- Zimbabwe's new Head of State, who is expected to take oath of office on Friday, November 24, is not in good books with the United States
- The incoming Commender-in-Chief Emmerson Mnangagwa was slapped with sanctions for his acts while serving as Robert Mugabe's vice president
It has emerged that Zimbabwe's incoming 75-year-old President Emmerson Mnangagwa , who is set to be sworn in on Friday, November 24, has not been in good books with the United States.
A report by News 24 and other sources reveal that Mnangagwa, also nicknamed 'The Crocodile' - presumably because of his ruthlessness, was slapped with sanctions by the United States in relation to his actions while serving as vice president of now former President Robert Mugabe, 93.
"Mnangagwa was sanctioned in response to what the United States termed as 'acts to undermine Zimbabwe's democratic processes and institutions' and 'acts of violence and other human rights abuses against political opponents'," reports News 24.

The Crocodile, who was made the new president of Zimbabwe by the ruling party Zanu-PF, on Sunday, November 19, is said to have been a notorious 'enforcer' and 'hardliner' in Mugabe's administration.

Mnangagwa was even accused of spearheading a major crackdown on opposition leaders in the 2008 presidential poll that saw Mugabe retain power.
Ironically, the powerful vice president was dramatically sacked by his boss, leading to a series of events that precipitated the fall of Mugabe.
shock resignation .
“ The former vice president , who had been out of the country after he was sacked from both party and government , will… replace comrade Robert Mugabe who resigned, ” the state-run ZBC news site said on Wednesday .
Mnangagwa was to return to the country Wednesday to take power after Mugabe’ s resignation brought a sudden end to 37 years of authoritarian rule.
Ahead of his arrival , state media said he would be sworn in as president at a ceremony on Friday .
Mugabe’ s iron grip ended in a shock announcement to parliament where MPs had convened to impeach the 93-year - old who dominated every aspect of Zimbabwean public life for decades .
On the streets , the news that his long and often brutal leadership was over sparked wild celebrations which lasted late into the night , with crowds dancing and cheering ecstatically amid a cacophony of car horns.
“ Comrade Mnangagwa is coming back today ,” senior aide Larry Mavhima , told AFP , saying he was expected to brief the media after landing at a military airport outside Harare .
Mnangagwa , 75, was sacked by the president on November 6 in a move that pushed infuriated army chiefs to intervene , triggering a series of events which led to Mugabe’s ouster .
A former key Mugabe ally, Mnangagwa fled the country after his dismissal , saying he would not return without guarantees of his safety.
His sacking was the result of an increasingly bitter succession battle with Mugabe’ s wife Grace, who had been pushing to take over from the ageing leader .
“ My decision to resign is voluntary ,” Mugabe wrote in his resignation letter , expressing his “ desire to ensure a smooth , peaceful and non -violent transfer of power ” .
– Party hardliner –
In a highly symbolic scene shortly after his resignation , a man took down a portrait of Mugabe from a wall inside the building where MPs had assembled for the extraordinary session to impeach the defiant president.
Another person replaced it with an image of Mnangagwa .
The ruling ZANU- PF party said Mnangagwa could swiftly be named interim president as the country charts a way through the turbulence .
“ He will be the one who will be sworn in to be (interim ) president for 90 days , ” said party spokesman Simon Khaya Moyo .
Mnangagwa is a long - time party loyalist who has close ties with the military , with critics describing him as a ruthless hardliner responsible for years of state- sponsored violence .
Mugabe’ s resignation capped a week in which the military seized control and tens of thousands of Zimbabweans took to the streets in an unprecedented show of dissent against Mugabe.
– ‘He deserves to rest ’ –
“ I am so happy that Mugabe is gone, 37 years under dictatorship is not a joke . I am hoping for a new Zimbabwe ruled by the people ,” Tinashe Chakanetsa, 18, told AFP.
As the news began to sink in late Tuesday, crowds gathered brandishing national flags with many among them praising army chief General Constantino Chiwenga who led the military ’ s power -grab .
Mugabe had ruled Zimbabwe almost unopposed since independence in 1980 — but his efforts to position his 52- year -old wife Grace as his successor prompted intervention from the military that underpinned his regime.
The monolithic grip of Mugabe — who was the world ’s oldest head of state — was shattered last week when armoured military vehicles took to the streets , blockaded parliament and soldiers placed him under house arrest.
Mugabe’ s fate, and that of his wife , remain unknown , but ZANU- PF has said he deserved to be treated with respect after leading the country for nearly four decades .
“ He deserves to rest and I believe every Zimbabwean agrees with this, ” said Moyo .
“ But I think he had overstayed the hospitality of the people of Zimbabwe.”
– A new path –
Last week ’s military takeover had all the hallmarks of a coup , but the generals stopped short of forcing Mugabe out .
As the crisis grew, the ZANU- PF party , an instrument of Mugabe’ s brutal reign , removed him as party leader and began parliamentary proceedings to have him impeached .
“ When he saw the turnout ( of lawmakers) , he probably realised he ’d better jump before he was pushed ,” said Derek Matyszak, an analyst at the Pretoria-based Institute for Security Studies.
British Prime Minister Theresa May said the resignation gave Zimbabwe “ an opportunity to forge a new path free of the oppression that characterised ( Mugabe’s ) rule ” .
And the European Union’s diplomatic chief Federica Mogherini called for a solution that “ respects the aspirations of the people of Zimbabwe for a more prosperous and democratic future” .
The US State Department called it “ a historic moment for the people of Zimbabwe… to put an end to Zimbabwe’ s isolation” saying the country ’s future should be decided by the people .
Most Zimbabweans have only known life under Mugabe, whose time in power was defined by violent suppression , economic collapse and international isolation .

