FROM POTENTIAL TO POSSIBILITY

Every young person carries unique talent
s, ideas, and abilities that can contribute to personal success and community development. However, potential alone is not enough; it must be supported by opportunity, encouragement, relevant skills, and access to the right guidance.

When young people are equipped to develop their abilities, they are better positioned to pursue meaningful careers, establish businesses, embrace innovation, and contribute positively to society. Their aspirations deserve to be heard, while their creativity and determination deserve opportunities to flourish.

For Somolu Constituency II, purposeful representation includes recognising the importance of youth development and advocating for initiatives that connect young people with skills acquisition, enterprise development, mentorship, and other relevant opportunities.

Progress requires creating an environment where talent can grow and ambition can find direction. Our young people should be encouraged to look beyond their present circumstances, develop their capabilities, and become active contributors to the prosperity of their families and communities.

Somolu, Lagos — The Somolu Federal Constituency Campaign Council has inaugurated its Ward Coordinators at a stakeholders' meeting focused on strengthening party organisation and coordinating campaign activities ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Held on Monday, October 26, 2026, the meeting brought together political leaders, elected officials, party executives and grassroots representatives from Somolu and Bariga.

Among those present were the APC Somolu Federal Constituency Apex Leaders, Apostle Peter Oyewusi; Hon. Kolade Alabi, APC flag bearer for Somolu Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives; Hon. Morufu Idowu Alli-Balogun, APC flag bearer for Somolu Constituency II in the Lagos State House of Assembly; Hon. Apata Samuel, incumbent member representing Somolu Constituency II; Hon. Lateef Ashimi, Executive Chairman of Somolu Local Government; Hon. Bukola Adedeji, Executive Chairman of Bariga LCDA; Hon. Seun Osiyemi, Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation; Hon. Akin Mejolagbe, Bariga APC Chairman; Otunba Dengel Anifowoshe; Hon. Abiodun Orekoya, representing Somolu Constituency I in the Lagos State House of Assembly; Hon. Sesan Olanrewaju; and appointees and elected councillors from Somolu and Bariga.

A central highlight of the event was the address by the Council’s Director-General, Hon. Olowo Rotimi.

Hon. Olowo Rotimi welcomed the Deputy Director-Generals, party leaders, ward leaders, coordinators and stakeholders. He emphasised that the appointment of Ward Coordinators carries significant responsibility and must be met with dedication, discipline and accountability.

He directed the coordinators to work closely with ward leaders and stakeholders to strengthen party structures and advance the party's objectives. He urged them to identify potential challenges to electoral success, propose practical solutions and maintain consistent engagement with relevant ward leadership.

On reporting and accountability, the Director-General instructed coordinators to submit accurate, timely weekly reports on their activities, challenges and progress to the Deputy Director-Generals.

He also tasked them with collecting and submitting non-resident voter information using designated forms, stressing the importance of accuracy and full compliance with applicable regulations.

Hon. Rotimi affirmed that Ward Coordinators must serve as the party’s focal point in their respective wards, fostering unity, cordial relationships and cooperation across all zones. He added that they must carry out other duties assigned by the appropriate party authorities.

He noted that effective grassroots coordination depends on teamwork, open communication and mutual respect, and urged the newly inaugurated coordinators to earn the confidence placed in them through committed, diligent service.

In his remarks, Hon. Morufu Idowu Alli-Balogun expressed appreciation for the fatherly disposition of the incumbent member representing Somolu Constituency II and prayed for his success. He called on APC members to familiarise themselves with the achievements of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other APC candidates to help secure victory for the party in the forthcoming elections.

The inauguration establishes a framework for communication, mobilisation and coordination among stakeholders across the Somolu Federal Constituency. It clarifies responsibilities, strengthens community outreach and supports effective information-sharing with voters across wards and polling units.

The meeting concluded on an optimistic note, with participants reaffirming their commitment to unity, loyalty and collective responsibility. Leaders and stakeholders described the exercise as timely and strategic. After prayers and mutual felicitations, participants departed with a shared resolve to build a stronger, more coordinated and people-driven campaign structure and deliver victory for the APC at all levels across the Somolu Federal Constituency.

YOUR REPRESENTATIVE, YOUR PARTNER

Effective representation thrives on accessibility, mutual trust, and a genuine connection between the representative and the people. A legislator should not be a distant figure who appears only during important occasions, but an accessible partner who understands the everyday realities, concerns, and aspirations of the constituency.

