A visa is more than permission to enter a country. Understanding its conditions is essential to making informed decisions and avoiding immigration violations.
Before you travel, know what your visa permits, understand your rights and responsibilities, and ensure you comply with the host country's immigration laws.

Currently attending the PBAT–KOH 2027 Campaign Retreat in Lagos, themed “The Road to the Ballot: One Team, One Strategy.”

As Deputy Head of the PBAT–KOH Sub-Committee on Diaspora Affairs, it's been great catching up with fellow directors, deputy directors, and members of the campaign leadership, sharing ideas and discussing the journey ahead.

One thing that resonates with me is the importance of keeping people at the heart of everything we do. It's a commitment I see in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and our Deputy Governor, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, whose approach to public service continues to remind me that leadership is ultimately about improving people's lives.

Because beyond the politics, campaigns, and strategies, it's about real people, their hopes, their families, and the future we all want to build together.

One Team. One Strategy. For Lagos and Lagosians. 🇳🇬

🇳🇬 Join me live this morning at 8:35 AM on Silverbird TV’s Candid Chat, as we discuss the 2027 elections and the role of Nigerians in the diaspora.
https://www.youtube.com/live/-0-bhs92_ZU?si=5qFx_5glDho1cyCA

This is a conversation I’m particularly looking forward to because diaspora engagement is something I’m deeply passionate about.

As the Executive Secretary of the Lagos State Office of Diaspora Affairs and Deputy Director of the PBAT–KOH 2027 Campaign, I believe Nigerians at home and abroad have an important role to play in shaping our country’s future.

I’ll also be sharing my personal perspectives on the upcoming elections, my support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Lagos State Deputy Governor Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, and the All Progressives Congress (APC), as well as why I believe diaspora engagement must remain an important part of our national conversation.

For me, one thing has always been clear: Living outside Nigeria should never mean being disconnected from its future.

Watch live this morning at 8:35 AM (WAT) on Silverbird TV’s Candid Chat.

YouTube Live: https://www.youtube.com/live/-0-bhs92_ZU?si=5qFx_5glDho1cyCA

Let me ask you: What role do you think Nigerians abroad should play in the 2027 elections?

I’d love to hear your thoughts.

I’m delighted to be speaking today at the 47th Annual Conference of the Nigerian Society of International Law (NSIL) at the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs (NIIA), Victoria Island, Lagos.

As a lifetime member of the Society and Executive Secretary of the Lagos State Office of Diaspora Affairs, this topic is closely connected to my work in diaspora engagement, international relations, diplomacy and migration.

My paper, titled:

“From Obligations to Implementation: Localising International Migration Governance: The Role of Lagos State as a Subnational Implementation Partner,”

explores how international migration commitments can translate into practical programmes that improve lives, particularly in Lagos.

I’m encouraged by our ongoing engagement with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI), as we work to address migration and reintegration needs.

International commitments become truly meaningful when they translate into local solutions.

I look forward to sharing ideas, learning from fellow scholars and practitioners, and exploring opportunities for stronger collaboration.

If you’re in Lagos, I’d be delighted to have you join us today at the NIIA, Victoria Island.

Dr. Jermaine Sanwo-Olu, PhD

Yesterday, I raised the question. Today, we continue the conversation.

I’ll be moderating an important academic discussion today on:

DO MIGRANTS VOTE?
Nigerian State and the Politics of Diaspora (Dis)Enfranchisement

Yesterday, at a Nigerian Diaspora Town Hall held on the margins of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, I raised the issue of diaspora voting with members of Nigeria’s Federal Executive Council.

The Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, spoke about the prospects of Nigerians in the diaspora being able to participate in elections in the future.

Today, we continue that conversation in an academic setting, examining the constitutional, institutional and practical considerations around diaspora voting.

I’ll be moderating the discussion with Olaolu Peter Oluwasanmi, PhD, Dr. Abdulrahman Terab, and Prof. S. S. Olaoluwa, Director, African Diaspora Resource and Research Centre, University of Ibadan, with the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Prof. K. O. Adebowale, serving as Chief Host.

The seminar is hosted by the African Diaspora Resource and Research Centre, University of Ibadan, my alma mater.

For me, meaningful diaspora engagement goes beyond remittances and investment. It is also about participation, representation, belonging and maintaining a meaningful connection to home.

I’m grateful to be in New York as part of the Lagos State Government delegation during UNGA 81.

Today, I’ll be joining other speakers for a conversation on Capital Flows & Private Sector Investment in Africa at a sideline event organised by Vivacity Development and its partners.

My own focus will be “Diaspora Remittances & Returns on Investments Reimagined.”

This is a conversation I genuinely care about. For years, we’ve celebrated how much the diaspora sends home, but I believe we also need to ask: how do we help people invest better, build trust, reduce risk and actually see meaningful returns and impact from their investments back home?

And diaspora capital is much more than money. It is also our experience, expertise, relationships, networks and ideas.

Cornell University, 570 Lexington Avenue, 12th Floor, New York
9:00 AM – 4:00 PM | Monday, 21 September 2026.

I’m looking forward to sharing my thoughts, learning from my fellow panelists and contributing to another meaningful conversation about connecting capital, people and opportunities across borders.

Another opportunity to tell the Lagos story and keep building bridges between home and our people around the world.
