maximum security prison, and that was when it dawned on Ekpa that there was fire on the mountain.

With his conviction for terrorism, the Ngbo, Ohaukwu Local Government Area-born rabble rouser has made history as the first African and the third person in history to be convicted for terrorism in the otherwise peaceful Finland.

He was found guilty of using his social media accounts to incite terror acts in Nigeria, seeking the independence of Biafra through illegal means, tax fraud, and violating the lawyer's Act. Simon Ekpa, the self-appointed prime minister of Biafra, worked as a paralegal in Finland.

The implication of this is that he will lose his citizenship after serving his six year jail term and will be extradited to Nigeria to face trial for his crimes.

The speed with which the trial and conviction of Mr Ekpa in Finland was handled is a clear indictment on Nigeria who has been unable to make headway with the trial of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu since he was renditioned from Kenya some years back.

For any society to function appropriately, whether as a country, state, or community,

It must have strong institutions, rich cultural heritage, and people in charge of these institutions who are committed to sustainable values and development.

Finland is famous for its dedication to sustainability, rich heritage, and beautiful landscapes.

Finland's high ranking as a peaceful country is due to its low crime rates, stable political environment, and high level of trust in institutions.

The frightened look on the face of Simon Ekpa as he was handed his sentence should serve as a lesson to people who allow themselves to be led astray with what they watch on social media.

The Ngbo-born young man who was busy grandstanding and dishing out instructions with his social media handle as the supposed Prime Minister of the 'autopilot Biafra' while collecting donations from our misguided brothers abroad had the temerity to tell the Finnish court that he was a mere content creator.

The conviction of Mr Simon Ekpa should serve as a wake up call on those communities still supporting and harbouring miscreants masquerading as freedom fighters to, as a matter of urgency, rise up and assist the security agencies in getting rid of them.

The carnage, destruction of properties, and bloodshed that the activities of these criminals have wrecked on the region will take us several years to recover from.

In fact, it will require appeasement of land for Ala Igbo to settle the weeping souls of the thousands of its youths whose lives got cut short while the insecurity lasted.

I, for one, never believed that an Igbo man would relocate to the forest under any guise to commence the killing and kidnap of his own people.

That is why there is a need for moderation on the use of social media platforms.

I sincerely think the cyber law recently passed in Nigeria should be strictly implemented by the security agencies as a matter of urgency.

The poor acquire liabilities while the Rich acquire assets.

Dangote is Multi billionaire..
He has 3 biological children

Otedola another Multi billionaire
4 kids..

Abdulsamad BUA is a Multi billionaire
He has 4 kids..

These are rich men that can afford to have 100 wives and over 1000 kids and still train all of them in world class school with humongous wealth to take them beyond a lifetime.....

Okeke the palm wine tapper
12 kids

Adedoyin the bus driver
10 kids

Abduralman the shoe maker
18 kids..

It's a common trend among the poor across Nigeria....
They bite more than they can chew and blame the world for failing them,
They produce kids they can't train and turn around to blame the innocent rich men for abandoning them..
They encouraged the helpless kids they brought to suffer to hate the world, hate the rich, steal from them,
Blame Lord Lugard who died over hundred years ago for putting them in poverty..

Luxembourg is the Richest country per Capita on Earth... It's average fertility rate is 1.2 children per woman...

The US is the richest country on Earth, it's average fertility rate is 1.4 children per woman...
This is the trend in every rich countries

South Sudan is the poorest country on Earth it's average fertility rate is 3.9 kids per woman...

Nigeria is the poverty capital of the world...
It's average fertility rate is 4.8 kids per woman

It's a pattern ... The rich countries that have the enormous wealth to cater for 100 kids per woman
are tired of producing kids... The poor countries that lack the resources to cater for those that are breathing are manufacturing hundreds of kids to come and join the queue of poverty and suffering.

The rich countries are proud of their wealth... The poor countries are proud of their population...

Only the poor man give birth to 20 kids and boast that one will become a governor one day without investing nothing on them...
Most of this unfortunate kids often unleashed their frustration on the country instead of their parents who produced them without any welfare plan..

Poor countries won't develop with the mindset of adding more kids to the long list of their suffering population...
This is where the religious leaders need to come..

We must kill the mentality of " go to the world and multiply". The available resources is not multiplying....

Some ethnic groups tells you, child is wealth...

There is nothing wealth in a child who kill a fellow child to make money...

A child who kidnap other children to make money is a huge liability to the world....

All the criminals in the bushes, moving with weapons in the night looking for who to rob, sitting in front of computer looking for who to defraud are products of Yusless parents..
Who think the only thing they owe their kids is just to give birth to them...

