*Polio: An Affliction of the Ignorant, Poor and Religious Bigots*

By Bulus Moses Gabi

It is heartwarming that polio has been wiped off from Nigeria. This was reported by the World Health Organisation last week.
Polio is a disease of the poor and the ignorant. For decades it has been wiped off in the Western world. This is an enlightened world where ignorance and superstition have been kicked by knowledge and enlightenment.
But Africa is a dark continent further darkened and blinded by a hopelessly rotten leadership, that steals, loots and impoverishes the people. The import of this is that Africa is the poorest continent in the world.
The northern elite in Nigeria are a scourge and albatross, a debilitating immobilism for the masses of the North in its march towards enlightenment and progress. They brainwashed their people that polio is a depopulation mechanism by the infidels. Hence, the north has the highest cases of polio in the country. Any Nigerian patriot must vehemently fight for free and compulsory education in the north. Its backward and selfish leadership must be routed out. Their southern counterparts are not better though. They must also suffer the same fate.

*The Boko Haram Insurgency and the Attacks on Worship Centres*

By Bulus Moses Gabi

In the field of strategic studies and under the Geneva Convention, certain places and individuals are immune from attack. Hospitals, places of worship, women, children and the elderly are exempted from assaults. Even when an enemy territory has fallen, the Victor must guarantee the safety of these places and individuals.
The only ground of attack of these places is when they are used as bases for attack on the other belligerent forces.
Since, the beginning of the Boko Haram insurgency, no church and mosque has been reportedly used by the Nigerian government and people to attack these violent extremists.
In the last one week, 42 Muslim worshippers have been killed in the the Maiduguri Mosques and about 86 have been severely injured.
These attacks are important in one sense. The Boko Haram fighters are not Muslims but sheer criminals and blood thirsty demagogues.
But then, some Nigerians and other international criminal agencies fund the insurgency. The starting premise is to cut off the sources of funding of these criminals while the military forces continue to attack and degrade them substantially.
Meanwhile my condolences to the family and relations of the victims of these senseless killings.
The Boko Haram days are numbered.

*Africa, Religion and the United Nations International Day for the Eradication of Poverty*

