IFAKO-IJAIYE LG HOLDS MONTHLY ENVIRONMENTAL SANITATION EXERCISE, REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO A CLEANER ENVIRONMENT
Ifako-Ijaiye Local Government today conducted its Monthly Environmental Sanitation Exercise across various communities within the Local Government Area, reaffirming its commitment to environmental cleanliness and public health. The exercise was led by the Vice Chairman, Hon. Mrs. Oluwatoyin Akerele, today represented the Executive Chairman, Prince Usman Akanbi Hamzat (UAH), alongside management staff and other council officials.
The exercise, which took place between 6:30 a.m. and 8:30 a.m., involved the clearing of refuse, desilting of drainage channels, and cleaning of streets and public spaces. Council officials also moved round key areas within the Local Government to monitor compliance and encourage active participation by residents and traders.
Speaking during the exercise, the Vice Chairman emphasized the importance of maintaining a clean environment as a collective responsibility. She urged residents to cultivate proper waste disposal habits and ensure that their surroundings remain clean at all times in order to prevent environmental hazards and promote healthy living.
She further reiterated the commitment of the administration of Prince Usman Akanbi Hamzat (UAH) to environmental sustainability and community development. The Local Government expressed appreciation to residents who participated in the exercise and encouraged continued support towards building a cleaner, healthier, and more beautiful Ifako-Ijaiye.

IFAKO-IJAIYE LG MARKS Y2026 AFRICAN IMMUNIZATION WEEK
Ifako-Ijaiye Local Government Area, in a strategic collaboration with the Lagos State Primary Health Care Board (LSPHCB) and the World Health Organization (WHO), officially commemorated the 2026 African Immunization Week today. The event was highlighted by an energetic awareness walk designed to sensitize residents on the critical need for child immunization. The partnership underscores a shared commitment between local, state, federal and international health bodies to eradicate vaccine-preventable diseases and strengthen the communityโs healthcare foundation.
During the walk, the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Primary Health Care Board, Dr. Ibrahim Akinwunmi Mustapha, delivered a compelling address on the long-term benefits of early childhood vaccination. He emphasized that immunization is a fundamental pillar for the health and general wellbeing of children, serving as a shield against debilitating illnesses. Dr. Mustapha further admonished mothers and caregivers to take full advantage of the current immunization window, urging them to ensure their wards receive the necessary "fortification" required for a healthy and productive future.
Adding political weight to the campaign, the Executive Chairman of Ifako-Ijaiye, Prince Usman Akanbi, voiced his administration's total support for the exercise. Represented by the Vice Chairman, Hon. Oluwatoyin Awoniyi-Akerele, the Chairman lauded the initiative and the collaboration with the WHO. Hon. Awoniyi-Akerele formally pledged that the Local Government would provide all necessary resources and logistical support to ensure the success of the 2026 campaign, ensuring that every child within the jurisdiction is reached and protected.

IFAKO-IJAIYE LG RESUMES MONTHLY ENVIRONMENTAL SANITATION EXERCISE
Ifako-Ijaiye Local Government today commenced the official resumption of the Monthly Environmental Sanitation Exercise, with active participation from the Executive Chairman, Prince Usman Akanbi Hamzat (UAH), alongside the Council Manager, Mr. Tobun Olushola Nurudeen, and other management staff. The exercise, which started in the early hours of the day, saw officials and residents engage in cleaning activities across key areas within the Local Government.
The sanitation exercise, held from 6:30am to 8:30am, involved clearing of refuse, sweeping of streets, and proper disposal of waste, as officials moved around various communities to ensure compliance and participation. The presence of top government functionaries further demonstrated the administrationโs commitment to environmental cleanliness and public health.
During the exercise, the Chairman and his team also used the opportunity to sensitize residents and traders on the importance of maintaining a clean environment. They walked through different locations, encouraging individuals to adopt proper waste disposal habits and actively participate in the monthly sanitation programme.
Prince Hamzat reiterated the Local Governmentโs dedication to sustaining a clean and healthy environment, urging residents to take ownership of their surroundings. He emphasized that collective responsibility is key to achieving a cleaner Ifako-Ijaiye, while assuring that the exercise will continue to be strictly enforced across the Local Government.

IFAKO-IJAIYE LG FLAGS OFF 3-DAY TABLE TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIP
Ifako-Ijaiye Local Government has officially flagged off its 3-Day Table Tennis Championship in collaboration with Surffcon Builders Services at the Council Secretariat Hall. The sporting event, which commenced on April 9, 2026, is aimed at promoting fitness, unity, and healthy competition among staff and residents within the Local Government.
The championship is being hosted by the Supervisor for Youth and Sports, Hon. Oluwaseun Iroko, who emphasized the importance of sports as a tool for youth engagement, talent discovery, and community development. He noted that the initiative reflects the administrationโs commitment to encouraging active lifestyles and fostering social interaction across all levels.
The opening ceremony featured an exciting kickoff match between the Council Manager, Mr. Tobun Olushola, and the Secretary to the Local Government (SLG), Mr. Barchel, setting a lively tone for the competition. Their participation demonstrated leadership support and enthusiasm for sports development within the Council.
Dignitaries present at the high table included the Council Manager, Mr. Tobun Olushola, alongside other management staff of the Local Government. The championship is expected to run through April 11, 2026, with participation from both male and female categories, further reinforcing inclusiveness and unity within Ifako-Ijaiye Local Government.