Senate gives Osinbajo 3 conditions to settle rift with National Assembly
www.naij.com Jul 15, 2017 8:38 AM
- Senate wants Acting President Osinbajo to remove Ibrahim Magu as acting EFCC chairman
- It also wants two others things which sources say are easier for the Presidency to do than remove Magu
- The presidency has reportedly begun moves to achieve the easier two of the three conditions
For the disagreement between the executive and legislative arms of government to end, the National Assembly has revealed three things the Presidency must do.
According to The Nation, fresh efforts to end the rift between the two sides which is threatening to cause a shutdown of government has led to a list of what Acting President Yemi Osinbajo must do for peace to reign.
1. Magu’s removal
First on the list is the removal of Ibrahim Magu, the acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
2. Withdrawal of ‘no-going back on Magu’ statement
This must be accompanied by withdrawal of a statement credited to Osinbajo through Kaduna state governor Nasir el-Rufai that there is no going back on Magu’s nomination.
3. Presidential compliance
The Senate also wants the Presidency to always accept the resolutions, decisions and even summons by the legislature. Among these is that the Presidency should force Power, Works and Housing Minister Babatunde Raji Fashola to withdraw a statement that the lawmakers say attacks the integrity of the National Assembly.
The Nation reports that the conditions were given to a mediator by the leadership of the Senate.
It quoted a top source as saying that the conditions were the main points of talks between Osinbajo and Saraki last week.
The source said: “We are getting closer to a win-win situation between the two arms. In fact, when the mediator met with Saraki, he said he had “met with Osinbajo and he nurses no personal grudges at all.
“He also said what the senators wanted was that the Senate be respected in accordance with its constitutional mandate by complying with its resolutions, decisions and summons.”
The source said: “As for compliance with the resolutions or decisions or summons of the National Assembly, the Presidency gave a commitment to the Senate leadership to give due regards to the legislature.
“You know the Acting President is a lawyer and he believes in the principle of separation of powers.
“On Magu, the Acting President insisted that only his boss, President Muhammadu Buhari can determine the fate of the Acting chairman of EFCC.
“He said the Senate would have to wait for the return of the President.”
“Regarding a statement credited to el-Rufai, the mediation has revealed that the governor ran his own errand because nothing warranted the comments in the mandate given to him to represent the Acting President. Neither the Presidency nor Osinbajo can be held liable for el-Rufai’s comments.”
Meanwhile, NAIJ.com reported earlier that details have started to emerge on Acting President Osinbajo’s meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari in London with focus being on the ministers.
The acting president had jetted out to London on Tuesday, July 11 to meet with the president and according to The Nation, the focus was on national development especially as it affects the cabinet.
According to a presidency source who spoke on the condition of anonymity, the whole cabinet cannot be dissolved “because the nation cannot afford such a luxury now”.
However, some ministers may be reshuffled.

Fayose threatens to release 11 damaging pictures on Buhari’s health
nigeriadailynews.com Jul 13, 2017 7:32 AM
Olusola Fabiyi, Abuja
The Governor of Ekiti State, Mr. Ayodele Fayose, has threatened to release 11 pictures which he said would proof to Nigerians that President Muhammadu Buhari’s health had deteriorated.
Fayose said there was no iota of truth in the claim by Acting President Yemi Osinbajo that the President was fast recuperating in London.
The governor, who spoke with journalists in Abuja on Wednesday, insisted that the President should resign and attend to his failing health.
“If care is not taking, I will release pictures and this will create serious problems for the country. The offices of the governors and the president are that which require work. If care is not taken, I will release about 11 pictures (on his bad health”), the governor said,
Fayose, who is the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party Governors’ Forum, however, said he was not praying for the President to die.
He challenged Osinbajo to show to Nigerians audio or still pictures taken with the President in London when he met him on Tuesday night.
The governor insisted that without the acting President showing either of these, Nigerians should not take the message by Osinbajo as the truth.
He called on the acting President to tell Nigerians what he saw when he visited Buhari.
He said, “I’m not going to prove that to Nigerians. It is him (Osinbajo) who said he saw the President that needs to prove to Nigerians.
“I have made the allegations and I have said it expressly that we are in the age of technology. So, we have an Acting President of a nation that has visited his boss that cannot show evidence of the meeting.
“The pictures they are posting on social media are pictures taken long time ago. You recall that I said this again at Transcorp Hilton in 2015. We are talking about the President of 170 million people.
“The Acting President visiting the President that has left this country for about 60 days or more cannot show evidence of the meeting. It shows the President is in a critical condition.
“I wasn’t saying that we don’t want him to return, but the claim of the acting President is not true. In this age and time when we have the social media, we have everything to show that the government cannot be run by propaganda.
“The fact is, the President is sick, incapacitated and he’s not in good condition. The acting President should show us pictures, short video of his meeting with the President . It is not in the interest of the country that the country will be run in deceit and propaganda.
“The visit (of Osinbajo) was diversionary and an attempt to divert the attention of the country. Both the President and his vice do not have what it takes to run the country.
“As far as it is good to protect the interest of his boss, he should consider the interest of the people. We are no longer credit worthy. We cannot wait for a President that is incapacitated.”