By Bulus Moses Gabi

As I am writing this piece, the fan is blowing and I am listening to the radio that could instantaneously link me up with the local stations and international broadcasting media organizations like the BBC, Radio France International etc. But of all the inventions made by man, the aircraft is the most astonishing and bewildering to me. I am always enthralled by its taking off and landing, wondering how the genius of man could put this sprawling machine in the sky, piercing all known climatic conditions on the globe. At Kilmanjaro mountain in 2015 during my visit to Tanzania the temperature was minus fifty degree centigrade. For the next twenty minutes after passing through this extremely cold mountain, I was pondering on the boundless capacity of the human intellect that is capable of achieving virtually anything in the world.
But while the West is making use of their minds to extend the frontiers of knowledge, Africa has closed its mind behind the facade of debilitating and paralyzing religion. What is the result? Today, Africa is the poorest continent on the planet earth.
Today is the United Nations International Day for the Eradication of Poverty. The International Day for the Eradication of Poverty is an international observance celebrated every year on October 17 throughout the world. The first commemoration of the event took place in Paris, France, in 1987 when 100,000 people gathered on the Human Rights and Liberties Plaza at the Trocadéro to honour victims of poverty, hunger, violence and fear at the unveiling of a commemorative stone by Father Joseph Wresinski, founder of the International Movement ATD Fourth World. In 1992, four years after Wresinski's death, the United Nations officially designated October 17 as The International Day for the Eradication of Poverty.
One of the primary goals of the Day is to recognize the struggles of the impoverished and to make their voices heard by governments and ordinary citizens.
I recently got this post from a friend highlighting the danger posed by many of the Nigerian pastors and why they will continue to vitiate the goals of the UN Day for the Eradication of Poverty thus:
"THE PROBLEM WITH NIGERIAN PASTORS
" The Nigerian Pastor won't talk about Usain Bolt or Serena Williams. They won't talk about late Dora Akunyili or Tony Elumelu. The Nigerian pastor wont talk about Steve Jobs or the young people in Silicon Valley reshaping our world. They won't talk about young American scientists spending endless hours in search of a cure to a disease that's predominantly in the Tropical African region.
"The Nigerian pastor won't talk about the numerous Chinese children inventing stuffs at a very tender age or the lung Indians perfecting their acts in medicine .
" In every corner of the world, there exist young men and women who have defied all odds and became successful through hardwork, creativity and dedication...The Nigerian pastor wont talk about them......neither will he ask his members to emulate the spirit of these individuals.
"He would rather talk about sister Agatha who got a job she WAS NOT THE MOST QUALIFIED because she prayed and fasted in line with their church program. Or
" Brother John who became a millionaire because he used all his salary as a seed in the church. Or
"Papa Miracle - he laid his hands on him and 3 of his children got admission in the University Or the Mama Esther paid her tithe and her business started growing everywhere across the nation......no business plan, just boom, everywhere.
" This has led to a new breed of mentally lazy young people who now see God as a rewarder of mediocrity.
" To the Nigerian Pastor, the only way to prosper is by paying your tithe and sowing seeds in the church. So they will never talk about those who through hardwork and dedication placed themselves on the world map.
" No......the Nigeria God only blesses the first 30 people that rush to the altar to drop #100,000 as seed.
" The Nigeria God abhors hardwork and creative thinking, He only gives to those who sow seeds and offerings......and those who shout "I am a millionaire" every morning and do nothing the rest of the day.
" You want God to come down and help you use the talent He gave you and bless you because you are going to church to shout "Daddy I receive it"
"Are you a joker? Can someone tell these jokers that irrespective of your creed, faith or religion, blessings and favours follow you once you start using your talent and become useful to your society.
" This explains why you see up to 8 or 10 Churches clustering in a particular street in Nigeria each selling their miracles to the gullible many who wants miracles without hard work.
" Africans have misused religion . God blesses hard work not laziness."
At this point, it is important to examine why some nations are prospering while others are getting poorer. Once again, here is another post by Samuel Oladokun that differentiates between two different types of economies:
" Two Economies
"There are basically two economies in the world and every nation on the face of the earth fall under either of them.
These are:

" The Knowledge Economy
"The Religion Economy
"The rich and prosperous nations of the world belong to the Knowledge Economy while the the poorest and poverty stricken nations of the world belong to the Religion Economy.
"The Knowledge Economy is one that engages the brain, asks relevant questions, and proffer solutions to problems.
"The Religion Economy is one that blackmails God and dumps every responsibilities on Him.
"The Knowledge Economy tasks the brain, the Religion Economy numbs the brain. Japan, for example, is a Knowledge Economy. It has no natural resources but it is a prosperous nation, one of the richest on the planet.
"At least six of every ten cars on Nigeria's roads today are Japanese cars. Japan is not a religious country, but it is one of the most corruption-free nations.
"China is not a religious country, but nations that ignore China today do so to their own peril. Nigeria falls under Religion Economy, everything depends on God. Nigeria is one of the most endowed nations with natural resources on the face of the earth, yet also among the poorest.
" Nigeria wears proudly the badge of the "poverty capital of the world" and is one of the most corrupt nations on the face of the earth.
"It is also one of the most religious countries on the planet. It is a nation where everything depends on God, and God watches in disgust as we mortgage our brains.
"Even security agencies that are constitutionally funded from budgets look up to God to carry out their duties. But here is the irony.
The two major religions of the world, Christianity and Islam, emanated from Israel and Saudi Arabia respectively. But none of those two nations fall under Religion Economy. None!
One of the evidences of their subscription to Knowledge Economy is the yearly pilgrimages that generate for them revenues in billions of dollars.
"But hypocritically stupid nations like Nigeria are comfortable disseminating nuisance to humanity with their glamorization of the Religion Economy. People elected and empowered to do a job will turn around and ask those who elected them to pray.
"God is disgusted with Religion Economy. There's a reason He gave man brain and instructed him to subdue the earth.
If you're a Christian who does not commit yourself to the pursuit of knowledge your life will become a perfect reflection of Nigeria. That's a fact! It is an illusion to anticipate wisdom where people do not pay attention to Knowledge." . Simon Oladapo
One of the reasons why Rwanda is standing out among the neighboring poor African countries is its resolve to ban religious extremism and abuse. You can not put your megaphone on top of your church or mosque disturbing the peace of the community and turning yourself into a nuisance wirhout risking an arrest.

