EBOLA UPDATE: Nigeria Steps Up Screening as Health Officials Monitor Contacts

Nigeria is strengthening surveillance at airports and other points of entry after confirming an imported case of Ebola Bundibugyo disease in the Federal Capital Territory.

Health authorities say 44 close contacts have been identified for monitoring. In its latest update, the Federal Government said some contacts have tested negative while results for others were still pending. Officials also stressed that genetic similarity to a virus identified in Kenya does not, by itself, prove a direct epidemiological link.

Authorities are urging Nigerians to stay calm, follow official health guidance and avoid sharing unverified claims. Updates should be taken from recognised public health sources.
