*Biography of Late Comrade Ayodele Samuel Akele*
He was born on 11th Nov 1948 to the Family of Late Reuben Akele in Ibaka Quarter Akungba Akoko Ondo State
Comrade Ayodele Akele, a former chairman of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), Lagos state chapter.
Akele Ayodele was the Secretary-General of the National Conscience Party (NCP), the party founded by the late Gani Fawehinmi of blessed memory
A formal General Secretary of National Association of Nigerian Students, Committed, incorruptible trade union leader, agitator, mobilizer popular called "Iturity"
A formal Students Union President of Yaba Tech.
At the time of his death, he was National General Secretary of the National Conscience Party (NCP).
As a quantity surveyor, he worked at the Lagos State Property Development Corporation (LSPDC) from where he was elected Lagos State Chairman of the National Union Public Corporations Employees (NUPCE) in the late 1980s till 1996 when NUPCE along with CSTWUN and RSEU, merged to form the Amalgamated Union of Public Corporations Civil Service Technical and Recreation Services Employees (AUPCTRE).
Beloved by rank and file workers who had implicit trust in him, he was elected as the first Lagos State Chairman of AUPCTRE, a position he held until he was sacked as an employee of LSDPC by the military governor Brigadier General Buba Marwa, for his union activities.
As soon as the new civilian government of Bola Tinubu was sworn-in on 29 May 1999, leaders of public sector unions in the state demanded the reinstatement of Akele. Playing the card of a NADECO “fighter for democracy” card, Tinubu promptly heeded the call.
Reinstated and fired
In his first speech on being reinstated, Akele immediately amplified calls for action to reinstate workers who had been sacked by Tinubu (yes, one of the first things the AD government did in Lagos was sack thousands of public sector workers in the name of “rationalisation”, starting within its first month in power!

Farewell comrade Ayodele Akele
PRESS RELEASE ON THE DEATH OF COMRADE AYODELE AKELE THE NATIONAL GENERAL SECRETARY (NGS) OF THE NATIONAL CONSCIENCE PARTY (NCP) 25th of June 2020.
The National Conscience Party (NCP) has announced with shock the death of the pillar of democracy, the human right crusader a great Ncpite, a revolutionary par excellence, a committed class fighter, Uncompromising activist, a leader at the barricade of struggles, our one and only Corrosive Iturity Comrade Ayodele Akele, the National General Secretary of the NCP.
On behalf of myself and my family, our great party (NCP), I commiserate with the family of Comr. Ayodele Akele, his wife and children.
The news came with great pain of his demise; my condolences are with his bereaved family and it is my prayer that Almighty Allah gives us all the fortitude to bear the loss.
He died on 23rd June, 2020 at his residence in Ondo state after a brief illness against the ongoing rumours that he died outside the shores of Nigeria.
As we have always known, Comrade Akele lived a simple life worthy of emulation and accolades; and he never lived beyond his reach.
Dear Comrades and Friends, our fraternity greetings goes to everyone who shared with us in the painful loss of our great party (NCP).
We are in touch with his family, the children, friends and all organizations where he served, to give him a befitting burial, in line with the guideline of the COVID-19 protocol on public gatherings.
However, the NCP National headquarters at no. 1 Yaoundé street, zone 6, Wuse, Abuja, has opened a condolence register in honor of late comrade Ayodele Akele. All NCP state chapters are expected to do same, while we urge all other organizations where he served before his demise, to join us in opening a condolence register in his honour in their respective organisations which he identified with when he was alive.
The burial arrangements will be communicated to us all in a later time.