Check it up. The more of religiousity you have in a nation, the more the harvest of poverty and backwardness. God has created the universe and put man there to dominate and control it through wisdom and the intellect. He will not come down to provide electricity, good roads and portable water for you. He will not help Africa to get rid of its current useless leaders. And neither will He help you fix your battered economy as a result of the profliigate squadermania of your leaders. Under Josef Stalin in Russia and Mao Zedong in Russia and China respectively, thousands of the enemies of the state were eliminated. Thinking that God will touch the hearts of the critical mass of the current rotten African leaders is to live in self delusion. For the religious puritanical and fundamentalist hypocrites accross the length and breadth of Africa I have a message for you. When Jesus entered into the temple and found the mercantilists defiling the place, He did not pray to God to remove them. What did He do? Thorough whipping and thrashing of thee characters. Africa has been praying for close to six decades now. Yet, poverty is growing in leaps and bounds in the continent. The Bible is complete. Faith without work is dead. As for those who might misconstrue my position as advocating for a Godless continent I which to let you know that the basis of any true religion is holiness and righteousness. Hebrew 12:14 submits that without holiness, no man shall see the Lord. How holy and righteous are these 'your Papa and Mama in the Lord' that have held you captive for these years! Do your due diligence to read the Marxist thesis and you would be truly convinced that religion is truly an o***m of the masses. As a result of this my critical position I won't be surprised as usual that some will doubt my salvation experience. Ride on. God is the ultimate Judge. However, in Africa, this is the time for action. Positive actions that will rid Africa of bad eggs and the enemies of the continent. Today is the day of salvation. Tomorrow might be too late.

*As Israel and Gaza Burn: What are the Prospects for Peace in Palestine?*

By Bulus Moses Gabi

When I heard of the eruptions, conflagrations, the widespread killings in Israel and the Gaza strip, three points readily came to my mind. The first is that international politics will always be governed by power and interest. The second is that any form of violence that will result in killings and destruction must be condemned in international relations. But violence has been and will always be part and parcel of the international system either now in the future. Since the Peace of Westphalia of 1648 from which the current nation-states emerged from all forms of violence - insurgency, irrendentisn, conflagrations, violent extremist attacks and religious terror have been integral parts of the system. Even the modern day pacifists and academic moralists proselytizing for peace at all cost have realised the limited utility of their thesis. Violence is an integral part of the international system and it will continue to be so from eternity to eternity. Certainly, this position might horrify the ecumenical and theological community where prayer, fasting and being at peace with all men and holiness often hold sway.
The third is that the captured will always look for means of setting themselves free. And those who make peaceful change impossible will always make violent change inevitable.
With regards to the issues of power and interest in international politics, both Israel and the Palestinian Arabs want to ensure the peace and prosperity of their people. But while the Palestinian Arabs have been agitating for their homeland and boundaries to promote the peace, prosperity and the abundance of their people, Israel has been oppressing, repressing and annexing their homelands to the point that millions of them have been refugees in most countries of the Middle East. Could you continue to oppress your neighbors and in perpetuity and expect to live with them in peace? This is a question for Israel and the Western countries like the United States that believe that the Arabs are Sub-human in Palestine.
In relation to the issue of violence, I hasten to submit that given power and economic configurations in the international system today in which the strong will always rule and dominate the weak and morality has remained a farce, violence could hardly be ruled out in international politics. In Palestine in particular, the activities of Israel and the policies of the Western nations will always make peaceful co-existence between Israel and its neighbors a fleeting mirage.
Furthermore, the captivity of the Arabs in Palestine by Israel and by extension the United States and its allies will always be a stimulus for violence in that region. Nobody could predict precisely how to current violence between Hamas and the Israeli forces might end. But let Israel and its Western supporters know that violence, killings and destruction will always be the daunting realities in Palestine until there is justice and fairplay. And the hope of Israel living in peace will always be a day dream.
Now let us look at what led to the current war between Israel and Hamas, the time line of the war ; and also examine my article on the crisis in Palestine that I wrote three years ago.

