IRU-VICTORIA ISLAND LCDA FLAGS OFF E-BIRTH REGISTRATION INITIATIVE

The Lagos State Government has taken another bold step toward securing the future of every child through digital identity inclusion.

The Executive Chairman of Iru-Victoria Island LCDA, Hon. Aminat Oluwakemi Alabi (AOA), has officially launched the E-Birth Electronic Birth Registration Initiative—a programme designed to register and document children aged 0–12 months and assign them a National Identity Number (NIN) from birth.

The flag-off ceremony, held at the Iru-Victoria Island Council Secretariat Primary Health Centre, witnessed the presence of key stakeholders, including the Medical Officer of Health, Mrs. Simiat Oladipo, who joined the Chairman in demonstrating the Council’s readiness to implement this innovative system.

This initiative is in line with the Lagos State Government’s drive to deploy technology for improved governance, enhanced service delivery, and long-term development planning. By transitioning from manual to digital registration, the system will significantly:

Improve data accuracy and reliability

Eliminate double registration

Provide real-time records and verifiable statistics

Strengthen policy-making and resource allocation

Promote equitable growth across communities within the LCDA

The introduction of the E-Birth Registration system is especially critical given Nigeria’s historically low birth registration rates. With this digitalized process, parents can now access a faster, simpler, and more secure method of documenting their children.