10 terrorists killed in north, 20 kidnappers killed in East.... Our everyday news, humans who became monsters, dying in hundreds everyday with new ones born to replace them by irresponsible parents...

Transforming a nation starts from the family.... Sadly so many parents in NGR are not qualified to raise kids...

You Didn’t Just ā€˜Inherit’ Diabetes. You Ate It.

His name is Mr. Johnson.
He was 51 when his left toe turned black.

He thought it was from hitting a chair.
But the doctor said:
ā€œGangrene. We might need to ampỄtate.ā€

He broke down.
ā€œI don’t smoke. I don’t drink. I only take malt and bread. What did I do wrong?ā€

What did he do wrong?

Nobody told him that malt is liquid sugar.
Nobody told him that bread is broken down into glucose in minutes.
Nobody told him that every morning he skipped protein and loaded his body with fast carbs… he was digging his own grąve with a spoon.

Nobody told him the bitter truth:

Diabetes is not a sugar disease. It’s a metabolism failure.

It’s your body screaming,
ā€œI can’t handle this load anymore.ā€

By the time blood sugar rises,
It means the insulin resistance has been happening silently for 10–15 years.

This is not just about sweets.
It’s about how often your body is forced to respond to a sugar bomb.

Diabetes is a slow war.
And most Nigerians don’t even know they’re under attack.

Mr. Johnson didn’t just take medicine.
He made changes.
And his foot was saved.

Because we stopped the metabolic decay before it swallowed more.

If you’ve been told ā€œyou’re prediabetic,ā€ take it seriously.
If you’re diabetic, there is still a chance.
But the solution is not inside medication alone.

It’s in the kitchen.
It’s in your plate.
It’s in your food order.

Don’t forget to reach out for a diet plan.

SOCIAL MEDIA MOCKERY OF SCHOLARS

So Habeeb Hamzat (born 10 May 2005), known popularly as Peller has been trending for some days on how he called scholars for an interview to make mockery of them.
Peller ,This is not written to condemn you, but to clarify what your viral moment truly revealed.
Personally I’m not a fan and I don’t consume his content but indeed I admire his success and hustling strategy but I don’t appreciate his mindset.āœļø

Peller offered a ₦500,000 camera job and said applicants must have a Master’s degree.
They showed up.
You filmed them.
Then you edited the footage and turned their presence into performance.
The internet laughed. You trended.
But the joke did not expose the scholars.
It exposed a cultural sickness and perhaps a quiet insecurity masked as confidence.

You didn’t need scholars for a job.
You needed them for content.

You used the dignity of their degrees to lift the illusion of your own relevance.
But success that depends on someone else’s shame is not success.
It is insecurity with a spotlight.

You filmed scholars who wanted work, using tools invented by people who once at a point in time sat through lectures, took exams, earned degrees, and chose to build.

The platform that made you trend, TikTok, was founded by Zhang Yiming, a Chinese software engineer who graduated from Nankai University in 2005 with a degree in software engineering.

The algorithms that gave you views were built by developers trained in Python, C++, machine learning, and data architecture.
The camera you held was designed by engineers who studied optics and system integration. As a cyber security /Data analyst ,I speak with maximum analysis.
The monetisation you enjoy is powered by business models drafted by analysts with deep backgrounds in economics, policy, and communication systems.

You mocked the scholars whom came for your.
But you owe your visibility to the very minds you mocked.

To the scholars who stood in line that day, it’s a lesson to encourage sober reflection…
You were not props. You were people.
And history will remember who stood with dignity when the crowd laughed.

To the custodians of education in Nigeria, the silence is becoming permissive,

When scholars are mocked and no institution speaks, you give the impression that dignity is negotiable.
Education cannot be a national pillar on paper and a national punchline in practice.

If universities will not defend those they trained, who will?

And to undergraduate, those studying in dim rooms, those waking early to walk to class, those sitting in crowded lecture halls with flickering lights, let this not discourage you.
I speak as a graduate as I understand the pain accompanied.
You are not wasting your time. You are laying a foundation.
Your effort is not invisible. It is simply not trending yet.

ā€œA fool takes no pleasure in understanding, but only in expressing his opinion.ā€ — Proverbs 18:2

Education was never just about getting a job. It was about capacity.
The ability to build systems. To challenge ignorance. To offer solutions.
You don’t need to trend to be relevant. And relevance that requires someone else’s humiliation will never last.

Let this moment remind us that EDUCATION IS NEVER A SCAM!!!