*Causes and timrline of the violence between Hamas and Israel*
Let's look at this from the point of view of Jessie Yeung and Adam Renton, CNN:

*Israel at war with Hamas after unprecedented attacks*

What we're covering
Israel's military says it has retaken control of all communities around Gaza, more than 48 hours after Hamas launched a surprise assault in which more than 700 people were killed.
Videos show the horror on the ground, including an attack on a music festival where Israeli rescuers say they found 260 people dead. Other clips show Israeli civilians taken hostage. Hamas claims it is holding more than 100 hostages, including Israeli army officers.
Israel has been pounding Gaza with airstrikes and formally declared war on Hamas Sunday. Almost 500 Palestinians have died, according to the health ministry in Gaza, and medical care has been complicated by Israel cutting power to the territory.

2. My 18 February, 2020 article :

*Why the United States and the Western World Will Always Be Vulnerable to Su***de Bombing and Violent Extremism*

Academic lamentation, helplessness and beamoningg of fate are the most defeatist and ridiculous approaches to foreign policy. Any student of international politics would tell you that the international system is anarchical in nature and that power and interest are the guiding imperatives in international affairs. Morality in international politics has remained a farce for ages in the comity of nations and it will continue to remain so in the foreseeable future.
The first decade after independence many Third World nations erroneously believed that their economic and even political salvation was organically linked up with their erstwhile colonial masters. The French speaking Third World nations in particular, were so much brainwashed into believing that their survival outside Paris was a fleeting illusion and even till date, many of these nations are still held captive by the cunning and deceit of Europe.
The cul-de-sac mentality of and the resignation to hopelessness and helplessness by these nations was largely buttressed and reinforced by what I will like to call the 'academia of despair and inertia' in which the woes of the Third World are always laid at the doorstep of the West. The likes of Walter Rodney had shown the genesis of Africa's underdevelopmentt in which Europe is most culpable. But definitely, he did not mean that six decades after independence from Europe, Africa, the Middle East and the rest part of the world should throw up their hands in despair. If Africa and the Middle East are ever going to develop, their internal contradictions must first of all be addressed. The decadent monarchies in the Middle East and the other corrupt and aristocratic leadership in the region are most palpable abbatrosses and regrettable dibilitating immobilism in the march to liberation and progress in the region. The Arab League could be viewed as 'a piece of sublime political absurdity and nonsense always rattled by religious and denominational schism and polarisation which will always be antithetical to the cause of peace and progress. Saudi Arabia and Iran are sworn enemies. Syria and Turkey are officially at war. Su***de bombings are daily occurrences in the region. Perhaps apart from Turkey, none of the Arab nations is industrial and if there is any part of the world where the thesis of the dependency school has its strongest footholds, it is in the Arab world where decadent feudalism and aristocracy are always holding sway without any iota of fetters.
Given the forgoing deplorable and bleak situation in the Arab world, is it any wonder that these nations are continously rattled by Zionism and the American imperialism! With the tacit support of Saudi Arabia, the US is giving Iran a raw deal. Iran is supporting the Syrian government to resist the American imperialism.
However, it appears that the Arab nations are beginning to get their bearing by jointly rejecting the January 2020 United States policy in the Middle East. Financial Times of FEBRUARY 1, 2020 reports the rejection after its meeting in Cairo thus:
"Arab foreign ministers meeting in Cairo have rejected Donald Trump’s Middle East plan, which is seen to be heavily tilted in Israel’s favour, calling it a setback to peace.
" At the Arab League meeting, Mahmoud Abbas, the Palestinian president, threatened to cut all relations with Israel and the US including security ties and agreements with US intelligence agencies to combat extremism.