When people feel comfortable sharing their experiences, asking questions, and contributing ideas, leadership gains a clearer understanding of the issues that matter most. Regular engagement also strengthens accountability, encourages constructive dialogue, and creates opportunities for citizens to participate meaningfully in discussions about their community's future.

For Somolu Constituency II, purposeful representation must be built on openness, responsiveness, and respect for every constituent. Whether through community meetings, direct interactions, or engagement with local groups, every opportunity to listen matters.

The relationship between a representative and the people should be a partnership founded on shared responsibility and common aspirations. Together, we can strengthen public trust and advance a more responsive approach to representation.

A CONSTITUENCY-CENTRED APPROACH

The people must remain at the heart of effective representation. Meaningful leadership begins with understanding the needs, concerns, and aspirations of the constituents, maintaining open channels of communication, and ensuring that their voices contribute to decisions affecting their lives.

A constituency-centred approach requires consistent engagement with community associations, traditional and political stakeholders, youth groups, women, traders, artisans, and individual residents.

Every interaction offers an opportunity to listen, identify pressing challenges, and gain a clearer understanding of the priorities that deserve attention.

For Somolu Constituency II, purposeful representation must be built on accessibility, consultation, and a genuine commitment to understanding the realities of our communities.

No voice should be dismissed simply because it comes from an individual rather than an organised group. By listening attentively and engaging constructively, we can strengthen the relationship between the people and their representative, promote accountability, and ensure that the constituency's needs remain central to legislative priorities and community development.

M.I Alli-Balogun, Barbers’ Association Offer Free Haircuts to Over 500 Residents in Somolu Constituency II. Delivers over 170 haircuts in Wards A & B

More than 170 residents have benefited from a free barbering initiative sponsored by Hon. M.I Alli-Balogun, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the Lagos State House of Assembly, Somolu Constituency II (Bariga), as part of efforts to promote youth engagement and community development.

The initiative, organised by the Lagos State Barbers Association, Bariga Branch, aims to provide free haircuts to more than 500 residents across the eight wards in the constituency between October and November 2026.

The exercise commenced this week in Wards A and B, where over 170 residents have already received free haircuts, marking an encouraging start to the community-focused programme.

The initiative seeks to provide practical support to residents while creating opportunities for grassroots engagement, particularly among young people. By involving local barbers in delivering the service, the programme also highlights the importance of vocational skills, small businesses and community-based partnerships in addressing everyday needs.

Two residents who benefited from the exercise expressed satisfaction with the initiative, describing it as a welcome intervention that brought direct benefits to members of the community.

They expressed hope that Hon. Alli-Balogun would introduce more beneficial programmes capable of improving residents’ welfare. The beneficiaries also offered prayers for his success in the forthcoming election.

The programme reflects the youth engagement philosophy underpinning the M.I Alli-Balogun campaign, which emphasises direct community interaction, practical support and the involvement of skilled young people in local development.

Beyond providing free haircuts, the initiative creates an avenue for young barbers to contribute their expertise to public service while demonstrating how vocational skills can be mobilised to meet community needs. It also presents an opportunity to strengthen relationships between political leadership and residents through activities that deliver visible, immediate benefits.

For the campaign, the exercise reinforces a message that youth engagement should extend beyond political conversations to include participation, skills development and initiatives that respond to the everyday concerns of constituents.

With the programme expected to reach residents in all eight wards of Somolu Constituency II, attention will now turn to the remaining phases scheduled for October and November.

The organisers hope to sustain the momentum of the exercise and achieve the target of providing free haircuts to more than 500 residents, further extending the initiative’s reach across Bariga.

O LORD, GUARD OUR HEARTS

A peaceful and progressive community begins with hearts guided by humility, compassion, and mutual respect. Jealousy, bitterness, hatred, pride, and selfish ambition can weaken relationships, create unnecessary divisions, and prevent people from working together towards shared goals.

I pray that Almighty God guards our hearts against these destructive tendencies and fills us with patience, understanding, forgiveness, and genuine concern for one another. May He grant us the wisdom to resolve disagreements peacefully, the humility to appreciate the contributions of others, and the strength to choose unity over division.

For Somolu Constituency II, lasting progress requires more than collective effort; it also requires the right attitude and a willingness to work together despite our differences. Let us cultivate relationships built on trust, respect, and a shared commitment to community development.

May God help us become instruments of peace, strengthening the bonds that unite our communities and creating an environment where everyone can contribute to our collective prosperity.
