PDP candidate wins Gwagwalada chairmanship election in FCT
The Candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, Mohammed Kasim, has emerged the winner of the Gwagwalada Area Council chairmanship election held as part of the Federal Capital Territory’s local government polls on Saturday.
Declaring the results in the early hours of Sunday, the Independent National Electoral Commission Returning Officer, Philip Akpen said Kasim secured 22,165 votes to defeat his closest rival, Yahaya Shehu of the All Progressives Congress, who polled 17,788 votes.
Akpen further described the election as peaceful and smoothly conducted. Akpeni also stated that Biko Umar of the All Progressives Grand Alliance scored 1,687 to come third place.
The local government elections were conducted across the six Area Councils of the FCT, Abuja Municipal Area Council, Abaji, Bwari, Gwagwalada, Kuje and Kwali, covering both chairmanship and councillorship

APC’s Maikalangu Floors ADC Candidate Moses, Others to Win AMAC Chairmanship
Candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Hon. Christopher Zakka Maikalangu, has won the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) chairmanship election. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) conducted Area Council elections in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on Saturday.
In AMAC, APC’s Maikalangu garnered 40,295 votes to defeat his closest rival, Dr Paul Moses of African Democratic Congress (ADC) who scored 12,109 votes. The results showed that Dantani Zanda of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) got 3,398 votes; Simon Obinna of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) scored 2,185 votes while Jibrin Alhassan of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) garnered 1,694 votes.
Announcing the result in the early hours of Sunday, Collation Officer for AMAC, Prof. Andrew Abue, said the total number of registered voters in the Council Area was 837,338, while the total number of accredited voters was 65,676. Abue added that the rejected votes were 2,336 and total valid votes were 62,861, while the total votes cast were 65,197.
Speaking with journalists immediately after the announcement of results, the APC Collation Agent for AMAC, Gambo Babale, described the election and collation process as credible. Babale congratulated the winner, saying the victory was for him to deliver more dividends of democracy to the people of AMAC, adding that the result was an indication that the APC was ready for victory in 2027 elections.

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) defeated All Progressives Congress (APC) to win its first polling unit in the ongoing Area Council Elections in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The election, which recorded low turnout of voters, saw the opposition coalition carrying the day at polling unit 076, Sani Abacha Estate, Wuse, Zone 4, where Dr. Moses Paul, candidate of Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), cast his ballot.