" Mr Abbas has already rejected the proposed peace deal, which was unveiled earlier this week and paves the way for Israel to annex more occupied Palestinian land.
"The Arab ministers slammed the plan as a setback to three decades of peace efforts, saying it was destined to fail because it breached international law and ignored UN resolutions that had formed the basis of previous negotiations.
"The plan which was unveiled in Washington by the US president and Benjamin Netanyahu, the Israeli prime minister, recognises Jerusalem as Israel’s undivided capital and allows the Jewish state to annex settlements it built on occupied Palestinian land which are viewed as illegal by the UN. It envisages eventually giving the Palestinians limited self-rule on disjointed enclaves connected by roads and tunnels, but only if conditions set by Israel were met.
"The ministers said Mr Trump’s plan was the culmination of “unilateral and unjust decisions by the US” which has already moved its embassy to Jerusalem and recognised Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights seized from Syria in 1967 and considered occupied territory by the UN.
"The US closed the Palestinian mission in Washington in 2018 and the Palestinians have not been part of negotiations for Mr Trump’s plan.
"Mr Abbas said he had refused to take Mr Trump’s calls and messages because he did not want the US president to be able to claim that the Palestinians had been consulted on the peace plan.
"The foreign ministers reaffirmed their commitment to the creation of a Palestinian state within boundaries before Israel occupied the West Bank in 1967 with its capital in East Jerusalem.
"The foreign minister’s statement affirms longstanding Arab positions on the two state solution, but initial reaction from key Arab states to the Trump plan were less hardline. Egypt, the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia urged careful consideration of the plan without explicitly endorsing it. They called for Palestinians and Israelis to resume negotiations under the auspices of the US.
"Diplomats and analysts said the Arabs did not want to anger Mr Trump arguing that there has been a reordering of priorities in the region, with the intractable Palestinian-Israeli conflict losing importance in the eyes of some governments which increasingly see their national interest in closer ties with the US and even Israel. Gulf countries are anxious about Iran which they view as the main threat in the region. Egypt has drawn closer to Israel as they fight Isis in the Sinai on their joint border."
That is always the nature of the Arab nations. They are never united and always confronted with religious crises. In this region, religion has been a curse rather than a blessing. Even though majority of the nations in the zone are Muslims, yet they are inundated with religious differences that daily impede their development. Their religious beliefs have held them captive. Not until 2018, women were not allowed to drive in Saudi Arabia. Right there in the Saudi Embassy in Turkey, a popular journalist was murdered in 2019 and the Crown Prince of of the Saudi Kingdom has been heavily indicted by the UN agency in this regard.
Until many of the rotten and useless Arab leaders are toppled that region will always be in the throes of the repression of Zionism and the American Imperialism. But let the Trump Administration and the rest Western leaders know that until the Palestinian Arabs are being treated like human beings and their policies are in the region are balanced, they should be expecting unending su***de bombing and all forms of violent extremism. The radical Islamists that are bred by Zionism and global capital might not have B-52 bombers, Pershing 2 or inter-continental ballistic missiles, they have su***de belts with considerable lethal import on the defenceless Western populations.
The repression and the killing of the Jews in the Holocaust received world wide condemnation. Why should the case of the Palestinian Arabs be different! For the ultra conservative Christians who will always hide behind the veneer of the Biblical Jewish history to advocate for the brutalisation and Repression of the Palestinian Arabs, your position is antithetical to and at variance with the principle of agape love that Christ died for at Calvary. But why was Jesus crucified? He was a rebel. He fought against sin and the inhumanity of man against man. The modern days Pharisees should take note. Any form of injustice or repression will always have consequences.
Let there be peace in Palestine.

Lessons From and How to end the Russo-Ukraine War.