‘Buhari should resign’
editor.guardian.ng Jun 26, 2017 10:26 AM
President Muhammadu Buhari
A group, the Nigerian Youth Advocate for Justice has given President Muhammadu Buhari an eight-week ultimatum to either resign or form an interim government.A statement by the group’s Chairman, Seriki Olorunwa said they would lead seven million youths in 22 states to effect his removal from office.
According to them, the president’s health challenge has made it impossible for him to preside over the affairs of the country.“We urge the Senate, House of Representatives, state house of assemblies and parastatals to persuade Mr. President to resign and hand over to an interim president in the interest of Nigerians,” the statement said.
While pledging not to shed any blood, the group, however said it was ready to fight than to live as slaves, saying: “We are speaking with one voice for the masses because we want the progress of the people.”
They lamented that most Nigerians have been subjected to humiliation because of the self-serving activities of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), adding that killing, kidnapping and robbery have become the order of the day in the present-day Nigeria. The youths condemned the insecurity in the country even in the midst of poverty and unpaid salaries.

Witnesses Reveal How House on the Rock Fire Began... See Details
tori.ng Jun 26, 2017 9:31 AM
The fire that gutted the N3billion edifice belonging to the House on the Rock Church, has been revealed too have started on the top floor.
House on the Rock Church on fire in Abuja
The fire which gutted House on the Rock Church in Abuja on Sunday began on the top floor of the N3 billion edifice, according to a witness.
The church building, which is known as `Citadel and Towers’ with a sitting capacity of 10, 000 , went up in flames at about 2pm as the rain was falling.
The witness who identified herself simply as Esther said the fire began after the Sunday service had closed. She said she was about to leave the Church premises when she noticed fire on the top floor of the building.
According to her, the plastic materials on the top floor of the building burned quickly, and spread to the second floor and onto the pulpit. Half of the building located on Airport Road was destroyed before the firemen were able to tame the fire.
Rev. Kennedy Asigime, a cleric in the church, told NAN that there were no casualties as members of the church had gone home at the time of the event.
“The most unfortunate thing is the fact that we have a fire service that is not properly equipped to help in such situations.
“We have no idea what caused the fire, whether it is an electrical fault or not, nobody knows for now.
“This whole building cost about N3 billion and a very substantial part of the building has been totally destroyed.
“We cannot be sure of what is left standing now, we need to do an integrity test to know if the whole building is going to be knocked down,’’ Asigime said.
He, however, said that the timely response of the Fire Service was commendable but the response with substance to deal with the situation “is below zero.’’
He said the fire fighters were not well equipped to extinguish the fire as they lacked the required liquid and came with “the same ladder used by Electric Distribution Companies.’’
“They were just here because they want to put it on record that they responded to the call; but they got here and said they did not have water. Until trucks from the private sector started coming, trucks from Julius Berger and NNPC, may God help us in this country,’’ he added.
In his response, the Head of FCT Fire Service, Garki Station, Mr Stanley Ujobo, said the cause of the fire could not be ascertained yet.
“We cannot really ascertain the cause of the fire for now until we are done with dumping, which is pouring enough water to prevent resurgence.
“A lot of combustible and very highly inflammable materials were used in partitioning the building.
“Before you enter such a burning building, you have to take caution to avert loss of life; that was the reason we were unable to start fighting the fire on arrival,’’ he said.
According to Ujobo, the building did not have fire hydrant and that the alarm system was not working.
Ujobo said that the fire fighters were professionals trained to fight fire and would not rush into a building without proper strategy.
Ujobo advised Nigerians intending to build such big structures to consult the fire service for professional guidance on what type of materials to use.
Motorists and some members of the church who witnessed the fire incident from a distance were seen worshipping and singing praises to God for averting a bigger calamity.
The fire service deployed no fewer than eight trucks.
There were other private fire trucks that responded, before the fire was extinguished at 5.30 p.m.
House on the Rock was founded in December 1994 by Pastor Paul A. Adefarasin in Lagos, Nigeria.
The ministry was established to be a vanguard 21st century Church with a vision of empowering believers for the fulfilment of their God-ordained destinies.
Since its’ inception the Church has grown far beyond the borders of Lagos, with over 40 daughter Churches and missions in Nigeria and across the globe.
The Abuja Church popularly called “The Refuge” by church members was formed in 1999 as a springboard for strategic ministry in the northern region of Nigeria and beyond.
