APC ‘ll conduct credible primary in Ondo, says Akande
Elder statesman and former Interim National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Chief Bisi Akande has said that the party will hold a free and fair primary for governorship aspirants in Ondo State.
He charged the aspirants to build a virile chapter and avoid any action that could breed strife and rancour as they prepare for the governorship poll.
Akande reminded the contestants that the party is bigger than the ambition of individual aspirants, urging them to elevate its interest over and above particularistic agenda.
The eminent politician gave the advice when one of the aspirants, Odunayo Akinrinsola-Oyewole, visited him at his home town, Ila-Orangun, Osun State.
The aspirant informed the party elder that he joined the race because he has what it takes to govern the state as a progressive politician.
He paid tribute to Akande, who he described as a role model and mentor to many politicians in the country.
Akande said the party will provide a level playing field for aspirants, adding that delegates will choose a candidate of their choice.
No fewer than 15 governorship aspirants are warming up for the shadow poll. They include Senator Ajayi Boroffice, Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu, Hon. Niran Sule-Akinsuyi, Hon. Victor Olabimtan, Dr. Segun Abraham, Dr. Tunji Abayomi, Dr. Paul Akinterinwa, Dr. Ayodele Akinyelure, Senator Tayo Alasoadura, Chief Olusola Oke, and Akinrinsola Oyewole.

Buhari withdraws diplomatic, official passports from ex-governors, ministers, senators, others

The Nigerian Immigration Service has directed former Nigerian public office holders to immediately surrender official and diplomatic passports issued to them while they were in office.

The action, officials say, is based on the directive of President Muhammadu Buhari.
The categories of officials affected by the directive are former governors, former ministers, former senators, former members of the House of Representatives, and former members of state Houses of Assembly.
Others are former commissioners, former special advisers/special assistants, former chairmen/deputy chairmen of local government areas, all retired heads of parastatals and retired public servants.

“These categories of persons are hereby informed that these passports which were previously held by them have been revoked and should return them to the Nigeria Immigration Service Headquarters Sauka Abuja with immediate effect,” the Comptroller-General of the Immigration Service, Martin Abeshi, said in a statement Monday.

“Failure to comply with this directive will amount to an offence under the Immigration Act 2015. Such unauthorized possession will be impounded at our control posts on arrival or departure.”
The Federal Government had on August 24 directed the Immigration Service to retrieve all valid diplomatic and official passports from all persons not entitled to hold such documents.

“The attention of the Federal Government has been drawn to the fact that some Nigerians who are not entitled to hold diplomatic and official passports are in possession of these documents,” a statement by Yusuf Isiaka,the Director of Press, Federal Ministry of Interior, said at the time.
According to the statement, the measure was intended to protect and promote Nigeria’s integrity in the comity of nations in addition to ensuring law and order.

Buhari Constitutes 13-Member Panel To Probe Arms Purchase Since 2007
President Muhammadu Buhari has directed the National Security Adviser, Maj.-Gen. Babagana Monguno (retd.) to convene an investigative committee on the procurement of hardware and munitions in the Armed Forces from 2007 till date, a statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, has said.
According to the statement, the investigative committee’s mandate is to identify irregularities and make recommendations for streamlining the procurement process in the Armed Forces.
Accordingly, the NSA has constituted the Investigative Committee as follows:

The presidential statement added, “The establishment of the investigative committee is in keeping with President Buhari’s determination to stamp out corruption and irregularities in Nigeria’s public service.
“It comes against the background of the myriad of challenges that the Nigerian Armed Forces have faced in the course of ongoing counter-insurgency operations in the Northeast, including the apparent deficit in military platforms with its attendant negative effects of troops’ morale.
“The committee will specifically investigate allegations of non-adherence to correct equipment procurement procedures and the exclusion of relevant logistics branches from arms procurement under past administrations, which, very often resulted in the acquisition of sub-standard and unserviceable equipment”.

Odumakin’s Petition, A Worthless Hype – Aregbesola

The Osun State Government on Tuesday described as a worthless media hype the petition sent by a frontline activist, Yinka Odumakin on behalf of a group, Osun Stakeholders to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) asking the anti-graft agency to probe the financial activities of the governor in the past five years.

In a statement issued by the Director of the Bureau of Communication and Strategy in the Office of the Governor, Semiu Okanlawon, the state government said the petition submitted by Odumakin bears semblance to the same petition submitted by Justice Oloyede which has been dismissed by the State’s House of Assembly.

According to Okanlawon “I dont think serious minded people take Odumakin serious again. After brainwashing a judge to waste her status and privilege of being a judge of a High Court to join the fray against Aregbesola on their dubious agenda, their next strategy is to keep making noise all over the places with hyped visits to EFCC, or ICPC.

“The question discerning Nigerians should ask Odumakin, Niyi Owolade, and other sponsors of this mindless pull-him-down project is: ‘With all the anxieties raised by the frivolous allegations against the Governor by their hired judge, why did the Judge chicken out when called upon by the House of Assembly to which they made her to submit her petition? Why did they also not encourage her to pursue her petition to its logical conclusion by simply availing the EFCC the opportunity to defend and substantiate the allegations when invited?’

“ Nigerians are no fools and so, Odumakin’s trip to EFCC today is another in the series of their media hype all aimed at keeping the subject of their destructive mission in the minds of the people.