By Bulus Moses Gabi

Since the Invasion of Ukraine by Russia on 23 February, 2022, I have written over short fifteen articles on the war. Expectedly, many scholars have interogated the causes, direction and dynamics of the war. And to be sure, our perspectives on the war are bound to be diverse, if not opposed sometimes. This is the beauty of scholarship.
However, I believe that there are two critical points that should be the focus of any analyst at this historical conjuncture of the world. The first is : what are the lessons learnt from the war and the second is how to bring it to an end and thus saving humanity from the looming nuclear Holocaust.
*Lessons from the War*
One, before embarking on any act of aggression or better still, before embarking on the Invasion of another nation, the aggressor needs to do his home work very well, calculate the cost and the possibility of winning the war. Leading world strategic thinkers like Sun Tzu and Carl von Clauswitz have interogated this idea extensively. And contemporary realities have pointed in that direction as well. The America Invasion of Vietnam and the Invasion of Kuwait by Iraq in 1990 that ended in the defeat of the United States and Iraq respectively are both poignant reminders that potential aggressors should be very circumspect and factor in suprises and war imponderables that might annihilate their strategic objectives.
The initial thinking of Vladimir Putin that the Invasion of Ukraine would be a tea party has turned into a nightmare for him and Russian. Could one, perhaps, talk about Putin as being delusional. Oh yes, to the extent that he miscalculated the resolve of Ukraine to fight him to a standstill and the immense support of the West for Ukraine, one could submit that Putin is not in touch with the current strategic realities and dynamics in the world. His intervention in Syria, Checchen, Georgia and the North Caucasus with little resistance might have given him the impression that Ukraine would not be any different. But what he fails to realise is that Ukraine is in Europe and brute force within the continent is now anachronistic. European nations might embark on acts of aggression elsewhere but they might be unwilling to tolerate this at home. The Putin's autocratic rule of Russia is now largely outdated in Europe. Hence, their collective resolve to stand up to Putin and stop him from extending it to other parts of the continent.
Two, the current resort to partial mobilization of three hundred thousand reservists to fight in the war is symptomatic of considerable manpower loss in the war and a further indication that he has been rattled on the battlefield. His initial goal of effecting a leadership change in Kgiv has suffered immense reverses and his focus on the east and South of Ukraine is now facing intense challenge. All those territories he had earlier captured are now being taken over by the Ukrainean forces. What would become the ultimate fate of those territories that he claimed to annex might not be known precisely. But as of the moment, he is fastly losing ground in those territories. No matter the pretenses of Putin, this war is not going in his favour. Whether the realities might change tomorrow is a different ball game all together.
Three, in the field of strategic studies, the possession of nuclear capability is a shield against military aggression and attack. It is still the same today. And it is a major reason for non-escalation of the war between NATO and Russia. Hence Russia has become the battle ground for the West to deal with Russia in conventional terms. And within this context, Russia is facing increasing Surprises and setbacks on the battlefront. Then, the entire world should be concerned about the increasing possibility of a nuclear attack that might spell disaster for the human race.
Four, this war has adverse implications for the world economy. Ukraine and Russia are arguably hardest hit. Food scarcity looms large. A reminder that we now live in globalised and more integrated world. But one might appear certain though, by the time the smoking gun might have been silent, Europe dependence on Russia's gas and oil would have become a thing of the past.
Five, the world has come to the realization that the North Atlantic Alliance that faced some challenges under Trump, has now bounced back and will continue to be a dominant force, if not a decisive force, in the global political, economic and strategic relations. Its pauperising and destabilizing antics in the Third World might continue to grow in leaps and bounds until these nations could come together, put in place pragmatic political and economic policies to set themselves free.
Six, what is the political future of Putin in Russia? This is largely uncertain. Putin is a despot that rules Russia with brute force, jailing and assassinating opponents to remain in power. For despots to remain in power, they must continue to be repressive and ride roughshod on the people. But at the end, they usually face still resistance that might put an end to their oppression. The growing agitations in Iran after forty years of the Islamic Revolution point in this direction. But the political future of Putin is largely tied to how this war ends. Just this morning, the nineteen kilometers bridge that links Russia to Crimea that was commissioned by Putin in 2018 has been severely damaged by the Russian enemy. If he bounces back and could defeat Ukraine in the war, his future might be secured. But in the face of all these setbacks in the war, Putin has every reason to be worried. Very worried.
*How to End the War*
How this war might end is very precarious. The two belligerent forces believe that they could win the war. But the reality is that the longer the war lasts, the more human suffering and catastrophic consequences Ukraine, Russia and the world will continue to face.
However, there should be a Third Force that might convince the two sides to lay down their arms. Turkey, China and perhaps India might have a critical role to play in this regard.
Today, the world is tottering on the verge of thermo-nuclear Apocalypse and the Ammagedon. This is indeed very concerning.
